Excellent demo there Dale! I’ve never seen anyone make this set before just the sketches in books and articles. Looks like it would be a great set in dry weather like you were saying.
I was fortunate enough to have known Del Kramer. He was a great trapper and a good man. One advantage he told me about the post hole set was it kept magpies from stealing your bait. Even in his 80's Del was taking over 300 coyotes a season. Back in the 50's he was burying chunks of cedar posts as dead heads for anchoring his traps to at locations he used year after year long before the modern earth anchors came on the scene. His predator trapping 101 book is a treasure of information if you can find a copy.
Met I met Mr. Del sometime about 2002 I believe at the Western NRA Convention in Blackfoot Idaho. What fantastic man and a wealth of knowledge he was. I appreciate you watching and for the comment too
Minnesota Rancher. I like the looks of that for cow pastures. Never thought about a cow not wanting to step into a hole, but you sure are right about that. Great info.
I'm doing good Christopher. Just been dealing with some really crappy weather lately. 5 days of rain last week and terrible windy today. I had intentions of filming today but 40 mph winds shot that all to hell. Hopefully tomorrow we'll get something out. Thank you for checking in on me. I appreciate you
I have a copy of Mr Kramers book,he signed and dated it 12 1 03 and on page 29 he wrote I get lots of feedback on the quick catches made with this set Thankyou Dale for giving the older trappers credit great great video
@dannycraig2366 that's awesome Danny. I only had the chance to meet him once. He was a fine man to talk to and I'm glad I had the opportunity. Thank you for watching and sharing too
@@billingsleybrandtrappinglu1531 I have learned something from every one of your videos. I can’t wait until fur is prime here to implement. I trap 150,000 private acres here in western SD. If you had interest in doing some content up here I would love to host you!
Believe it or not we used to catch fox like this when we were kids but put the bait under the trap. All three of these ways are better. Very good video, good info.
A good different outlook for making the set . Thinking that for a 5 ft chain . Instead of stake it in the hole. Could you stake it on the outside of hole and run the chain into the hole like you did with the drag?
St. Claire I switch back and forth through the day between Stokers long cut straight and their Big Duke. I chewed Red Man for years but at $16 a package here in Iowa I quit it and now go to Missouri and buy the others. It's a crying shame, I mean even the communist can still smoke. Thank you for watching.
Those fellers that claim to have invented that set are full of $h!T ......... I did ! 🤣 I wish these younger fellers would just buy several of the ol' paper books and enjoy them !!!
Amen Otter Cat!! If they'd just go back in history and study a bit they'd find out that a lot of what they think is new was being done in the 40s and 50s by a breed of men we've not seen since. I appreciate you watching and for being a friend too pal
Damn. Learning a lot from you. You show sets I’ve never even imagined. Great stuff and thanks again.
I'm glad you like them Christopher. Thank you for watching them

@ShadrachHowie I would love to come up there in the future. Thank you for the offer. I very much appreciate it
Giving that set a try, thanks again.
Thank you Mike. I appreciate you taking the time to watch these videos
Believe it or not we used to catch fox like this when we were kids but put the bait under the trap. All three of these ways are better. Very good video, good info.
The old buried bait set Steve. Yes this set is a bit better. Thank you for watching. See ya soon buddy
Great lookin set!
Does it work in the snow!
Thank you
Yes Robert itl work in the snow
Great set. Ain't worth a damn in the snow unfortunately. Great video Dale, thanks
That's right 406. In deep snow or a lot of rain it's no good
@@billingsleybrandtrappinglu1531 appreciate you Dale.
The comment about wind direction is way important. And many miss that part.
Wind direction is very important with any set big buds. Thank you for watching
Oh I like that set. Is the hole depth the same in all three sets? Thanks for sharing.
Yes it is Streeter Boyz. Around that 6-8 inches deep
Your DP's should be there friday !
@ottercat8527 sounds good ottercat thanks.
Could you use a two trap setup with this set
You could Jim I personally have never seen the need for 2 but it's not going to hurt anything. Thank you for watching
Hey Dale in the first set would you blend it in ? Or just cover with dirt?
Just cover it Chase. You want it to look as if it was dug also.
That's a good lookin set right there
Thank you Jeffrey. I appreciate you watching too
Hey I believe I was wrong about E.J. Daily using this set. I was thinking about the buryed bait set. Have a blessed day.
Oh I see Alvin. Well thank you for clarifying that. You do the same
I like this set. A guy could pre dig. Place your earth anchor and use it from yr to yr. That would be a quick set up.
Yes you sure can Jay. Thank you for watching. Hope to see you in a few weeks
A good different outlook for making the set . Thinking that for a 5 ft chain . Instead of stake it in the hole. Could you stake it on the outside of hole and run the chain into the hole like you did with the drag?
Yes you could do that Paul. Thank you for watching
Almost looks like a tire set the last way you showed it?
Yea Steve the only difference is that you don't have to drag a truck load of tires around.
Hey Dale. What ya chewing? Im a good money twist man myself.🤪

I here you. Do you think a cable restraint with a 350 pound break away will hold beaver and otter?
@st.claire1411 yes it will. No problem
Thanks Dale. Snared beaver in water but never a otter and never on land. Thank for sharing your experience.
@st.claire1411 you're welcome. Thank you for watching these videos. I appreciate you
how does this work on cats ?
It's not a car set Dan. Grey Fox it's fantastic. Thank you for watching
E. J. Daily had that in his book
That could be Alvin I've never read EJ's book. I know the first time I saw it was in Del Kramer's book. I appreciate you watching. Thank you
