Ive ran the Nelson Rigg saddlebags and their dualsport bags for a few years. I swear by them. For the money, they cant be beat. I liked them enough that i bought them for my brother and dad
In my 40+ years of motorcycle riding, I’ve always used budget soft luggage. Maybe it’s just because I’m a budget minded motorcyclist. Thank you for your honest down-to-earth content. I always look forward to the next one. Be safe out there and enjoy the ride.
I agree that the liter measurement is always a little funky...that's why I like the Giant Loop method. They literally fill the bag with dry beans and then scoop them all out and measure the volume. ;)
I live in rainy Washington State so the Nelson Riggs Hurricane being 100% waterproof was my choice. I really appreciate the outer material is completely waterproof so if it’s raining or you cross a river or you just wash the mud off, you can just park the bike in the garage and not worry about the pannier wetting through. On my very first ride I laid the bike down on some ice and tore a hole through the bottom of the bag. The inner liner bag kept everything waterproof and Nelson Riggs sent me some matching material, with Amazon glue I was able to repair the hole. So I’d say Nelson Riggs Hurricane bags are top notch and their customer service was outstanding too.
Glad to see some publicity on the Nelson rigg stuff. I too have the hurricane stuff and it’s great. Slid on them and beat them up and so far the only failure I had was a zipper on a tank bag. Nelson rigg warrantied it very quickly.
Agreed! I wish Ian had included their panniers in this round up too as I'm very happy with the 27L Rhinowalk soft luggage that I've now put thousands of kilometers on and abused off road. I would definitely buy them again, great value
It's great that you review premium / high-end (Mosko...) and budget minded gear also. I usually buy budget gear ... but occasionally like to splurge. Your reviews are great - really appreciate the balanced approach with many options ! Thank you.
Thanks for your video's Ian. For newer riders, these types of video's are excellent. I've been riding for a few years now, but for someone just getting into this fantastic sport, it can be overwhelming as there is just so many options, so getting some inside tips on what does and doesn't work is always helpful.
20,000 miles on my Rigg Gear. Only solitary issue is the little strap holds stretch out. Other than that, they have crashed with me, drown with me and have remained water proof throughout my travels. I will be replacing them with more Rigg gear.
Excellent showcase of quality budget options for gear. I appreciate the efforts as well as honesty when it comes to comparing them against one another as well as the high end stuff. I have been riding a long time, had to take a hiatus for several reasons. Returned to it last March and everything was different. Suddenly the barrier to entry felt like I needed 10’s of thousands of dollars if I wanted to ride an ADV bike for an overnight trip. I’ve heard a lot of younger people say they gave up because of the cost to get into it and do it right and that sucks. Not every bike needs a complete suspension overall and your bags don’t have to cost you $2000.00 for weekend camping trip.
I replaced my Tusk Excursion bags for the Rigg Gear Dual Sport bags. They were both 30L, but the Rigg bags had a lot more room and are easier to load. The Rigg Gear Dual Sport bags work great on my KTM 890 Adventure R and my 525EXC. Glad that you showing the budget options.
I have the Dual sport Hurricane saddlebags, and can recommend them. (Ktm 390 adv 2021). Once you figure out the straps, they are really easy to mount/dismount as a pair at the campsite, and they are definitely waterproof. I have ridden through 2 hours of drenching rain and nothing for wet. I like the fact that my Bike can go Naked really quickly, no frames or side racks.
Another great overview of what is out there for us budget minded individuals! Thank you! I started 2 years ago with the Riggs gear Sierra bags. I tore them last year, and decided I wanted to go a little bigger, so I went with the tusk pilot bags this time. Time will tell how much I like the tusk bags.
I greatly appreciate the look at the more budget bags too. I've have my rackless tusk bags for years. Lots of crashes. Lots of miles. Zero issues. If they ever break or fail, I'll buy a new set guilt free. I can do that 5 times before even hitting the price for one Mosko set. I just don't see the point unless you're traveling around the world and replacement isn't an option.
I had the Rigg Sierra bags, and trashed one pretty badly on a BDR trip. They have a lifetime warranty, Rigg offered to replace them or give me a killer deal on the Hurricane bags. I took the Hurricanes, no regrets. Really nice bags for the price, esp when you consider the built-in bottle holders.
Thanks again for that awesome video. My wife and I both have some Nelson rig gear and our Tusk side bags. They work really well for what we need mean I’ve got to attack metal bags on my Africa twin which are expensive and work well but always good to see other options thanks very much.
