DNA RESULTS OF AN ITALIAN FAMILY: SON, MOTHER AND FATHER | MyHeritage

- Опубліковано 15 лют 2019
- Hi guys!
Another, but extended, video of my boyfriend's heritage. Luca was born in Italy, in Sicily, as well as his parents.
All three results came up very similar and I think the test is reliable at least in some part.
Some facts: the tests were conducted in different periods (a few months between each other) and it all started with Luca, who currently lives in Sweden, so after all the guys from the American MyHeritage laboratory could not really know that he comes from Italy, since the only information he put on the profile was where he lives right now.
Then his mother, who also lives in Sweden at the moment, did a test and since she was very skeptical about it, she put a false information to not look like Italian at all.
Last but not least the father put his real information, all with the fact that he lives in Italy.
My previous video showed only the result of Luca and there was a big discussion about a heritage of Sicilian people. Of course, this large percentage of Greek DNA (as well as of North Africa) has a historical explanation, but right now I am wondering what do you guys think of the reliability of MyHeritage? Do you think it is accurate?
I'm Greek but I have more Italian than you and you have more Greek than me... what a world...
Greeks and italians are brothers!
Thanos 21 Of course, because of that they had a war?
The Romans prioritized settling Greece with soldiers, to keep them in line. Southern Italy never actually revolted against Roman rule, thus they never suffered the massacres that would create the empty land necessary for the colonies. Besides Rome was really close so control was never an issue. While Greece was quite further away. When Pompey couldn't find Italian volunteers for the war against Ceasar he went to Greece and gathered 60.000 troops(a lot for the time) from Thessaly all Romans. Thus many Greeks and Turks have some Italian DNA(some more than others). There were communities that kept speaking Latin until recently. So Brotherhood and love isn't exactly the reason for the Italian roots.
This is why i believe this kind of companies are in to some propaganda like : You see we are all brothers. İf you consider that myheritage is owned by some jewish people it is so possible for them to make this kind of a propaganda. I suggest you to use other companies like 23andme or like ancestry.com. I believe they are more trustable than myheritage.

Italians are not one country genetically like Spain or Greece. The distance between north and south and the corresponding areas of influence are bigger.
Someone from northern and southern Spain will have the Iberian in common, northern and southern Itally are different countries genetically. In fact, Spain and Portugal are much more closely related than south and north Italy.
Yes absolutely. The is less genetic variety amongst northern europeans as a whole compared to Italy alone. It's pretty crazy.
North Italians are like Austrians and Germans living in the north of Italy
same ass marocco whe riffian maroccans look very white light hair light eyes and central maroccans have white beige skin and south maroccans have more tan and rarely seen black skin
This is so untrue , most people in southern Spain have Arab in them while Catalonians don’t .

