Know Your Fabric: Here is a collection of Pochampally and Telia Rumal Ikat cotton sarees in vivid geometric patterns to update your summer collection. Telia Rumal, which dates back to the 19th century, is a method of oil treatment on yarn, originating from Chirala, in coastal Andhra Pradesh. Telia means ‘oil’, while ‘rumal’ translates to ‘facial wipe’ or ‘kerchief’. This cloth was used by fishermen and cowherds as lungis, loincloth, and turbans as the oil in the cloth did not let water seep through. Nowadays, Telia Rumal is used as sarees and dupattas, much like the Pochampally ikat, which is made in Bhoodan Pochampally in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district, Telangana.
