100% agree with you at 3:08 ... I was one of those who put my career ahead. But at only 24 I was diagnosed with endometriosis stage 4 and an endometrioma on my ovary. I have yet to test my ovarian reserve for IVF (takes time under the public system) but I am absolutely losing my mind. I wish I had done this earlier and that this was a topic we learned about growing up!! 20 is not too young for knowledge of our own bodies. If we can learn about sex Ed earlier we should learn about female (and male) reproductive conditions too.

same exact problems, but diagnosed at 30, with extremely low AMH. you're not alone!
Almost 37 and I got some really disappointing, but important results from the AMH this year. It makes me mad that no one tells us anything about this when we're still young. If you're in your 30s, do it asap. It's a simple blood test. Was $100 (in Canada) and may have just changed the path of my life.

Exactly this! Also almost 37 and just got a disappointing AMH results on a blood test on Monday and over the week I've turned from sadness to anger that this wasn't something anyone suggested I look into earlier. I briefly considered egg collection at 31 but it seemed so theoretical at the time... now I wish I had and I can't go back in time...

I am 38 trying my first child. My AMH is 0.64 and follicle account was 4-6/ 6-9. I started with a medicated IUI. I was first tested 3 years ago when my follicle count was worse. My life was very stressful back then. I have lead healthy stress-free life ever since.🍃💓
So follicle count can actually increase over time? I was led to believe it only diminishes...

Second, any chance you could do a video on FSH and the relationship to fertility? I know there are a lot of at home blood tests that only check FSH and not AMH so knowing the differences/risks would be amazing!
yess FSH is an older test (all we had before AMH and really doesn't give you as much insight to the future as it does now - but it is cheaper and cycle day specific). I will put this on the video list to help people know the difference. Also thanks for commenting!!

All my sisters and I have low AMH, my sisters have been able to conceive just fine in early and late 30s. I am in my first month of TTC at 31 and hoping for the best. It just takes one egg so I'm going to look at the bright side and not worry about it for now! Good information to have nonetheless.
Edit: I did get pregnant shortly after this AMH of 9, my sister was AMH 2 and got pregnant after 5 months. My other sister was 38 with AMH 9 and she conceived twins after a miscarriage. I know everyone is different, I post only because I don't want people to freak out if they have low AMH it isnt the be all and end all, like I freaked out when I saw my number towards the bottom of the big graph comparing me to ppl my age
That’s how you do it. I stopped watching videos from obgyn and doctors because all they do is fear monger. I’m sticking more with empowering videos like fertility coaches

Absolutely love your videos, Dr. Crawford! Do you know if taking metformin (for pcos) can cause low AMH levels? I read that women with pcos have high AMH levels and metformin helps bring that down but in my case, I have been taking metformin for 5+ years and just found out that my AMH levels are low. I'm a 33 year old single woman who is having an IUI with donor sperm in February 2024. I will have a HCG trigger only and no Femara or Clomid.
I haven't had any diagnosis of PCOS or Endometriosis, however, for a long time I suffered very badly with period pains and I once went 55 days without a period at all.
It was found that I was low on vitamin D so my GP prescribed me a 6 week course and since I finished the course (6 months ago) my periods are now regular and barely painful at all!
What I would like to know is my actual chances of this IUI working and if there is anything I can do to improve my chances?
I've been told I have 'small ovaries' and that my AMH and AFC are on the lower side, should I be worried about this?

I’m about to turn 35 and my AMH is 4.2 but I have a family history of breast cancer and some auto immune issues which I control with diet exercise and lifestyle decisions. I’m adhd and have ptsd so i really could use more time - I want to wait longer with my partner. 4.2 doesn’t tell me about my egg quality though. I wish this was discussed more frequently.
I just found your channel and love all the info you provide. I’m curious to hear your answer to my question. I got my first period at 16 yrs old and it was irregular for many years ( my gyno said probably because I am naturally so slender/thin was the cause) I than went on birth control (yasmin) from the age of 19 to 29 . I went off birth control but used a backup when having sex plus I rarely got a period maybe once every 3 to 5 months. When my partner and I decided to have a baby when I was 31 it was hard only because I didn’t have a period every month so I wasn’t ovulating often. I used ovulation predictor tests and got pregnant at 32 and gave birth at 33 to a healthy baby girl. I didn’t have a period until she was 2 because I breastfed her for a couple yrs. When my periods started back up they were every 28 days and have continued that way for 2 yrs now. I now know exactly when I’m ovulating bc I have an increased sex drive and I produce the fertile egg white type of cm (I never had that before my pregnancy) at ovulation. I want to try for another baby at 37 yrs old. My question is all those yrs when I was only ovulating a few times a yr, does that mean that fewer of my eggs were released bc I wasn’t ovulating and would that mean that I may have more of an egg reserve? I know tests would have to be done to tell for sure what my egg reserve is but I would love to hear what you have to say about that. Sorry for such a long comment. Thank you

Got my AMH checked today and I was so worried because I want to do a fresh embryo transfer for my IVF cycle thankful that it’s perfect high enough for IVF fresh transfer but not too high to worry about over stimulation
Might be worth mentioning to people that IVF and egg/embryo freezing is SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper in other countries with comparable standards of care as the US. My husband and I are currently pursuing embryo freezing in Germany which will cost us roughly $3,500 per cycle vs the roughly $22,000 per cycle it would cost us to do it in our area. Even when we factor in the flights and the cost of lodging in Berlin for a few weeks, we still save a ton of money going to Europe. We were also considering clinics in Prague and a couple in Greece because they offer PGT-A which Germany does not allow.

