My screenwriting professor at Emerson College was none other than Mark Saraceni!
He unfortunately was part of the Season 2 Exodus, but was integral to the history of the show.
According to him - while he didn't write the actual teleplay - it was HIS idea to have Tony kill a former Mafioso while taking Meadow to college. Chase and the other writers picked up the concept and turned it into a full-fledged script.
It's insane to think the man who helped revolutionized television forever had to read my pilot about two ducks who run a film school.
Your concept sounds like the episode of Family Guy, where they’re trying to come up with a show and the show is just two ducks. One of them is crippled and one of them has a tomato for a nose. My point is you having two ducks run a film school should’ve got a pilot at least 😂😂😂
David saying people dont understand the characters then writing many saints is wild
Right, while also only directing 2 episodes....personally Terrence Winter and his crew is responsible for how good 'pranos is
@@elmizzoxChase was the guy whose reaction to the fans who were angry at the ending was, “It made a lot of people angry. And sometimes, I couldn’t believe that it was that important to people.” And let’s not forget he was the guy who was going to bring the Russian back, but then decided against it when someone mentioned how happy that was going to make the fans.
@@RedhotshawntexasDavid Chase has no respect for this thing
@@elmizzoxsometimes, the best thing people can do is get out of their own way and build a team
He never had the makings of a screenwriter.
*Many Saints of Newark fails*
Critics: You never had the makings of a varsity screenwriter.
It turns out, Michael Imperioli, aka Chrissy, did have the makings of a Soprano series writer.
@@robertlee4172 Chris finally got his arc as a screenwriter and made the most successful show in tv history.
Imagine how good Game of Thrones would have been had the writers room been this intense. Instead D&D burned out and HBO didn't have the balls to step in.
THERE NEEDS TO BE A VID LIKE THIS FOR THE CLASSIC SIMPSONS WRITER'S ROOM!!!!!!!!!!
I agree. The Simpsons commentaries (Futurama too) were what got me seriously interested in TV writing
Conan o Brien did this: ua-cam.com/video/DtJ28qOEG1g/v-deo.htmlsi=vtvTajjmAt6vx_Uc
Idea: the "that's what the money is for!" scene from Mad Men is probably about what it was like for Matt working for David/Don. I don't see David Chase taking the time to thank his writing room much.
At about the 8:30 mark, Russian classical music plays softly in the background, and it all comes together.....David Chase is the Joseph Stalin of TV production, eliminating all his writers/generals that might hog his spotlight.
Kino and his subconscious auto suggestion. Good one.
I’m glad you caught that. Very observant. The sacred and the propane.
I love that you've included an episode researching and describing the work that they do.
Very interesting point about Matt Weiners role and subsequent firing from the show.
Just like in the most popular rock bands, egos get in the way of writing albums.
Some ideas are used and others deleted during production. But the final product is pure genius.
Frank Costanza : " Your mother was right, you never had the makings of a varsity computer salesman "
20 years in the writers room. I couldn’t make the sopranos, I compromised I made Mad Men
GREAT VIDEO KINO!!
Kino why can't you be more like Lloyd Braun?
I wish I could stumble upon your channel again kino and binge watch all your videos again for the first time🥲
Hey, thanks again Sir.👍☘️
Cheers for the book link , not so sure about that Mozart but it does work well.📚👏
Lloyd Braun was also famously the original main executive impetus for LOST while at ABC. I mean, not really anything more specific than "Survivor, the drama series with a plane crash", but he was the one pushing for the network to do it at all and find writers to more fully develop the idea. It's also him who voices the infamous "previously, on Lost" at the beginning of all the episodes after the pilot.
I love when JT can't even sell his emmy. Such a great portrayal of David Chase's contempt for television
Very interesting video Kino thanks! Writers are often overlooked aspect, glad someone give this less glamorous profession some well deserved attention 👍
Lloyd Braun? He's not even a bra-oone!
