As an English woman nearly 41 in 2002 I found the anticon sampler in a second hand CD store in Nottingham and thanked heaven for finally giving me exactly what I wanted ha ha. Relistening to all the artists" early albums again genius...... joy :)
that's dope... Real Hip-Hop is a secret anyways🤫 🔒🗝✌🏼
Gotta dig to find treasures
Wait so you're about ~60 years old now? Uh oh.. times flyin.
That's interesting, like just dug deep in Nottingham, that's an awesome story did you use to scratch? Do you still have it?
@@jred23pyro don't blink. Life is fast
for me this is probably the most underrated rap album of all time
Absolutely!
agreed
Scorpion Circles?????
YESSSSSSSSS! Memphis Reigns and Genelec put out a dope piece of art with that one. Same with Textual Harassment (Son of Ran and Memphis Reigns).
for me top 5 hip hop albums of all time... it ages amazingly.
"I consider myself blessed when I think
Floating up above the majority makes others look like they sink
Hating, you give up nothing
Love, you give it up all
So I smirk at all of y'all
While you await my downfall"
This has no right to be this good
😢🎉 1:07
Wow. 22 years later and its still a banger!!!! Anticon is the best underground label ever!!!
Them and Definitive Jux
@@Wolviepayne Hell yeah. Aesop Rocks Fast Cars, Danger, Fire, & Knives is one of my fav albums on DJ records.
Sole KILLED every verse on this
everyone on anticon has killed every verse they did. and i always loved slug with anticon. if anticon and rhymesayers had ever merged. eyedea thrived on rhyme but i feel like he fit in better with anticon. i miss old shit like this. prime time for labels like rhymesayers, anticon, def jux, eastern conference
@@asageorge6x3 I agree, Slug was a good foil for their tendency toward pretentiousness. But he’s a lone wolf , probably didn’t care enough to serve that purpose. The contrast between him and Dose was what blew my mind when I first heard this. Its like a Kraken and a Dragon existing in the same arena lol
Heavy Ceiling is one of my favorite songs ever. This entire album is timeless ❤
NYC &
It's 2020 and I just discovered these guys while looking for DJ Shadow mixes on Discogs. Absolute banger of an album, every track is tight with lyrics and beats. This is the type of stuff I wanted in college while I was walking around campus or sitting in the library. RIP Alias, I'm shopping for a bunch of Anticon releases now..
It's never too late to join the party, come on in dude.
🤘😆🤘
happy that you found it
Dude they just re-released this album on vinyl 🎉
Other side of the looking glass and Less is Orchestra are musts
😂
This album helped me understand who I was in highschool. I'd do just about anything for an Anticon reunion.
Same here!! ✌✌
same here fam
I was driving to my first year of college back in 2000 and I thought I had my life and hip-hop knowledge locked down. I was listening to lots of stuff from MOBB DEEP, BIGGIE, J5, east coast avengers and PUTS... all sorts of shit. I put in ANTICON music for the advancement of hip hop in the CD player. I had just picked it up per my friends recommendation..... and my life changed more and more with each song I listened to. By the time I got to the dorms.... I had no idea who I was. Everything I thought about hip-hop and how it defined who I was changed in 2 hours hahaha.
I think deep puddle showed me that there was so much more out there. Every guy in the group helped with get through the tough shit I was dealing with. Slug's songs about love later that year helped me get the strength I needed to understand that no girl should ever have that much control over you....
Same .
Can I say I went to the 10 year aka 3rd year. Dose hit me in the face with a white label copy on June. Thanks adam
The whole album is great, but The Candle is an absolutely essential hip hop song.
Well said! Use to chill with alot of these boyz :)
Matthew Phillips You ever kick it with Slug?
everytime track 2 hits... man, its a great transition
Reese Imel yes actual I have and dj abilities, sole and dose one
word. were you out in SF? man I went to so many fucking shows back in the day... the days man the days
Just heard the news, it’s upsetting but I’m happy that I could experience one of the greatest albums of all time. RIP Alias

Why is this album still such a banger? Every song is fire.
This album turned hip hop on its head and created a whole new category. A melding of such talent, style and crazy vocab. Poetry at its finest.
Such depth. Greatest collaboration ever. This album is in my top 3.

To Ben Frost's probably, too
Tingles down my spine, every time with the opening.
this is a great album. i cant stand nowadays rap, and enjoy albums of hip hop of 90s rarely. this though, is exceptional. very unique, very music.
Six minutes into this deep puddle of beauty, I think, "This would be amazing music to go insane to."
+Tony Longshanks LeTigre oh....was it ever.

What is the meaning life???
This kind of hip hop comes from the heart of a noble and earnest search for wisdom, it can't be touched by the decadence of the modern age, it's so powerful and underrated, love to the artists
Best album ever
I keep coming back to this album
I grew up on this album, Now, I am me through correct words. Thank you
RIP ALIAS
So glad to have had this album in my life. Great to hear again - been too long.
this and saturday morning soundtrack man two best rap albums mannnnnnnn
The ominous voices backing Sole's verse on Where The Wild Things Are
This album is so strange and good
Discovered this 20 years after it was made and getting my brains blown.
He laid down in the tall grass and prepared to wait patiently, soon the sounds of distant sweet music came to his ears, he looked up in the direction from which they came and saw a small object descending from above, at first it looked like a mere speck but as it came down the music became plainer and sweeter
Dude, thought vs action is so good, the beat is awesome, the ominous singing voices, that part where she tells that story of angelic visitors, their heavily complex language, it's so heady and heavy
A classic if there ever was one
Timeless classic
This is sooooo wicked. How did I just find this?
Because you looked at some real music. not the shit that we're spoonfed by popular media
+AirFlow Well, not exactly, I live for music like this. I'm just surprised not to have found this earlier than I have.