Awesome review. $1200 for a set of Mosko bags isn't that bad when you think about it. How well do they hold up in a crash? Maybe you could dump the bike with the bags on in the next video and see how well they stand up. Start the collision at 40 mph on dirt first, then pavement and then a gravel road. Increase the speed by 15 mph and restart the test. Thanks for being a team player and taking one for the team on that review.
I've had the Nelson Rigg bags for years. Tank bags, tail bags, the previous generation hurricane saddle bags for my DR650. They are tough and just work well. All of the straps are a but of a pain but thats ok when they're not $1000.00
I am so on budget that I use my old hiking bag where I can attach other stuff from outside, and tie it down on the pillion seat with those bungee cord you get 5 for $10. :D .. and instead of tank bag, I use those simple bicycle handlebar bags.. easy to detach and add on top of your hiking bag..
👍i bought the Hurricane Dual Sport Saddlebags for my ktm500excf, and im very impress and very satisfied!! they are just perfect for me for the kind of ride i do.. i dont like carring a backpack, so i used to strap it on top of my gaz can(i have the tusk top rack) so the bike was very top heavy. i was expecting something ''cheap'' but they are very well made!! ☺ thank you to Nelson Riggs for giving us a very affordable, well made option!!!
I appreciate your reviews and your typically pretty technical. I’m a little disappointed at the “ I’ll just have to take their word for it” comment. It’s pretty easy to measure volume, and I definitely think your other subscribers would appreciate you including that. UA-cam will help you figure out how to do the calculations.
Rhinowalk bag 40-60 and there saddle bags. (110$ i think I picked it up for) the 40-60 has been the best thing I have done to my DRZ. fantastic for the money amazon special super functional very water resistant and has a rain fly for the days its pouring. pretty happy with it. I daily my bike and car all my work and daily gear in it so I've used it a lot.
I also use the 28- and 48-liter Rhino pannier side bags in the back and the 6- and 10-liter crashbar bags in the front, along with an SW Motech tank bag. This setup is perfect for a two-week trip in the Alps, and the smaller bags are also great for daily use on my BMW Sertao.
How well has it held up? Used the rhinowalk tail bag daily for about 2 months and it started to fall apart (stitching noticeably loosened on main portion of the bag and around the straps that held the buckle on). On the 3rd month of use daily(5x a week going into/out of it 5x a day) the stitching opened up enough to create a small hole (small pen could fit into it). Replaced with a kriega bag the day after
2023 gsa... exhaust side... Nelson hurricane... i didn't buy the quick release plate... both the rear strap and clip melted. Although the bag itself held up very well for two years. I'm somewhat nervous to purchase again but can't stand the thought of dropping $1300 or more for a bag I'll only use a few weeks a year on long trips. I will be donating my hard earned cash on NR but this time, I'll add the quick release plates. Heads up for anyone using them, double check your clips to make sure they completely snap in. They're just plastic and prone to heating up and going soft in a all day ride. Chit chatting with friends while loading up for the days ride, one might not notice he or she didn't force the clip all the way in, and 10 hours later find the strape came un-clipped and found its way behind the exhaust flopping around melting itself into the garbage bin when you get back home Ha!
Mosko Moto. When the stitching on my Rackless 80 started coming apart and I wrote to their customer service department about it I was served with “Send to us and we will have a look at it. But you may be better off finding your own local seamstress and getting it repaired by them.” Quality did not match price and neither did service. Especially after I informed them that I had only used the system on two occasions and that I had an upcoming Wyoming BDR ride where I would need the bags. Too costly for me to give them another chance. PS: When I informed RM ATV&MC that their Tusk tank bag zipper had an issue the immediate sent me a replacement. I drew my conclusions from the difference in how I was treated. PPS: Rigg Gear Quick Release Saddlebag Plates sell for $330 on their website these days. And those Hurricane Dual Sport bags go for $180.
Did you have to buy new racks? I have been thinking about a KLR adventure and can't find a picture without the bags. If the racks work with the e Rigg quick release plates that would help justify the adventure
Great video and very objective. I am sure it is difficult to be an influencer while maintain some level of bias but you pulled it off. I am and will be a life long user of Nelson Rigg gear. You mentioned that you think they have a lifetime warranty and it is important to clarify - They have a Lifetime warranty! The Hurricane series are easy to get into, organize with the included insert bags (water resistant also), and easy 2 or 3 buckle latches to get in and out of the bag. I also have Mosko stuff like the Nomax tank bag and the large duffle. I find the Mosko stuff to be heavy, buckles have broken on both pieces of luggage, and it just costs more... It also seems to be less available to get their product and is made in Asia like many of the other brands. Not a knock on Mosko and more of a call out to Rigg Gear for their awesome products.