Hi Natalie! I really love your videos, and I want to be a doctor when I grow up. I have Turner Syndrome, which means I am missing my second X chromosome. I know this means I will basically be infertile, so I am thinking about adopting or possibly doing embryo adoption when I get older. Hi Natalie me and my husband are trying for our second baby ive done all kinds of tests ( which has all come back ok including a ultrasound that checks ovaries and uterus) I did a AMH test which came out slightly higher than the normal 4 :16 she went on to tell me that is seen in woman with PCOS BUT she said i dont have PCOS as my periods are normal and im ovulating also my scan was perfect no cysts nothing bad at all!
What could be the reason why a AMH would be slightly higher I am turning 31 this year in june

Hi Natalie, I'm 32 with AMH of 1.7. I'm wondering how much would an eating disorder affect this. I am recovered anorexic/bulimic whom had little to no periods since 15 and then used noriday for 11 years and even on that I got very light to no period (is cross over with my ED and contraceptive). So yeah just wondering if an eating disorder effect it or would it be more the fact I'm have hypothyroidism.

There are studies on this and after reading them Low AMH in a patient with AN should raise clinical concern regarding ovarian reserve, but should not be attributed to degree of malnutrition alone.

I recently went a length of time with no period, given that I’m not sure if I’m done having children I went in to the doctors to see if I should make the decision sooner than later.
All of my levels came back normal and my AMH 3.01 which I am told is high for a 34 year old and aligns with being 25-30.
Is it possible for amh to be slightly elevated for age without PCOS?

I've been TTC for 2yrs as of this Sept, 2023... had an AMH test, which was 5.17, and had a AFC, L: 12 & R: 18. My boyfriend had two other kids with zero issues, so I'm thinking I'm the issue. I do not have regular periods either, I get one by myself naturally maybe once every 1yrs-1.5yrs. I don't have any fibroids or any blockage either. I'm not sure why I'm not conceiving and it's really heartbreaking.
It sounds like you are not ovulating and those follicle count could be PCOS! Please see a doctor to talk about ovulation induction. hugs

Hey! I'm 28 years old. My AMH levels are 23 ng/ml. I was diagnosed with PCOS (no excessive hair growth) can this be decreased with exercise & lifestyle changes? Or would I need particular treatment for the same?

My AMH is 0,53, but in ultrasound they found 12/14 follicles. Other hormones are good, 33 y.o. I’ve gained 30kg because of an eating disorder, now i’m losing weight, and I’m wondering if maybe my obesity is causing low AMH levels.

When I'm in high periods of stress or anxiety I get my periods twice a month..what does that mean? And also does it mean I'm running out of eggs faster? Also when you are oestrogen dominant should you take progesterone to balance it out or take D.I.M and Vitex?

We want another baby. After having two mirena placed we decided to remove it. After a year plus no cycle. Went to fertility specialist and had this test. Results came back as 0. We’re devastated. Provider said even with hormones there no chance of getting pregnant.

I’ve been doing extended breastfeeding and my last child one is 3 and my periods returned when he was 2 and they’re regular but only last 23 days (used to be 28 pre pregnancy). I’m thinking about another child and my doctor says it’s no problem if my cycles are shorter but somehow I feel it might be an issue to conceive. How does extended breastfeeding effect the fertility? At 34 I had to breakdown crying before my doctor would test me. When my AMH was checked it came out in the post menopausal range. Afterwards, all my provider could say was “sorry” several times.
I clearly stated over the years that I wasn’t ready to conceive but I wanted to know about how much time I had to wait. The only solution I would be met with is “try to get pregnant”. So frustrating when you just finished saying you’re not quite ready to have a child. Even up to the day I was tested, the same cold statement was made. It’s devastating that I tried to be proactive but was discouraged/ignored by providers for years. They claimed I was young and had nothing to worry about.
Then my follicle count was only 4. Btw I had removal of my left ovary and left Fallopian tube due to endometriosis at 17 y.o. So I don’t understand why I was brushed off for so long.

I don't have acne/hair overgrowth, no cysts on my ovary (according to recent pelvic ultrasound), and my other hormone levels are all within normal limits. I only have one ovary, but I'm not sure what influence/role that has on my fertility.

I have ovarian reserve my doctor told me, I did IVF twice, the first I retrieved 7 eggs and only one fertilized but failed when they transferred. Next I had 5 follicles retrieved and did ICSI and two got fertilized but abnormalities. So the doctor told me it’s better to buy eggs to get me pregnant I am really disappointed Bec my doctor gave up right away. What I’m going to do please help me doc. I am 34 now
