Kevin Jodrey / Derek Gilman: Cannabis Preservation, Production & Triploid Genetics / Ganjier

- In between takes of shooting new Ganjier Cannabis Program (Ganjier.com) content, Ganjier Co-Founder and Instructor Kevin Jodrey sat down with Ganjier Director Derek Gilman at the spectacular Ganjier Campus in the Humboldt Highlands, to discuss Kevin's latest projects and forays into cannabis genetics and the nexus of cannabis science and culture.
Specifically, they explore triploid cannabis genetics - a seed-free approach to cultivation, mitigating the threat of cross-pollination for breeders, and following a route already in use by grape, watermelon, banana, and hops growers - and the possibilities over the horizon for cannabis preservation and production, especially in the hash sector.

Cool dude. Some years ago I made a donation of landraces and some of my proprietary hybrids being a total 24 different strains and Kevin gave me his blessing as being a contributer to his Skunk Project. Since then I've continued personal cannabis breeding projects of my own needs which resulted of being inspired by Kevin Jodrey.
I live in the eastern caribbean and i have a special equatorial sativa lanrace
Thats awesome, and the love was shown back too. Furthering Cannabis the love of it, and the medicine to keep spreading
"if you take an eel and a human"... Wtf? 😂
I could listen to Kevin all day. He loves what he does and it shows
Passion 💯🇺🇲❣️
I have no issue with Kevin. I have a big issue with big AG getting involved!! Very seldom does science actually help any farmers!!! Let's keep this thing with the people for the people we don't need this selective breeding based off intuition is all we need !!!
At this point we all have a bigger problem than the useless ATF. The rest of the alphabet is involved.
Hold and save good genetically.
😂 🤡
Ehh, the grassroots, homegrown scene will never disappear so whatever in my opinion
@@MarvinMonroe agreed
Except in my experience triploids are infertile.. seedless and infertile. Is that trait regressed in cannabis? It may have that wow factor now, however when someone breeds a cultivar that's better, the triploids lineage is come as far as it can come right?
Dig your channel always dropping knowledge and happiness fully delivers! Have a great season and session cheers!😎💯🤙🏽
Kevin and Derek ooz passion for the plant ❤
What in the world did he just say lol 😂
Much love from Ukraine guys! Love to soak up information on this channel ) 😁
Glory to Ukraine
Is has weed been decriminalised in Ukraine?
@@tomflynn8007 nope, weed is illegal in Ukraine.
Hopefully the probibition will fall in time! Our soldiers need weed for PTSD. 😕
Great talk and surely needed. Thank you all for it, what about tetraploids Vs triploids? Same quality and can be further breeded? Kind regards to all, ☮️❤️
The process of producing a homogeneous desirable smoke has been the a goal of the tobacco industry in America for centuries.
The modern method involves using blending portions of the crop from selected, carefully managed farms.
They then use set amounts of each of the last THREE years harvest.
They process and package it in a repeatable way using precise, proven curing, extraction and enhancing methods.
The result is, your Marlboro Red always tastes exactly like a Marlboro Red and has provides the exact experience. A smoker know that ANY deviation can drastically ruin the experience. Even a tiny hole in the paper or a drop of water.
This wild west of a million different brands/strains may be eventually replaced by modern industrial processing and corporate branding. I think consumers would embrace having fewer but more consistently available, reliably identical option.
Okay i need to meet this dude and talk with him for a while. Im betting he can find me my lost chemovar of afghani skunk. What are the odds if i go to wonderland nurseries of chatting with this master yoda mfkr? Ill fly my ass from cleveland there in a heartbeat. Its absolutely my lifes mission and would improve many lives. If need be ill pay for us to go to the kush valley and start hunting....with armed guards of course. Lol any suggestions?
I like triploid apples. Higher brix levels and bigger apples. I like heirlooms. Grown again and again by people because good cultivar. The canna community needs to start labeling certain cultivars as heirloom.
Here to listen
So downy weed basically😂
When Kevin jodry talks I listen 💯💯
Thank you for this information, maybe I am missing something but I have a question ❓❓ it seems like triploids have a tendency to express intersex traits can anyone explain why?
I dont have any scientific reasoning, but I believe it probably is due to inbreeding just as some fem seeds have. Humboldt seed company recalled their triploids due to this. I think even if you have no problems, the phenotypic expressions from diff growers with different settings and humidity will expose the tendency to herm if the breeder did not do enough stress testing, or the line thats used is unstable. Unstable genetics should not be bred or you have premi seeds in most of your buds
Great talk
Kev full of gold bars
Can't wait to grow this year outdoor. Great content🔥💨
Don’t ever use neem oil it will
Make your plants taste like shit. Ruined one of my crops 2 years ago.
Love the passion. My old friend just gave me a ammo can of seeds he saved from the best herb he said he ever had in the 80s-90s. If they are viable could be something amaizing.
sounds exiting, good luck, find that old skunk
If you
Pull anything good out of the stock.I would be interested.
Use giberillic acid to increase chance of germinating and hydrogen peroxide too if you want
Kevin Jodrey is your favorite grower's favorite grower.
Top ten educator, i would say top five on my personal list. "you the man kev" 👨🌾😎
Only if Kyle Kushman says so.
Caleb for CSI made Kevin look like an amateur when it came to genitics and cannabis history.