Thanks very much for the cheaper options! Just small detail, went to the official web of Rigg gear and bags are 300 instead of 200. Still cheap but big difference in price. Cheers
I run the nelsonrigg hurricane for the last 3 years on my GSA Their is nothing better on the market for that price range and beat some of the big companies as well
Good for you! I think there may be a lot of your viewers that have to or prefer to not go for the top tier accessories and gear. I know for certain that I bargain shop. Is it as good the top of the line? No, but it will do the job.
I buy everything second hand where I can, except for my helmet. Reduce, reuse, recycle. There’s plenty of guys with sheds filled with good gear which they thought they’d use but don’t. Same goes for bikes.
Over 300 000 km, mostly in third world countries, my luggage was an army surplus duffle bag strapped longitudinally to minimise width. The total weight of everything was kept below 15 kg, including tools, clothing, etcetera for extended trips, six months plus. My waterproofing and rain gear consisted of heavy-duty garbage bags and electric insulation tape. This was in the 1980s, before the whole "adventure motorcycle" trend began. Keeping it simple not only adds to the adventure but makes one less pretentious in poorer countries. The motorcycle used cost less than some of the luggage. But to each their own, if I were to do it again today, my formula would be the same.
I've had the Rigg Gear stuff on my radar for a while. I've got hard luggage on my 800DE and want some soft stuff for more offroad focused riding. Really wish you had some Canadian Affiliate links as shipping and conversion is brutal right now.
If they are like backpacking gear companies I bet Tusk is including the volume of bottle holders or any other exterior accessories that are available for their panniers.
Hi, I really like your materiel comparison and tests. It happens thet I just ordered the N.Rigg. Hurricane tank bag for my Himi 450 after 2 days of active search and comparisons. (BTW, an idea of a video since you're testing the Himi ;) ) It's maybe a bit more expensive to import it in Europe. But I did not want to buy Chinese stuffs and there are not a lot of tank bags available in Europe with that mid size volume, waterproof and triangular design that, I hope, will fit nicely the slope of Himalayan's tank. GIVI has some tank bag that may fit but they don't have the 2 quick release attachment to the front, and it's a no go for me.
Wish I had gotten the Rigg Gear instead of the Tusk Pilots. As someone who tours around mostly on pavement and gravel roads I change layers a lot. Getting into the Pilot’s is took many steps. Yes you get good at it. It’s still dumb. I believe they do what they are designed for. A tough bag to get you to your destination with dry gear. I just made the wrong choice for me.
I'm using roll top backpacks I got for like, $17ea, and they have straps, reflective, and tie down tabs that I'll never use, I can't imagine using a molle panel to make the rig even wider, and snaggy.
I own the hurricane bags. They're not bad. I like the molle straps for attaching cheap amazon molle bags with first aid and tools, which makes these more accessible when you need it. I did have an issue where underside of right bag melted because of exhaust. Why can't they add a heatshield on the right bottom? Would be worth some extra money....
I think the average adventure rider or off tarmac tourist needs to have a think about how much use the kit will actually get. In a typical year, with British annual leave of 6 weeks, I have one family holiday with my wife, one big trip of a couple of weeks, and as I am semi retired, I'll do a few mini tours, like 3 or 4 days. So my panniers are on my bike for 20 to 25 times a year. I don't need bomb proof, shock proof panniers made out of kevlar. I wish I'd thought of this before laying out £400 on Moskomoto Reckless 40s, but they're a very fine set of bags. My little MM 10 litre panniers which carry my tools and waterproofs get used a lot more often.
Hey thanks for the video. I am a fan of your channel. Is there a way to protect the contents of your soft luggage against theft? If I stop at a shop and I can't see my motorcycle, I don't feel comfortable. I can find a solution for securing my luggage to the motorcycle , but not to secure the content of the luggage? Does anyone have an idea? Greetings from Belgium.
Now that GL make their Great Basin in Asia at $699 AUD - to take 68L of luggage it’s what I’d call affordable- no racks, top bags etc., so effectively it’s cheaper then buying cheap side panniers, top bags AND pannier racks, a lot lighter too.
Is it too much to ask for peeps like me who do not have luggage racks in my 1250GS as they are a GSA feature. i got Nicecnc bags for less than 100. they so well made and feel so premium.
