  • Heritage Park is Canada‘s largest history/railway museum. There’s about 127 acres of land that spans from the front gate to the settlement area in the 1820’s
Heritage Park’s steam train is one of the top attractions in the park. Steam locomotives 2024 and 2023 0-6-0 Switchers that were built for the US Army during World War II. The 2024 that you see in the video was built by Lima in the United States in 1944, originally numbered 4076, and 2023 was built by Alco also in the United States in 1942, originally numbered 4012. 4012 was originally built as a coal burner while 4076 has been an oil burner her entire life but, 4012 was converted to an oil burner in the late 1960’s when she was restored and modified and brought to Canada first service and Heritage Park to resemble Canadian steam locomotives that which are no longer here. And 4076 was also modified in the early 1970s when she was brought to Heritage Park to also resemble Canadian steam locomotives that which are no longer here. Although the engines themselves aren’t authentic in the sense they aren’t the original Canadian engines they do get maintained in a rather fancy dress because of the fact they are passenger locomotives.
The oldest locomotive that’s in the collection at Heritage Park is 2018, a third 0-6-0 Switcher 1905 in the Angus Shops in Montreal, Quebec for the Canadian Pacific, and then later Canmore Mines, it worked in Canmore, Alberta, before being moved to Heritage Park in the 1970’s, and it was decided to put a diesel engine in 2018, but because it isn’t very powerful, crews not to use her on the visitor train, The tend to use her around the yard for light shunting.
A Whitcomb diesel shunter nicknamed, “Lil Pat” built in 1952 might be available for use on the vistor train when the steam engines are out for servicing or are in need of some repairs, but because it is an industrial engine used around the yard for light shunting, crews tend to haul only 1 car at a time, because it isn’t equipped with dynamic brakes.
If you’re ever in the Calgary area of Alberta Canada, I highly recommend checking out Heritage Park!! Especially even if you’re from outside of Canada, It is a wonderful place for if you like steam or classic Alcos or vintage streetcars, or tractors, I think this park would be the perfect place for you!!!!