DOSEONE IS THE SECOND BEST MC (for me) HIS VOICE AND LYRICS ARE SO FUCKING AWEOSOME
Rumor has it he beat Eminem at Skribblejam
✥Theme
wow.. listening the lyrics is like watching myself in the mirror, truly impacting and light-bringing album. I usually don't understand spoken English but now is like i am listening the story of my life, very catchy..
i taugt myself to survive without my feet on the ground, i never felt so alive as when i drown ...
cant stop listening. 3 days straight. Unreal
classic . never gets old for me
Soundtrack of my adolescence.. Still one of my favourites
Absolutely life changing album.

Well put together
What is it, 20 years since this came out? Damn I feel old.
I know right? I remember getting this LP on vinyl shortly after it dropped. I wore it out before unfortunately losing it many moves ago.
thought vs action is such a dope song and great concept too
'The taste of rain - why kneel' is an excerpt from the Dharma Bums by Jack Kerouac.
The next line: 'Time for hot coffee and a cigarette boys! I said to my imaginary bhikku's'.
love this album
A Masterpiece...
Such an amazing collab
Amazingly crafted album
This was always a go to album spinning on wesu
What did I just discover.. :O
Was just listening to Memphis Reigns this past week because of a UA-cam comment and I just saved a random playlist that was suggested in one of their songs

This and Music For The Advancement Of Hip Hop AHHHHH when Anticon used to rap lol good fucking days, I still go out and see Sole shows, always a weak crowd
Not enough love for Alias in these comments. RIP to a heavily underrated hip hop legend.
i love this album. i just wish this was better quality.
On my top 3 Hip Hop albums of all time and in my top 10 of all records of all time

classick dope stuff
Walking through the rain and the millennium
Where lazy and convenient is the mother of invention
I must have the guts to mention to that man in that reflection
(What are you looking at?)
my fav song from now on until the break of dawn...
This album frustrates me so much. When I try to pin down what they’re actually talking about on some parts of the album, especially on the more abstract songs I arrive with about 4 different interpretations which each seem equally true and false.
From the delivery and the multiple voices it feels like being in the mind of a schizophrenic, there will be a few bars of absolute incomprehensible chatter and then one of the most beautifully constructed multifariously true lines ever spoken, and then back to rambling.
It may also be about acid, but if I apply one lesson acid has taught me to this album: if you look for some kind of grand meaning, there will be nothing, however that doesn’t make it all worthless. This album somewhat embodies this for me, it feels devoid of structure or meaning yet at the same time if FEELS significant and purposeful. Best to sit back and enjoy, feel it rather than think it through otherwise you’ll probably come up with some schizo greater purpose you think Sole and the boys were putting into it.
Or there really is some crazy 4d narrative I should be following but I’m too stupid to do so, I don’t know…
Damn RIP alias, i kept going back to this CD and the clouddead album early on in high school. Serious classic.
How has the world not heard this yet?! Such a beautiful album crafted with such mastery. The mindless many don't deserve to be blessed with the grace of this masterpiece.
Ken and I are so proud of you TFU
Good job TFU

FIRST BORN EYEDEA SHOULD HAVE BEEN ON THIS!!
Talk Hiphop, speak Anticon.
what version of the album is this? afaik The Taste of Rain never released with the Rainmen track and this version has a totally different version of June 26, 1999: Exist
yeah that got me thinkin too!
These are all fucking insane
What happened to these fools? Especially Dose. I just tried to listen to a track from his last album and I couldnt even get past the 00:20 second mark.Complete SHit!! I miss the good ol' days...........
Everything changes.
Maybe it was for their betterment?
It seems as you grow, you'll lack that ambition to fill our instinctual will to be somewhat pretentious with the best of our abilities, because we always are different ,they arnt those people they used to be.
Doesn't it seem everyone's first album is their greatest?
Maybe it because that instinctual will was when it flourished!
You become content.
I don't assume they've lost their ambition but only fueled differently.

-DoseOne: Still makes music. Has collabed with a few groups. Check out the grps he's affiliated with "13 & God" "Themselves" and "Subtle." Always works with JeL
-Slug: Still rocking with Ant in Atmosphere
-Sole: Dropped a few albums that were dope as fuck. Got into some beef with El-P. Still drops albums
-Alias: Still drops albums. His work, in my opinion, is closest to this sound.
They still do good work.
I didn't know sole got into some beef with el-p? What's up with that?
Light... solstitial , acqui noctial, colur, colur. Easier to hide in the Dark... D, A, B, C, you right, maybe not, condescending indeed, even in the light they still try to blind who? She says no going back, that is where we made things to last the tests of timez. We doom ourselves repeating the same lame BS if we do not know from which places in time and space we have come from, then maybe move forward in the night & day.
for the history books