@@conanconnatural4868 These commercial DNA tests are one way, there have also been many serious genetic studies that show the genetic relation between Greeks and Italians, especially Peloponnesian and Islander Greeks with them. All these without considering the obvious known history of the huge Greek colonization of Southern Italy and Sicily, to the point of being designated as Magna Graecia, since more Greeks lived there than actual Greece itself. Have a look at this Figure for example, taken from the "Genetics of the peloponnesean populations and the theory of extinction of the medieval peloponnesean Greeks www.nature.com/articles/ejhg201718" study, www.nature.com/articles/ejhg201718/figures/2. Also, have a look at this Figure, taken from the "Genetic origins of the Minoans and Mycenaeans www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5565772/" study, www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5565772/figure/F10/, showing the genetic affinity of modern-day populations with (a) Mycenaeans, (b) Minoans from Hagios Charalambos (Lasithi regional unit), (c) Minoans from Moni Odigitria (Heraklion regional unit), (d) southwestern Bronze Age Anatolians.
Many Greeks are mixed with other nations, especially with Turks and Italians? ; -)
@@conanconnatural4868 The study i shared and in fact many others i can share prove you wrong. You cannot simply suggest or believe such a thing without actual studies or proofs to back it up. The Turks themselves don't even have that much Turkish DNA, let alone Greeks. Modern Turkish people are mainly indigenous Anatolian people mixed with their surrounding people. Greeks couldn't have mixed with the Turks because they would be automatically introduced to the Muslim society. Religion played a big role in dividing the two populations. Italians, just as seen above are to a very large extent of Greek ancestry, especially the southerners.
@@conanconnatural4868
My friend, if you're going to make statements, please make sure they are factual. FYI, there are many Turks who are of greek origin, BUT not the other way around. History will teach you that the Greek men under ottoman rule, were not allowed to marry Turkish women as they then would be considered greek but Turkish men were allowed to take Greek wives as they would be then become Turkish. Recently, DNA testing had been allowed in Turkey and this fact been proven over and over again. (There are countless videos on UA-cam that will attest to this) Besides, why would any Christian man want to marry a Muslim woman, the same Muslims that oppressed and had the Greeks under ottoman rule for approx 400 years, not to mention the fact that it was illegal. Also, the whole of the Mediterranean from Greece to Italy to Egypt to Asia minor (Turkey) to Cyprus etc etc etc was all colonised by Greeks in ancient times before the Seljuk Turks moved into the region.
But I guess you know all this. I guess you've read history books otherwise one would think you are ignorant.
Interesting to see just how much Greek DNA is left over from the original stock of settlers.
On a timeline scale, southern Italy and Sicily has been Greek longer longer than it has been Italian. Greek was spoken as the majority language in southern Italy as recently as the 1300sAD!! From a beginning of about 700bc since the first Greek colonies! That’s 2000 years of Greek DNA that over time became catholic and spoke Italian instead of Greek.
@Russell Richards Are you positive about that? I mean I have generally see different comment of yours that target Greeks as something middle eastern alien to Europe. So I suppose that your origins are from a weak neighboor of ours. I am gonna put it simply. Greek cutlure and South Italian one are almost identical I have been to both and I know. As for the genetic inmpact it is more than clear that both of these people carry a lot of eachothers genes so anything you say about the genetical aspect is rather idiotic and biased. So Greece is actually very close to Italy both culturally and genetically. When I traveled to middle east I felt like alien. They are so much different than us. It's like you compare a horse and an ox and say they are the same.
@Russell Richards maybe because it's just your fantasy and nothing more? If you ha a hatred for the Greeks it's alright. I hate Germans too but please make a favor to yourself and stop spreading propaganda. Greece's culture is Balkan with Anatolian and Italian elements ( vendetta, architecture of islands, local dialects ect.) and nothing more or less. Why do you refuse to admit it? If you want to hate Greeks fine but find realistic arguments and not out of your imagination
@Russell Richards Yeah you always have to say something about Greece but when it comes to Italy you always find excuses. Nothing to say about the non european admix that Italians have?? I've seen you also speaking italian but you pretend to be British.
yeah the Basil they use in southern Italy is properly 'Greek Basil'
@Jon actually it didn't. Greeks don't seem to have any turkic ottoman admixture or at least any significant.

Check Genetic history of Italia in Wikipedia: "while the Northern Italians are closest to the Spaniards and southern French. There is also minor Bronze/Iron Age Middle Eastern and North African admixture in southern Italy and Sardinia, with the highest incidence being in Sicily"
North african and middle eastern admixture has nothing to do with Bronze/Iron age. It is related to islamic expansion in Iberia and Sicilia

You're wrong, Italian ethnicity comes from the mixing up of preroman peoples (latini, etruschi, dauni, messapi etc.). Greek Dna in southern Italy is due to old hellenic colonies. So modern Italian are partially autoctone and partially Greek.
And Sicilian means also Italian, differently from Sardinian, who are mostly a different ethnic group (but even there you can find a lot of Italian dna due to Roman domination and centuries of commerce)