You reach a point of diminishing returns at a certain point on any gear. Mosko Moto gear looks really nice but it's essentially a status symbol at this point. Tusk and other gear work just as good for 90 percent od the riders out there.
Think the price question boils down to percentages. I'm happy to pay a 20% increase in cost for a 60% increase in quality. The Mosko problem is its a 200+% increase in cost, but whats the quality increase? 🙃
Was literally watching the KLR accessory video last night wondering when you were going to do something on the Rigg hurricane panniers. Appreciate the review, I’ve been eyeing those, looks like it’s time to pull the trigger. Quick question….why do you think the Viking adventure stuff gets no press? They literally went through and copied moskos entire catalog. Which is dastardly but let’s be honest is sort of the way of things these days. Curious on your thoughts or if you’ve tested any of it. It’s almost half priced Mosko.
Extremely affordable and feel really good quality! Bought their 30L drybag daysack backpack and the two different sizes of Vizallo drybags. Easy to attach as well
I have the Nelson Rig hurricane bags on my Super Tenere. The bags are fantastic, I even hit a deer on my bike at 40mph and crashed, bike slid a good 30ft on its side and the bag got one small hole that was easily patched. 10/10 for the price.
Ian, I know you get all this gear for free and earn a good living with YT but please don't send out these superficial clickbait title video's. It feels like Microsoft bringing out another operating software full of bugs, where eventually the customer's complaints help improve & rectify the product. Case in point; read all the comments where your subscribers point out so many more viable cheap but good other options. Yes, they are from an international market. But this is an international platform and it is you who makes (these) superficial video('s)... 😞 A loose talk about 4 bags does NOT make it a GUIDE ; your original title "Budget / Beginner Adventure Motorcycle Luggage | 2025 Buyer's Guide" 😞
@BigRockMoto a bit more effort or objective research on your part, would go a long way in qualitative information towards your public. If you just want to make a quick buck via sponsors and other means, well, I get that too. It's your choice...
First off, big fan of your content. But I have to say, I hate that you referred to the items in the video as "other stuff" and "budget items.". THESE PRICES SHOULD BE THE DEFAULT........OR DO NOT BUY THEM
Why don't you promote more known brands of soft luggage, like Enduristan, Lone Rider, Oxford, Lomo, 21 brothers ect. But keep using obscure brands nobody hardly know about like Tusk and Rigg gear. First time I hear of them.
Well Kriega then, isn't that US? They are at least sold all over the world. Tusk looks like they are a Chinese copy of Givi and the tank bags looks like they copy Enduristan.

Is your wife away on vacation? Is that why the GSA is in the house LOL great video, enjoyed it!
Only real men park their bike in the living room absolutely 😊😊
Ithink that’s Ian’s garage…
My wife walked by and saw me watching this video on my tablet and immediately said "No, you're not bringing your bike inside." *sad Tenere noises*
She is definitely not home.
Ive ran the Nelson Rigg saddlebags and their dualsport bags for a few years. I swear by them. For the money, they cant be beat. I liked them enough that i bought them for my brother and dad
I really like that you made 2 saddlebag videos, one high-end, one budget, thanks for thinking of everyone!
No problem!

Haha yeah that's a much more accurate way to measure!
I love Nelson Rigg bags, so solid and a great bang for your buck 👍
Awesome ! So tired of seeing stuff half price of my vstrom 😂
I feel ya, it gets expensive!

Turkana from South Africa make some nice soft luggage.
Really appreciate your honest and knowledgeable reviews!

Quality did not match price and neither did service.
I took the hard bags off my KLR Adventure and put on Nelson Rigg Dual Sport bags
Cheers
Check rocky mountain. Cheaper there.
@ thanks again!
I run the nelsonrigg hurricane for the last 3 years on my GSA
Their is nothing better on the market for that price range and beat some of the big companies as well
Have the gen 1 riggear bags on my dr650. 5yrs of daily commuting (seasonally) no issues.
That's great to hear you're happy with them!
Love your videos, great job!
GSA in the living room! Exactly the way it needs to be! Could you call my wife on that subject?! 😬
Haha
Thanks for the recs!
Glad I could help!
Amazing timing! I’ve been looking into luggage for my new Himmy 450 😄
Those Rigg Gear panniers seem like a good deal.
Good for you! I think there may be a lot of your viewers that have to or prefer to not go for the top tier accessories and gear. I know for certain that I bargain shop. Is it as good the top of the line? No, but it will do the job.
