    PS: I came here from Rick’s video

    I really love the way you teach. And how you show the correct chords while explaining the choices the writer made. Even though I'm a beginner and lack the talent, I think the brain can pick up on that. I've always been a fan of Marvin Hamlisch. Still waiting for someone to show how to correctly play "The Way We Were" in the original key which I believe is A Major. I can think of many songs which don't yet have a good tutorial. BTW, I discovered you on Rick Beato's channel. I think you'll do well. Thanks and hope you get lots of subscribers.

      @@pierrejpiscitelli That would be excellent. The rest of the song is less composed as far as the piano part goes, I suppose. So I’d love to hear about your different approaches.

    Cool. I’ve restarted started taking jazz lessons. I came across your video and was able to pick it up rather quickly. Putting together the hands is a little tricky and will take me a little time too. If the beginners here find it frustrating then a trick would be to play the bass note only with the broken cords. That would be the simplified version. Cool video.

      Glad this was helpful- thanks for watching! Great tip regarding bass note only with the R.H. It’s tough to make a video that will satisfy all levels, but hopefully the variety of material that I will be putting out over the coming months will provide something for everyone! What are you working on in terms of jazz?

    • @dubasciver3234
      @dubasciver3234 Рік тому +1

      Basic 2,5, 1 progressions, working with guide tones, voicings, major minor third cycles, diminished chords and scales, pentatonic scales, Barry Harris 7, 6 movements. That kinda of thing. I’m putting energy into the theory as I can see how beneficial it is for especially jazz but for other kind of genres.

    Hey Pierre, this is awesome. On thing i have noticed watching Jon Cain over the years, is he'll switch up playing the single notes in the left hand, with playing octaves with the left hand. I've adopted that method as well.

    Great video. I learned this song from another YT channel a couple weeks ago, but I changed it up a bit by playing the left hand as an octave. IMHO, it adds more 'kick' to the song.

    Well it took a day and a half of practicing on an off but I got both hands together. One more day or two to make it smooth and consistent. Definitely not a beginner exercise. The trick is to learn independence of hands. That takes time to learn because your brain wants to play everything together on the downbeat.

    • @pierrejpiscitelli
      @pierrejpiscitelli  Рік тому +2

      Yes- the hands function together by way of learning how one links with the other. Through practice, a composite of “when this hand does X, this hand does Y…” is built, rather than attempting to think about two different things simultaneously!

    Very impressive work on Beato's channel, Pierre!
    As a latent guitarist, I found Rick in 2019, beginning as my guitar mentor, becoming my link to all things music and to many others musicians.
    After one year, my lifelong desire to play piano WELL, and to become a competent, all-around musician led to my investing in a fine electric piano in 2021.
    I haven't played one chord on it since!
    I just subbed to your channel to begin serious piano study.
    Don't go easy on me, Pierre!
    I relish the discipline.
    See ya on the channel.
    (Condolences that you lost a friend in Miles last year.😔🙏)
    P.S. Do you currently live in NYC?

      I've always prefered playing single notes in the bass because you can get closer to Ross Valory's bass groove.

    Idk, feeling pretty intimidated, but now i don't want any other song to be the first one i try and tackle, mostly due to the existence of super clear and comprehensive tutorial accompanied by you playing it exactly how i remember hearing it, aside from the one sharper sounding note in base at the end. Never noticed it before ig.

      Yes, it's just harder w/ octaves. If you have a bass player, doesn't matter all that much.

    Hey Pierre, Watching Rick B’s channel this morning brought yours to my attention. I’ve been looking for this kind of instruction for over a year. It’s exactly what I was hoping for. After wanting to learn to play my whole life, I finally started taking lessons at age 57. I’ve been learning for about a year now and piecing together video content to supplement my lessons, and this is a perfect addition. Congrats on your new channel. Keep em coming. I’m super interested in the music theory behind it all so any videos relating to that is welcomed as well.