@@KayneRay-ct3bh Although I agree, I think they bother have mature personalities and have positive impacts in the space. Kevin is inspired by those guys which shows his ability to learn
I plant and grow and spread pollen and gather seeds I plant and grow and spread pollen and gather seeds. I let nature worry about the rest
I have no idea if it was this channel... I was watching a gentleman claim that you can use any seed, leaving them to germinate in water for a few days in the dark... And then plant them.... Then I found out the channel was referring to cannabis seeds.... I thought he was talking about all types of flower seeds..... I didn't know he was talking about cannabis....
Commercial crop is wht we don't need !!! This isn't a commercial industry!! All your doin is helping these big bomey big interests own all this IP !! Smh this thinking is exactly why almost all of the big names in small family farms have been pushed out !!!
There will always be commercial just like there'll always be craft, its sad that so many small farmers are getting chewed up by the machine but thats the way things go no matter what market you're in
@@ottoflouer1750true. There will always be commercial presence. Just find your niche and work it to the fullest.
The days of the hippy grower are coming to an end. If not already there
normal seeds lol. getting harder to come by, or variety anyway
Did Kevin close his shop in Humboldt?
No. Wonderland became the one log cookies research and development center.
Ok. Thank you Kevin will CHECK it out. Looking for some interesting clones. Not happy with the local stores. Calaveras county, Westpoint, ca.
Love listening and learning from these guys happy st patty’s day everyone
KJ would be on the American weed Mount Rushmore.
Ha.. 13:22 😂❤ Subirrigation and hugelkultur beds is the new jam! 😎🙏 I am down to penny a gram, and using melted snow and rain barrels (legal my state amd if you ask me, totally should be allowed in all states but they are even trying to control rain barreling in a lot of cities 😐)
I love that the same people who are raping and pillaging our Earth. Have the fucking AUDACITY to tell us what we can and can't do with the Earth we were ALL granted. And then on top of that they 'own' all the land and try and sell it back to us. What a fucking joke.
DERTY,Cheerzz from the lair
Howdy fellas, can you tell me where I can find Swani's flower in Eureka?
His product is in a select few dispensaries - closest to you might be Fort Bragg - and is also running a wine-club style memebership program. Best to reach out for details swamiselect.com/dispensaries/
I grew a plant or two 15 years ago super sweet airy giant calyx with giant trichomes didn't need any type of magnification to see them kicking myself in the ass to this day for losing the seed. Would also get 2 harvest a year off each plant
I was thinking about Derek and his podcasts few hours ago and now he uploads this! Greetings from Estonia, Europe! Blaze it!
thanks Kev and ganjier .... planting one mind seed at a time...cheers
CHEERS BONGS UP 💨💨💨💨💨💨
Humboldt
Feeling the soil is better than drip irrigation. But it works when you need a few days off of watering.
Appreciate yall cats! Knowledge dropping,,key, key,! And saving genetics,,can you dig it! Yessir
Popped 7 seeds in January and 5 were triploid, but were all male.
Eh, perfect timing
I was messin with some polyploid a couple years back, it was some kinda silver haze cross, huge outdoor yields and massive plants, still got the impossible seeds
you are what you eat and you are what you smoke. agribusiness is 100% destructive. i think it is genetically modified organism, like he Kevin said, "it is just the beginning." Kevin have any cuttings available? where can we get your stuff?
Ironically, we talked about it live an hour before this episode came out, ha... the red lebanese puck, from crickets and cicada, or direct from dagga or kev himself, iykyk. Redlebpuck is well known now, because of Kev. small world, heh
Very cool hearing Kevin talk about Triploids. After watching this I’m more likely to seek out and grow some one day.
I just harvested one plant each from Exotic Genetix Gary Poppins Linup. I have never had so much gas in jars it’s an amazing Linup . Dripping Ain’t Easy is like sticking your nose over a can of gasoline. ⛽️
Mike from Exotic Genetix, that also we ironically chat about a few hours ago.. cubangrower and Mike made the cut cookiesandcream, big time washer in the solventless game... won many cups, a staple, and he has a great track record like Kev and Nat from humboldt seed (blueberry muffin is a staple for 10 to 100 acre outdoor fields now in rec in West Michigan...many hundred of acres)
Interesting 👌
Kevin, would love to know the status of the skunk project!? Love to have those old putrid genetics back!
Kevin rocks.....
This will be big one day
Dope interview, ty
Here's my question, what happens if you spray a female triploid with silver? Can you force it to make pollen and use that pollen on different plants to make different triploids?
Nice post
Had to come find the rest of this
🤘
Copycat genetics has been doing this already
I have a blue dream plant that aphids do not like, practically clean, but gorilla glue and zskittles were infested right next to it.
Actually, the polyploid research started in the '70s and we soaked summer aster seeds to derive the colchicine.
Trying a Tripliod this year no doubt. Prob the OG humbolt seed co.
MORE KEVIN JODREY. PLEASEEE
Did we bring back the original acrid Skunk Kevin was talking about?
that is what i want
@@truthonly7699 Kevin was working on a strain called "The Hogg" that is supposedly from Mel Franks original Skunk #1 (that 80's Skunk you don't see anymore).
I sent KJ some of my Botswana Motokwane landrace seeds those were producing putrid skunk and burnt rubber aromas.
@@supereight9221 Or Buynt Rubbah as Kevin would say 🤣
I grow heirloom triploid apples. It's not that triploid can't be pollinated but it takes 2 different males of the right cultivar.
Can you point me to a video where jodrey teaches tip tricks and techniques on growing
