- A Christian group called WallBuilders wanted to put this ad in D.C.’s busses. But the D.C. transportation authority said no, citing rules that prohibit ads that attempt to persuade people on matters of opinion.
If you think that sounds like a really vague rule, you’re right. It's why a federal judge finally decided to block enforcement on First Amendment grounds. #freespeech #advertising #washingtondc
"...Matters of opinion..."? What advertisements aren't attempting to influence our opinions?
the ones with the correct opinions of course, those are fine by the government
One question, are transit privately owned, or are they a public utility paid for by the taxpayer? If the former, I don't care what the rule is, the owner can decide what he wants on their advertising space. If it is the latter, then yeah, there should be no censorship outside of existing decency laws.
Yeah its state funded, that's why there should not be any biases in ad selection for dc buses. Private individuals however should have that right
It’s a corporation that’s subsidized by the government not fully private nor fully public.
DC Transportation Authority is obviously a government adjacent authority
I mean, if it blocks all advertising, then it’s not censorship at all, just considerate of people who don’t want to spend all day looking at garbage that tries to sell them something. No different than an ad blocker online
Seems like a serious violation of the first amendment
They should just make the law so that it only blocks Milo yanopolis
Can you talk about the part when Joe said women were raped by in-laws and sisters?
“What’s wrong with this ad?”
It’s shite!