Hey, Kino…. Did the writers room even exshist?
I’d love to see a video like this about the wire
I have a section of my Wire retrospective dedicated to the writers of that show. The video is on my channel called "All The Pieces"
DID THEY READ FOR DAVID?!
Currently writing a pilot novelization inspired by David Chase’s “Not Fade Away” and the Rock n Roll archetype
Generation Kill is so good man
Great video, as always. I would love a Breaking Bad and Mad Men one as well.
pure kino? i guess i'll check em
I remember listening to the guests on Talking Sopranos and thinking a writer's room sounded like a fun place to work! I've always liked the idea of writing, and it seems like the collaborative nature of TV writing would work the best for me. Sitting down to focus on writing by myself is so hard, and I already engage in collaborative storytelling thanks to tabletop roleplaying games. 💜
@@debrachambers1304 The more I watch The Sopranos the more I believe it's (mostly) a comedy. 😆
The writing and the performances made the show what it is
Yeah, I did the same thing. I’m researching my favorite soap operas writers.
Serenity now!
this thing of ours…. Is nothing without Kino 🍷
It's kind of disappointing, but also hilarious, to hear that Matt Weiner was a brown-noser to those above him and a bully to those below him, bc Mad Men is a masterpiece.
But I always did get an odd vibe from him, like he was really pretentious, arrogant, and snobby. But I can understand the pretentiousness and arrogance, given it wasn't really an affectation and/or overcompensation, but moreso that he had an accurate assessment of his skill as a storyteller.
But he still didn't seem fun to be around, because no one likes an arrogant douche 😂
Is the Great Defender any good, worth checking out?
I love that you made this!!! Let’s give writers credit!
Could you make a video on Massvie Genius?
A hit is a hit, and Sopranos, my friends, is a hit!
Excellent video. In the world of TV, there’s nothing more important than the writers’ room. These guys deserve a little bit of the spotlight.
I say Weiner did so well on the show because he and Chase share a very similar personality. They’re writers who can cut it as show runners. Winter too, but to a lesser extent-nothing he has done since has been in the same league as The Sopranos.
It’s official: Lloyd Braun conceived the Sopranos
Mad Men was awesome.
AN ENTIRE ROOM… FULL OF SOPRANOS FANS…
AND YOU DID NOTHING!!! 😂
LLOYD BRAUN!!!!
Wasn't he Institutionalized!?
Commendatori… bonjourno (David Chase looks away)
I subbed for sopranos analysis
I wonder if you do a video about the drama between the Sopranos actors apparently there’s a lot of bad blood between them that was quite surprising
Anyone in NYC interested in being part of a film?
8:35, Mergers and Acquisitions is a S4 episode, not S3; it’s literally the episode before Ralphie gets killed
UNCLE PHILLY MY ASS!
Could an individual person or showrunner write the entirety of The Sopranos?
Nice to see Lloyd Braun land on his feet after getting fired by Frank Costanza.
Terry Winter was the goat
A good show for you to critique is Your Honor
She probably gets more credit than she deserves for obvious reasons
I guess Chase is not that different from Tony after all...
❤
Why cant u be more like Lyoyd Braun
I was about to be super surprised that writers for blue bloods for 14 years were also sopranos writers…the being fired makes sense, cause that show is just absolute cop propaganda red meat
The Sopranos and The Wire are two of my favorite shows and it sure seems like both were created by self important pricks.
The Sporanos got a little tedious and repetitive in the last couple of seasons.
David Chase and Vincent Gilliagen are both hands down the best tv writers to make cinema history.
He should do a show like survivor and call it “Gilligan’s Island” 😂
i wanted more sopranos, i compromised, I watched pure kino instead.
Ewww! Peyvought! 😂😂
I wanted a Sopranos sequel, I compromised and watched Pure Kino on UA-cam instead.
😂😂😂
Historically, Borko always said PureKino is nothing more than a glorified sopranos clips channel
Lmao
