Hi everyone, Steve here. In this second video in my series on working with smart objects in Photoshop, I show you how to edit a smart object and how to easily replace its contents! We start by converting an image into a smart object and placing it inside a frame (0:49). Once the smart object is in the frame, we learn how to edit the contents of the smart object (4:52), and then how to replace the image in the smart object with a new image (10:00). If you're not familiar with smart objects, be sure to check out the previous video in this series ( ua-cam.com/video/UC1fH4X51YY/v-deo.html ) where I cover what smart objects are and how to create them. Please leave any comments, questions or suggestions below, and thanks for watching!
Thank you! This is EXACTLY what I needed to learn to do. Thanks for explaining everything so well. Definitely subscribing to your channel. Thanks again!
Nice Tutorial. Everything was not only easy to follow, but clear as well. This also makes the recall easier. The time you take to explain why something is done helps better understand how the function can be applied to other projects.
thank you mr. but I still have 2 main issues 1-when I edit a layer mask like feather, smooth, or something it creates a new layer without smart object icon 2-when I invert selection to trim unnecessary edges, it keeps it permanent so I can't edit layer mask any more so please what should I DO?? thanks in advance
Honestly, between being able to edit them, scale them, distort and warp them, make copies of them, and apply smart filters to them, I can't imagine working in Photoshop without smart objects. I'm so used to them that I usually convert my layers to smart objects before I even know what I plan on doing with them. :)
hello sir, I would like to ask on where I must save the psb file because my laptop asking me where should I save it, because I added filters and nothing happens because I do not know where should I save it, please help me on my problem. Thanks in advance :)
@6:33 I cannot begin to tell you how absolutely WONDERFUL viewing this tutorial has been for me. Your instructions were very clear and easy to follow. I couldn't seem to find this kind of help any where on You Tube! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING!!!
How to do a dual screens smart object???? For ex- If i want to see both photo simultaneously in one frame??? What is the process????? Plz help me out regarding this
I'm wondering why in the video you made about creating smart objects you placed a hummingbird on a background without selecting an area on the background first like you did in this video. So when would I need to do this and when would I not?
Will a Smart Object file behave the same way in a program other than Photoshop? Also once I put a Smart Object on a layer in Photoshop , how can I remove it? Thanks 😊
Smart objects only work in Photoshop. To convert a smart object back to a normal layer, right-click (Win) / Control-click (Mac) on the smart object in the Layers panel and choose Rasterize Layer.
@@PhotoshopEssentialsChannel It was so helpful I finally get it. I have purchases classes and they didn’t break it down like you did. Do you have any courses
Make sure the resolution of both images is the same by going up to the Image menu, choosing Image Size, and looking at the Resolution value for each image. Even if the pixel dimensions for both images are the same, they will appear as different sizes if the Resolution values are different. To change the resolution without changing the pixel dimensions of the image, uncheck the Resample option before entering a new Resolution value.

Yes and sometimes it doesn’t let you save smart objects and update the original file, I’ll look into that.

How can I keep objects from resizing when replacing contents?
Make sure the resolution of both images is the same by going up to the Image menu, choosing Image Size, and looking at the Resolution value for each image. Even if the pixel dimensions for both images are the same, they will appear as different sizes if the Resolution values are different.
To change the resolution without changing the pixel dimensions of the image, uncheck the Resample option before entering a new Resolution value.
Thanks!
Simple and useful idea.
Thanks Paul, I hope it was helpful.