Very true!
Thank You Ian.
Very welcome
I buy everything second hand where I can, except for my helmet.
Reduce, reuse, recycle.
There’s plenty of guys with sheds filled with good gear which they thought they’d use but don’t.
Same goes for bikes.
Great video!!
Thanks! I hope it helps
thanks planning to buy.
Nice job!😊
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great options, Ian. Have you looked at the "Turkana Gear" from South Africa ? Also, a great option, waterproof, dustproof and made for rugged travel.
Great point
Great presentation. Been looking for some budget panniers for a Honda XR650L. Thanks
Glad I could help you find some good options!
I've had the Rigg Gear stuff on my radar for a while. I've got hard luggage on my 800DE and want some soft stuff for more offroad focused riding. Really wish you had some Canadian Affiliate links as shipping and conversion is brutal right now.
If they are like backpacking gear companies I bet Tusk is including the volume of bottle holders or any other exterior accessories that are available for their panniers.
i use the same tusk piolet bags with the swmotech plate that fits the ktm powerparts rack, and its great.
Glad to hear you're using similar gear and having success with it!
Thank you!
You're welcome!
Hi, I really like your materiel comparison and tests. It happens thet I just ordered the N.Rigg. Hurricane tank bag for my Himi 450 after 2 days of active search and comparisons. (BTW, an idea of a video since you're testing the Himi ;) )
It's maybe a bit more expensive to import it in Europe.
Still waiting on your review of the new CF Moto 450 ibex.
All jokes aside, your opinion really matters.
Ian, if you had to buy one bike and one bike only out of these 3 bikes.Which one would you pick.
2025 Africa twin
2025 Desert X
2025 Aprilia tuareg
Are the rackless bags shown waterproof of do they have dry liners?
You reach a point of diminishing returns at a certain point on any gear. Mosko Moto gear looks really nice but it's essentially a status symbol at this point. Tusk and other gear work just as good for 90 percent od the riders out there.
Think the price question boils down to percentages.
I'm happy to pay a 20% increase in cost for a 60% increase in quality.
The Mosko problem is its a 200+% increase in cost, but whats the quality increase? 🙃
If you get caught in the rain do the Tusk bags absorb water in the outer layers?
They can yes
You have a motorcycle in your living room.
I always thought Nelson Rig was good for the money.
me and my wife have been worried about everyone ewe watch that is from California from the fires. hope everyone's homes and family's are safe.
My friend Jeff has, he has a channel called ADV Agenda. Check out his videos. I haven't used them, Mosko would not be happy... ;)
👍
Check out Lomo
Versatile, quality luggage at an affordable price.
Extremely affordable and feel really good quality! Bought their 30L drybag daysack backpack and the two different sizes of Vizallo drybags. Easy to attach as well
Budget or not it’s all made in the same Mexican or Chinese shops.Regardless of what is printed on the bag.
I have the Nelson Rig hurricane bags on my Super Tenere. The bags are fantastic, I even hit a deer on my bike at 40mph and crashed, bike slid a good 30ft on its side and the bag got one small hole that was easily patched. 10/10 for the price.
That's good to hear they held up so well!
When I say budget friendly I mean aliexpress 25usd.
Mine held up for 2 seasons
I get it, but I can't realistically test every bag out there.
Lol man, you gotta relax, how is he supposed to do every luggage option? Yeesh, can't make anyone happy on this platform.
@BigRockMoto a bit more effort or objective research on your part, would go a long way in qualitative information towards your public. If you just want to make a quick buck via sponsors and other means, well, I get that too. It's your choice...
@@chillyinalbertablessed are ye of mediocrity 😢
@PeterR0035 lol okie dokie bud. You seem eem like a blast to be around.
Here in the U.S. I’ve never heard of any of the brands you mentioned, I will look them up. Rigg and Tusk are pretty well know here. (U.S.)
Unless you're a GS1250 owner you know about Rigg Gear 😅
Well Kriega then, isn't that US? They are at least sold all over the world.
Tusk looks like they are a Chinese copy of Givi and the tank bags looks like they copy Enduristan.
Rhinowalk is a Chinese brand that copies Enduristan. Looks are very similar, but not as durable.
It depends on country I guess.
I just did a full review on the hurricane bags on my T7. Great bags and a smoking deal! ua-cam.com/video/iOPd2o23nfc/v-deo.htmlsi=G7H1QoxgZxRm9vxy
Thank you!
