i'm 25 years old and i grew up listening to rock bands influenced by my father. he gave me this U2 DVD back in 2002. i used to watch "Kite" countless times, used to rewind it and play it back on repeat. the whole show is great but this song is something else.. so good to come across this so many years later on. funny to realize that i used to sing "i'm a maaaaaan" out loud when i was actually a child. great one!!
Same story for me, but was a bit older than you. Didn't really get why my dad was always watching U2 at Slane Castle. Then one day, at around 19 years old I was passing through the living room and he was listening to it once again - I sat down just in time for the All I Want is You/Where the Streets Have No Name and was hooked from that moment. I still think it's probably the best transition between tracks in a live concert. The rest came like dominoes. Kite, Wake up Dead Man, etc... Kite has stuck as my favorite though. It got me through my wild 20s, where I finally met a wonderful woman I ended up marrying after 28 years of searching. I made her listen to this concert MANY times lol. Then into my 30s, where I sang Kite (lullaby version) to my children as babies and well into toddler age. Now I hope one day all this will go full circle and they will enjoy it with me, just like you did with your dad, just like I did with mine. Cheers!
I have watched this performance a billion times but this video for some reason bono sounds more raw during kite..you can feel it his pain for losing his dad that night
When you have a relative who has had an illness for so long, you often do a lot of the actual grieving and processing during the dying and caring process. When you're doing a multi million dollar concert too, it's difficult to pull out. Bono uses elements of this concert to dedicate songs to his father. Different people react differently to grief.
" All alone or in twos, the ones who really love you Walk up and down outside the wall Some hand in hand, some gather together in bands The bleeding hearts and the artists make their stand And when they've given you their all Some stagger and fall, after all it's not easy Banging your heart against some mad bugger's wall " - Pink Floyd
you have me crying now, so yes somebody knows how your feeling and hey what u feel is normal. If this song helps your bereavement then that's ok, Your not alone! Peace xx
This is also cut from Boston.. slightly different he ends with Wake Up Dead (shorter version)at the end with Walk On! I saw it live Nov 2001 best concert and bucket list ever!💙
I feel ya went through the same shit !!! but it does get easier somehow! Cry if ya Need ! KITE is for us all who lost someone dear to us !I had so much hatred and wanted revenge but something came over me ! KITE is for You And Me!!! Hang in there !!!! and Not afraid to Die Not Afraid to Live!
What is this song about, something bad happening to someone else? (Did you think to try and warn her?) About ten years ago, I dreamed about The Joshua Tree. And it had an additional song on it titled "Black And Blue Sky". (I'm pretty sure that came from my favorite song on the album, Bullet The Blue Sky.) It was about someone he loved leaving him, and he was asking the "black and blue sky" how to go on without her. (as if he was asking god how to go on without her) After I woke up, I immediately thought the song I dreamed about was like this one.
Miss Sarajevo is tired and needs to be put to rest. In Australia they did it on the vertigo and 360 tour and it was so out of place. City of Blinding Lights is a great track though. They did Kite in Australia on Vertigo tour and it was outstanding. Better than Slane Castle, and that's hard to beat.
This man sings with his heart and soul
Strong, ...
Powerful, ...
Keep believing in God, ...
I love this song. I sang this song at my Dad's wake after his funeral. It took everything I had to get through it, but I'm glad I did.
kite or wake up dead man?
Kite of course. Who is gonna sing “wake up dead man” at a funeral, lol
@@DJDanceClassic Well who knows it might work, worth a try at least, wont cost anything
At my funeral they are gonna play “me so horny”
Kite... Wow that soars... Beautiful.. 'The man who sees the shadow behind your eyes.. Who knows which way the wind blows. '

He had lost his dad Bob hewson days prior to this concert , dedicates kite to his dad.
WTF? HIS FATHER DIED AND NEXT DAY HE JUST GOES TO WORK? WHY DIDNT HE CALL IN SICK THIS HEARTLESS MAN!

Communication. Communication. Talk to each other.
I think his dad never told him about his cancer, it said that Bob Hewson was a “Emotionally reserved.” Person.

Great live cut of this song from Pop. Happy Birthday, Jesus. "would you put in a word for me" love it.
Edges falsetto. "Nice singing... "
00:00 Wake Up Dead Man
02:02 Stuck in a Moment You Can't Get Out Of (truncated)
04:06 Kite
They gotta give POP more love. Wake Up Dead Man is among my favorites on POP. It's so raw.

Kite is amazing
"Jesus...Jesus help me
I'm alone in this world
And a fucked-up world it is too" See you in Boston & NYC!
Such a creepy, fantastic snippet! Let's hope they bring it back in some form. And Kite....just one of the band's best lyrics!
Thanks for combining the songs in one video. They are my 2 favorite songs from the Slane Castle concert.
Banda inspiração, celebrem o amor a força mais poderosa do universo

This song is for his dad who died a few weeks before this concert, Bono and family buried him the day before this show.

Nothing changes on #NewYearsDay
Nie. Nie taka wersja
Would have loved to heard this last couple tours instead of shit like City of Blinding Lights and Mrs Fuckin Seriavo or however you spell it

His singing is pretty bad here.
