1900 Coquelin as Cyrano

Edmond Rostand created the role of Cyrano de Bergerac for the actor Coquelin. Here is a rare film clip, made along with a separate audio recording on wax cylinder, of Coquelin in the role of Cyrano. In effect, it was an early experiment in creating a "talkie." While movement is restricted due to the limited space (cameras of this era were static creatures), it is fun to see the early scene of the poem composed while Cyrano duels with a bad actor.
