The pronoun ‘il’ in the verse ‘il est entré dans mon cœur ‘ means ‘he,’ the man she loves. Your translation is wrong. As proof, listen to Andea Bocelli singing this song in French. Since he is a man, he changes the pronoun ‘il’ (he) to ‘elle’ (she): elle est entrée dans mon coeur. She has used the word ‘il’ several times before she sings ‘il est entré dans mon coeur.’ So clearly ‘il’ means HE in this verse.

Thanks for bringing this up! It is a little ambiguous, but I think if you look carefully at the lyrics, you'll see that if "il" means "he," then the rest of the sentence doesn't make as much sense: "He has entered into my heart a piece of happiness of which I know the cause." If you listen to Yves Montand's version (ua-cam.com/video/c6BVVhHm_e0/v-deo.html&ab_channel=EdmundStAustell), you'll see that he still says "il" even though he's singing about a woman. 🙂

As a Frenchman i can say that the translation in the video is correct, if you think that "he (it) entered into my heart" and "a piece of happiness" are two separate sentances then the next one "of which i know the cause" does not make any sens. Its hard to explain but trust me on that one. Andrea Bocelli is really a nice guy but he's not french and the guy who make the transalation made a mistake, i admit that it's a bit tricky.
