.280 Remington is grossly under appreciated due to poor marketing from the inception. Used that cartridge hunting many years in a BAR, A-Bolt, and X-Bolt. 5 years ago I transitioned to a .280 Ackley Improved. Always be a special place in my memories for the .280.
The 280 has been a favourite of mine since the 70s. It has performed great on white tails, mulies , elk and bear. I’ve used 150 nosler ballistic tips for deer and 160 partitions on everything bigger and it has never let me down. Very respectable performance on game and reasonable recoil. What more could you ask. Interesting video. 👍🏻
I read an artical years ago how the .280 Rem. was a under rated Round but could do a great job on anything from Antilope to Moose. Happened to find a great used rifle in a pawn shop for $300.I bought it, and had great success with it for many years. Gave it to my grandson who gave it to his first born son. still shoots 1 inch at 100 yards .I've seen Deer drop at 800+ yds. with it
Great demonstration of comparison between high power large caliber rifle cartridges and small caliber lesser powered cartridges. Appreciate the video and the down to earth approach. Stay safe and Lord bless you and your family.
My Remington was a Jammaster with a 10 inch group at 100 yards. Switched to a Mini-14 for less than an inch group at 100 yards. No turning back for me. Good video! Thanks.
Hard to beat a 280, my 700bdl with stainless 24" barrel 15-20 deer so far & only 1 ran a short distance. Heart shot 9pt that was pumped up in rut. Massive blood trail. Thanks for the vid!
We used to all run rem 7600s in 3006 during deer season. There are 9 of us. But us younger guys will switch between 3006, 308 and now our ARs. Especially within 100 yards with a good load. We are coming to find that hot m193 fmj coming out of a 20" Barrell is absolutely devesdating on deer if it's legal where you hunt. Most places require a expanding projectile but if you are legally allowed to use it that m193 will fragment just as it gets into the lungs and heart. It punches way above it's weight. But a .223 of 5.56 will never be a 3006... But it has its applications. Also we have found that the 60gr/70gr Barnes ttsx, mk262 black hills, and fbi 62gr soft point, and 62gr federal fusions are awesome performers. Again if it's legal, or if you couldn't find any other ammo for an AR m193 works great. I have found that the 55gr soft points just don't penetrate deep enough. Best to take head and neck shots with those lighter 55gr rounds. Just not enough mass to push through to the vitals to ensure and ethical kill. Love these gel shot videos. Thanks!
The 223 can and does kill deer every year but the 280 is a far better deer cartridge. The 280 will penetrate heavy bone and muscle better and at farther range than the 223 is capable of.
Core Lokt Tipped rounds are just Hornady SSTs with a green tip instead of red. And I don't mean equivalent performance, I mean they're literally the same exact bullet. All Core Lokt Tipped bullets are available only in the same exact weights that SSTs are, and the BC is identical in every weight and caliber.
Similar in performance? yes... Same EXACT? NO!!! the Hornady sst version for my 280 is 139 grain and the Remington, NOW SIERRA OWNED, is 140 grain with "slightly" different bullet designs so no they are not "Literally" or "exactly" the same... similar?(yes) the words "exact" and "literally" would mean that there are "zero" differences.... While I do understand the point that you are attempting to make, statements such as this are how bad and incorrect rumors start circulating... aside from my little OCD rant here though, the 280 Remington in my humble opinion is the absolute most underrated cartridge out there... absolutely phenomenal in so many aspects other than factory ammo availability!!!
Been using a 280 and 140 frain core-lokts for 25 years. Its magic.

The .280 is a hammer. I've had a few deer over the years stand straight up and fall over backwards.

Go with 165 grain remington corelokt. It will feed best.

That's the same rifle I have. It is flawless and stupidly accurate for an off the shelf firearm
I like the 280 its a great bullet
Great vid! Really need to test these bullets at more of a hunting distance in my opinion!

Love those .223 TSXs. Used them a bunch with great success.
The 193 fmj will fragment went it gets into the heart/lungs? Hunt much?
