It’s not as appealing if One has to listen to it hour after hour though. I have below par hearing and, l believe it is due to Screaming Detroits over time.
Thanks for sharing the twins ! I'm a M-F guy , But that Oliver is looking awesome ! But those GM diesels sound very stout !Thanks again for another nice family tractor story .
They are the same except sheet metal because MF had a fire that prevented them from making this size tractor so they bought from Oliver and Minneapolis Moline and put their sheet metal on. Harry Ferguson would have been livid if he had known. But really, he bought lots of things from other companies (Perkins and Continental come to mind) so this was just an extension of that way of making a product.
Hey Classic tractors, why are you inserting that irritating, annoying, cheesy background music? Let's just listen to the monologue and sound of the running engines.
The Massey 97 was the same as the MM G-704 front wheel assist the Massey 95 was rear wheel drive as was MMthe G-702 G-706 ect www.tractordata.com/farm-tractors/tractor-brands/minnmoline/minnmoline-tractors.html www.tractordata.com/farm-tractors/000/7/3/739-massey-ferguson-97-photos.html
Detroit drivers are hard of hearing. Wc, wd, and wd45 drivers have bad backs. Jd two cylinder drivers have bad right knee AND hard of hearing. Lol. All good tractors though.
@@leslieelm Motorcar, motorcycle, motorway, motorboat, motor oil, motorsports, motorcade, motorhome, motorpool, Motor Week, motorbike, Motor City, Department of Motor Vehicles, motocross, motor scooter, etc. It's blatantly obvious that "motor" has been used to refer to internal combustion engines for over a century. You're just being a pedantic twit.
You are Missing the Minneapolis Moline who actually made that Tractor I am pretty sure they made the Massey 95 and Massey 97 . Why do you say Big Motors ?? The GNC 3 -71 is 203 Cubic Inches … 71 Cubic Inches per cylinder ..
No the Massey 98 was an Oliver 990, made by Oliver. The Massey 95 (there never was a 96) was a Moline GBD. The Massey 95 Super was a Moline GVI. The Massey 97 was the same as a Moline G705 if it was 2 wheel drive, or a G706 if it was front wheel assist.
@@Oliver66FarmBoy I came ever so close to buying a G706 Diesel at an Oliver-MM close out auction in 1975. Sold for $1100. Nothing wrong with it, just many people were scared since White took over and this was in the middle of hilly Dairy country, something this tractor was ill suited for. Sure wish I had it now. The paint was faded but I bet the hood and fenders would have buffed out. The Dyna Brown, not so much.
Not really. The 95 was built from 1958-1961 in 2 wheel drive only and was a Moline GBD with a 63 horse 426 Moline motor. The Super 95 was built from 1961 to 1962 and was offered with an optional dealer installed Elwood front wheel assist. Same tractor as a Moline GVI with a 78 horse Moline 426ci Moline motor. The Model 97 was built from 1962-65 and was offered with an optional factory installed Cole front wheel assist. Same as a Moline G705/706 with a 108 horse 504ci Moline motor. Both tractors were available in 2WD or FWA. They were a series of tractors, they werent built at the same time.
71 x 3 =213 cubic inches. A lot of power from a small motor! A 3-71 detroit operating at the manufactures rpm of 2100 actually makes around 115 HP. Oliver reduced rpm to match the Waukesha motor so as not to screw up transmission gear ratios.
All Detroit engines need the rpm's ribbed up to pull. They are good engines , you just need to know how to make them go. Drove many of the different Diesel engines in trucks and tractors .
They worked very well if you knew how to run them. They were reliable for sure. Probably not the best choice in hindsight but to say they didn’t work well is wrong
Aint no diesel like the old gm 2 stroke they have a one of a kind sound that you can here a mile away.
Detroit diesels sound awesome! Especially in tractors
It’s not as appealing if One has to listen to it hour after hour though. I have below par hearing and, l believe it is due to Screaming Detroits over time.
Very good video! The Massey 98, is actually an Oliver 990 in its respective paint/sheet metal.

Love those Detroit powered oilvers and massys.
Screamming jimmy 👍☺🔥
very nice set!
Love From India
No Brasil a empresa CBT fabricou o Oliver990, e baseou toda uma linha de tratores nele. São até hoje reverenciados como os melhores tratores do Brasil
screaming Jimmys when you put them under load
Great video
That is cool
How recently was this filmed? Should have shown the barn FULL of narrow front john deeres
they never say on any of the vidoes when it was filmed sucks
Late 90's - early 2000's
It looked a little dated. The Mizers farmed my family's place till 99, we sold it to them and John built a house there.
Very nice!!
Very nice
correct HP 81 on drawbar /88 HP pto 😊😊 OMG 8 2O 2O23
Great video. They did a really nice job restoring them. But the 98 Massey was actually a twin to the 990 Oliver not the Super 99
I'm surprised they don't have 3 point linkage
They’re a “standard” tractor. They were made to pull, and that’s about it. Mostly big tillage equipment out in the fields in the Midwest.
U know a detroit comin
I m a tractor lover
353, or 371?
3-71
Fraternal twins rather identical twins.
Does anybody realize these are Detroit these are GM diesels?
520 ???

This has been debunked. Massey didn't buy these tractors because of fire. People keep repeating a rumor that's not true.

These are engines not motors. Motors have an outside power source.
I bet you're a real hit at parties.

They made more noise than real power. Cool to own but the 2 cycle never work well in tractors

Really? What made more hp, more torque, and more hp hours per gallon @ nebraska at the time?