On Sunday, November 6, 2005, an article was published in the newspaper "Apogevmatini tis Kyriakis" entitled "The DNA of the Greeks is clean" and with the subtitle "Research of Stanford Universities in the USA and Pavia in Italy" answers directly to Falmerager. The newspaper writes: "Impressive! The DNA of the Greeks (genetic composition) of the Greeks shows that 99.5% of them are pure Caucasians! (white race)
Which means that the contribution to the genetic composition of Greeks, other population groups than white, is a minimum percentage, less than 0.5%!
The DNA of the Greeks, as shown by a recent international scientific research, has not been influenced by Slavs, -as some claim- even by the Turks, despite 400 years of slavery!
The date of spread of the genetic group J12a1h-M319 in Crete , occurred around 3100 BC. and this date is extremely important. Because it marks the border in the Neolithic Age and the Bronze Age in Crete. A period during which we have great socio-political changes from which the Minoan civilization sprang. It shows that the Cretans are descended directly from their ancestors of the Minoan civilization.
In fact, we present to you a research of the University of Crete in 2012 for the Sfakion Bath which based on findings has human and -therefore based on genetic code very Greek- FINDINGS 120,000 years old!
The allegations that Crete was colonized by Egypt and Libya were completely refuted because the mononucleotide polymorphism (index V13), which is typical in Crete and Mainland Greece, was not found in the slightest. That is, the results showed that there has been no genetic contact between Africa and Crete and mainland Greece for the last 5,000 years.
Research has shown that modern Greeks are descended from the Greeks of the Neolithic era and the oldest Neolithic settlements have been found in Greece. It also appeared that the DNA of the Greeks is very characteristic and is the oldest in Europe.
Scientists pay special attention to the fact that after a long series of research no Mongolian origin was discovered in the DNA of the Greeks, because the Turks occupied Greece for 400 years and everyone expected that there would be some connection in the DNA of the two peoples. And yet the Greek DNA has not been affected in the slightest. On the contrary, the Arabs, who had occupied Spain, put their signature on the Spanish DNA and this can be seen from the research.
All the research that was done from Macedonia to Crete fully documents the genetic continuity and cohesion of the Greek population from antiquity (and from the Neolithic era) until today. Research in Europe has shown something particularly important that not only were the Greeks not genetically influenced by other peoples but instead transmitted their DNA to the rest of Europe.
Essentially this is the modern scientific answer to Falmerager's theories. Another theory that claimed that the ancient Greeks were black… Well, they were never black! There are many who supported and wrote about "Black Athena" (about the Goddess Athena) and many other theories without any scientific basis.
All these… anti-Greek - one might say - positions were demolished , not only by one research, but by seven different major scientific researches, of European and American researchers. Konstantinos Triantaphyllides, Professor of Genetics, Development and Molecular Biology at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki), and his research team participate in international research networks whose ultimate goal is to trace the biological history of European populations.
This research, which concerns the genetic composition of Greeks - and other peoples - was coordinated by Stanford University in the USA, Mr. Triantaphyllides' research team and the University of Pavia in Italy. Another 5 research laboratories from different countries (from Baghdad to Moscow) also participated. The results of this research were published in the American journal "Human Genetics".
We present to you the study of the Universities of Pavia and Stanford which was published as such in the World Scientific Community:
Stanford University of USA-Pavia university of Italy research of greek DNA.
Research Sumary:
1) The DNA of the Greeks is 99.5% WHITE. The research concluded that at a rate of over 99.5, the Greek DNA from the modern samples is the same as the DNA of the inhabitants of the areas based on the oldest samples taken from the same areas.
2) Contrary to the beliefs of many in Turkey and some Slavic nations of the former Yugoslavia, Greek DNA has not been affected, nor altered, by the mixture of Slavic or Turkish DNA, even if the Ottomans ruled much of Greece. for 400 years.
3) From a strong sample of 925 modern Greek DNA, only 0.4% showed non-white DNA.
4) To a large extent, the Greeks of ancient times "transferred" their DNA to other parts of Europe through their conquests. The study showed that, today, Greek DNA is more similar to: a) Italian DNA, b) French DNA, c) Spanish DNA, d) Turkish DNA.
5) In continuation of the above, The DNA of the Italians in modern southern Italy is the closest match to the DNA of their Greek neighbors.
6) Not only is the Greek genetic heritage clearly traceable today, but it is traceable not only among the Greeks, but also to all their neighboring populations of partial Greek origin, with clear genetic similarities.
Based on samples from all over Europe that were accurately dated, the following Genetic Material Antiquity Map was created:

The research goes even further:
Analysis of mitochondrial DNA found that test specimens were divided into 21 groups (haplotypes) and evaluated separately for each time period, in the Middle East and Europe.
Based on mathematical calculations, it is estimated that the DNA of Greek origin is as follows:
8% in recent years (about 3,000 years from today), 20% in the Neolithic period (9,000 to 3000), 44% in the last Upper Paleolithic period (14500-9000), 14.5% on average above Paleolithic era (26,000 to 14,500 years) and 11% in the early Upper Paleolithic era (45,500 -26,000).
According to the above, we have very clear examples of the existence of civilized life in Greece even 50,000 years ago!
And the research concludes as follows:
"Greek DNA has not changed in the last 3,000 years. "Greeks are Greeks themselves according to the modern science of genetics."
A photo a thousand words: Follow pronews.gr on Instagram to "see" the real world!
We will go one step further and ask ourselves: But why no one refers to the -unknown to the general public- Greek populations outside Greece, such as the Greeks of Italy, the pobladores Griegos of Spain, the Hamedians of Syria, the Roman orthodox Lebanese, Pashtuns and Kalas in Asia, Araucanians in Chile, Ainu in Japan and others, who proudly assert their Greek origin? Why was no one assimilated to them? How can they be sure where they come from?
Araucana or Maputse :
Their origin
According to what Lonko Kilapan revealead, who is the Epeutuve of the Araucanian race (in ancient Greek Epeotypis, Epeotagos (Επεοτύπης, Επεοταγός) means official historian, narrator of the epics), in about 600 to 800 BC a colonization expedition started from Greece, specifically from Sparta, and crossing Asia Minor they followed the traditional route towards the Far East, going through the north-east of India and reached the area of Laos - which derives from the Greek word “λαός” (= a people). Later they went down the Peninsula of Malaysia, which is simply called Peninsula on the map of Ptolemy, and from there they passed in the Pacific Ocean, which the Greeks called simply Ocean, as the major Ocean of the Earth.
Using the island complexes of Indonesia, Micronesia, Melanesia and Polynesia as a bridge, they finally reached the Galapagos Islands (Galapagos, a compound word from the Greek words gala (γάλα) = milk, and pagos (πάγος) = rock, which means white rocks) and from there they went over to the American Continent (Peru). All the above island complexes have compound Greek names: “Indo-nesia”, “Micro-nesia”, “Mela-nesia”, “Poly-nesia”…The second word all of them consist of is nesia, meaning in Greek “island complex”, while the first one denotes a main property of these islands or their inhabitants. These names were not given by the navigators of the West but they had already been given.
Seeking an appropriate place for the settlement of the new colony, the Spartans were finally led to a latitude corresponding to that of Greece, between the 36th and 40th parallel of latitude, in the south of the Equator. There they founded the new city - state and called the area Phyli (Φυλή), meaning race in Greek, from which derives the name Chile (Χιλή) the country has today. Ιn fact, the name Fyli existed as a place-name in the Greek territory, too and besides its first meaning (from the verb “fyo”(φύω) = sprout, germinate, grow), it has also the meaning of preservation, the guardhouse (from the verb “fylasso”(φυλάσσω) = keep, preserve).

I have been telling people that north africans are white today, because they are heavily mixed with non african DNA, especially on the maternal side. Depending on the region, the maternal DNA of north africans is between 90% and 70% non african. It's their paternal DNA, E1B1B that is majority african. Even then, about 40% to 20% of their paternal lineage, again, depending on the region, is also non african.
It's true, just like alot of populations are no longer genetically the original populations, the Romans living in Rome, are not the Romans of the Empire, the Greeks living in modern Greece today, are not the hellenic Greeks, the Germans living in Germany have a bunch of Baltic and non-germanic admixture, although they still carry their German names, the Jews occupying Israel are a bunch of mutted up Europeans that call themselves Israelites, and stole land from the Palestinians, just to name a few

Quite a high percentage of Greek genetic markers. Aside from that, seems like a very typical and expected result for a Southern Italian (I’m guessing from your results, because I don’t actually know where in Italy you’re originally from).
Southern Italy was “Magna Grecia”, a Greek settlement before it was Roman. Sicily and the Southern “boot” were a protectorate of Spain for a few hundred years (Iberian markers). Carthaginians from Semitic Punic speaking Phoenician stock (Levantine markers) and indigenous North African ancestry settled the region then Moors brought more of the same admixture to the South many generations later. The Central European/Slavic markers probably are from Roman slaves whose descendants mixed into the Italic population later. Ashkenazi markers in around 3% concentration are pretty common in eastern and southern Europe due to the Jewish diaspora population.
