Just FYI, if you blow on your wax seals right before use put them in the hot wax, they will come out of the wax a lot easier. And by 'blow' I mean, huff, like when you're cleaning glasses. That puts hot, moist air on the seal and keeps it from sticking. Oh, and one more tip, if you shine the light from your cellphone on the shimmering ink writing, you can usually see the shimmer really well.
Aw man I really miss your videos! Pls come back 🥺 your style is just so soothing to watch. Really love your commentary. This video was so fun. Blessings to you and yours!
Wax seals look so fun. I've been watching several videos. I tried to look for none bees wax but I couldn't find any. Sometimes you have to miss out on some fun trying to live by vegan standards. Its fun to watch others use it.
Perhaps try looking into the hot glue gun stick versions! I believe many are vegan (you can also search out pellets that are vegan, so it would be a mix of resin and other ingredients), so you’ll get the same effect, only you just use a hot glue gun to melt everything. But vegan versions are out there.
OMG, that music nib!!! I am in the process of cleaning out and reorganizing my fountain pens, correspondence things in my "Jane Austen" desk. This was a FUN break! :-)
In regard to Diamine ink, I’ve noticed that my fountain pen inks often don’t play well with my dip pens because they have a lower viscosity than india ink so that they flow smoothly through a fountain pen. Noodler’s X-Feather is the only fountain pen ink that I own that plays well with my dip pen nibs. For this reason, I use some of my fountain pens like dip pens to test the fountain pen inks without filling the pen. In fact, I love using my Pilot Penmanship for this purpose because it is shaped like a dip pen and i can swap nibs with my Metropolitan. I also have three vintage fountain pens with 14k flex nibs that I loathe to fill because of their age, but they make perfect dip pens for my fountain pen inks and because of the feed designs I can write longer before I have to dip them again. Just a quick tip in case you have a few unused fountain pens that you can use specifically to test your fountain pen inks! Also, I absolutely love watching your videos! I get so many ideas for my art and journaling supplies! Please keep them coming!
Thank you for the suggestions! I’ve not thought to use my fountain pens as dip pens, but now I’ll give it a try. And I never paid attention to which inks perform better with dip pens, so I will definitely take notes in the future. Thank you taking the time to comment!
This was so much fun!!! I just got some wax and a seal ... I need to get a spoon and start trying it out... a local friend gave me a little set and I ordered a tiny paw print seal. I can't wait to try it!!! Also, seeing the cool nibs you tried out was amazing!!!
Hi, I'm not sure if the lacquer on the nibs you used was removed or not. The lacquer is on all new nibs to prevent the nib from rusting in storage. The best way to remove the lacquer is to use your own saliva, this is something I learned from PaScribe aka. Paul Antonio who is a well know calligrapher. He has a youtube channel that is very informative for learning how to use dip pens properly. I hope this little tidbit helps somewhat :)
Hello! New subscriber here, did you prep the nibs before using them? I am new to dip pens and I got a bunch just like you, but watching videos I learned that I have to prep them because they come with some sort of oil in them.
Such a great video. I experienced the same with my shimmery inks. Another reason for me to prefer broad nibs. Sometimes the nibs have some invisible coating that needs to be washed off before they write properly. Maybe just washing them in a bit of soapy water helps.
That crinkly paper and the scratchy nib sound 🤩

It helps to cool the seal. I use a cup of ice. This works better especially if the weather is warm.

@@GirlandQuill Wow, thank you! I'll search more into this!
@@GirlandQuill Thanks to you, I found Letters Seals, they make faux, vegan waxes! Oh boy, did I just get myself into another hobby? Lol.

Yay to your Jane Austen desk! :) The music nib is such a favorite.

It’s so fun! I hope you enjoy using it, the paw print seal sounds perfect.
I was holding my breath, hoping that your wax sealed letter for your friend turned out OK! 💕
Loved this, please do some more, such fun.
For the small wax seals, 2-3 pieces is plenty
Thank you! It was so much easier to judge when I use the wax sticks, lol.

I didn’t! But now I know to prep them. Must research how to maintain nice nibs…
i cant wait to try wax seal with my penpall letters!
The feedback is so goood
the music nib is awesome!
Thank you so much! The seals just add that extra something to letters. :)

Thank you for the tip! Will definitely give them a rinse.
