I looooove Ledisi!!! WE know her gift! You can tell by that first burst of applause her audience had NO IDEA of what they were going to be treated to. Lol. I watch this video because their collective shock and amazement at our sister's talent gives chills and humor simultaneously!
Thank you for mentioning the GREAT Ella Fitzgerald. This performance actually was in honor of Ella's 90th Bday as I recall. Ledesi is the truth! She is a modern day Ella. Ella set the bar so high that it is refreshing to hear someone that you can honestly mention in the same breath as Ella without question. For my money, Ella is STILL unsurpassed. But if ANYONE these days comes close, it's certainly Ledesi. She tore this song up!!!!! A perfect homage to the greatest; Ella Fitzgerald!
I been looking for this clip for AGES...Thanks for uploading. LOVE this rendition, so incredible. They don't make 'em like this anymore so might as well cherish the moments. Thanks again.
I just can't get enough of this voice. Oooh dear god! And such a brilliant performance with awesome video and audio. Superb. Such a panacea for so much tripe that is passed off as music.
Smashing ! I knew the studio version from the « Ella » album, but this is just incredible. Live, on stage, with the band. One of most fantastic pieces of vocal music, period.
Such confidence in her vocals. Bending her voice beyond imagination thro so many tones high, low and center monstrously. Quite indescribably incredulous. What a powerful voice range never seen before. She's a diamond.🔥💪❤️😀
This footage was from Ella's 90th bday celebration. (yrs. ago) I'd like to believe that Ella was up there tapping her toes and saying; "Sang it baby!" A great performance sang in homage to the GREATEST singer of all time!
My mama done told me When I was in pig tails My mama done told me "Honey, a man's gonna sweet talk And give you the big eye But when that sweet talkin's done A man is a two-face, a worrisome thing Who'll leave you to sing The blues in the night Now the rain is a-fallin' Hear the train a-callin' My mama done told me Hear that lonesome whistle Blowin' 'cross the trestle My mama done told' me Ol' clickety-clack's a-echoin' back The blues in the night The evenin' breeze'll start the trees to cryin' And the moon will hide it's light When you get the blues in the night Take my word, the mockingbird'll the sing The saddest kind of song He knows things are wrong and he's right And from Natchez to Mobil From Memphis to St. Joe Wherever the four winds blow I've been in some big towns And heard me some big talk But there is one thing that I know A man is a two-face, a worrisome thing Who'll leave you to sing The blues in the night From Natchez to Mobil From Memphis to St. Joe Wherever the four winds blow I've been in some big towns And heard a lot of talking But there is one thing that I know A man is a two-face, a worrisome thing Who'll leave you to sing The blues in the night Talking about the blues in the night
This version is dripping with soul and i think jesus walked by she took it to church.BUt ella fitzgerald is the only other one I really like check it out if you dont know it.
THANK YOU!!!! No one who enjoys a fo'real singer should EVER sleep on the great Ella Fitzgerald. The music may not be as contemporary, but for pure vocal prowess, Ella was IT AND THAT'S ALL! But Ledesi comes sooooo close! But hands down, Ella was a gift from God, the likes of has not since been heard. I love Ella's version best, but I agree with you. Ledesi took us to church. Who knows how Ella might have stretched out back then. Let's not forget the rampant racism back in her day. They wouldn't have been ready for her to give it to them raw and churchy! But what she did, even back then STILL blows people away today. Ella's fan base continues to grow. She's STILL selling at 101 yrs. old and dead since 96. Go Ella! Great homage, Ledesi! She DID that!
Exactly! This performance was a tribute to the great Ella Fitzgerald! Beyoncé can't even hold a candle to Ella who has been deceased since 1996. Beyoncé who, indeed?! I'd like to forget her.
She is a vocal BEAST!
Ledisi Really tears this song up. So much talent. Would love to hear more Blues/ Jazz by her.
Yes. Less R & B, in my view.
I'M STILL SPEECHLESS EVERY TIME I WATCH THIS!!!!! SHE'S THE BEST!!!
Vocal monster ❤ She’s absolutely perfect
She knocks it out of the park!!
I looooove Ledisi!!! WE know her gift! You can tell by that first burst of applause her audience had NO IDEA of what they were going to be treated to. Lol. I watch this video because their collective shock and amazement at our sister's talent gives chills and humor simultaneously!
Had them SHOOK!
This was so perfect! And what she did with her voice from 3:04-3:08 was crazy! How does she do it?! So amazing!
HOOLLEE SSHHIITT! Ooh, I'm still hurtin' from this one! What a brilliant performance! Ooh, girl! You make me, hmm, hmm, hmm! Thank you, Ledisi.
This woman never disappoints on stage! No studio tricks or reverb needed.
Holy cow ! One of the best jazz vocals I,ve ever heard --- takes down everybody --- never thought I,d hear someone equal Ella --- great band

This is what Ike Turner meant when he said"PUT SOME STANK ON IT"! she sang the mess out of this song!

I just can't get enough of this voice. Oooh dear god! And such a brilliant performance with awesome video and audio. Superb. Such a panacea for so much tripe that is passed off as music.

My mama done told me
When I was in pig tails
My mama done told me
"Honey, a man's gonna sweet talk
And give you the big eye
But when that sweet talkin's done
A man is a two-face, a worrisome thing
Who'll leave you to sing
The blues in the night
Now the rain is a-fallin'
Hear the train a-callin'
My mama done told me
Hear that lonesome whistle
Blowin' 'cross the trestle
My mama done told' me
Ol' clickety-clack's a-echoin' back
The blues in the night
The evenin' breeze'll start the trees to cryin'
And the moon will hide it's light
When you get the blues in the night
Take my word, the mockingbird'll the sing
The saddest kind of song
He knows things are wrong and he's right
And from Natchez to Mobil
From Memphis to St. Joe
Wherever the four winds blow
I've been in some big towns
And heard me some big talk
But there is one thing that I know
A man is a two-face, a worrisome thing
Who'll leave you to sing
The blues in the night
From Natchez to Mobil
From Memphis to St. Joe
Wherever the four winds blow
I've been in some big towns
And heard a lot of talking
But there is one thing that I know
A man is a two-face, a worrisome thing
Who'll leave you to sing
The blues in the night
Talking about the blues in the night

That wasn't autotune that's her voice ...smh
beyonce who? lol

I’m indifferent to Beyonce but she’s great in her lane, no need to put her down to praise Ledisi
That singer is amazing, but american are boring adding melodyne and autotune in everyfucking live performance in shows, even here witgh Ledisi!
sorry, wenn ich Ella, Peggy und Billie nie gehört hätte, dann wärs geil, aber so is a guter Versuch, sogar i brings besser hin
