    50 amp breaker is not a hard requirement. I ran mine on a 30A breaker up to over 180 amps, and never had a problem. I can't imagine a scenario where I would need to crank this machine all the way up to its limit. I get more frustrated with it not going low enough to weld thin material.

    Once you sort out the aluminum issue with the yesweld 250 you will be set. Hope they can give you some customer service help on the phone so you can try out what advertised they give while they talk you through it. Your really fortunate they send this stuff. I sure could have used one during some of the building of my locost. Just had to get a buddy to do it with his tig machine.
    Keep practicing I’m sure you will get it figured out.

    You are very fortunate to be sent a yes welder to do a review on, from what i saw it seemed to be a good welder for thicker metal, not so much for thin gauge or aluminum, good video, thanks for sharing

    The more I watch people mig welding the more I appreciate the old stick type welding. Have welded steel, castiron, and aluminium with less issues. Select right rod and amp setting for metal being used. You'll enjoy stick and it's simplicity.

    • @RC-Heli835

      With a heavy enough mig you can do in one day what it would take 3 days with a stick. One time a huge rock fell out of the bucket as a Komatsu PC 220 swung it around to dump it. It rolled down the hill and hit the top of the tracks so hard that it bent the 3 inch square idler wheel bracket over about 45 degrees.
      So one morning back at the shop the hoe was needed somewhere and we loosened the track and jacked it up off the idler. I then cut the 3 inch square bracket just nearly all the way off but left enough to where with it glowing red it would stand on its own once it was bent back strait up. I ended up notching a V in the thing about 2.5 inches with a torch and in a couple hours with a Millermatic 250x I had that entire thing filled up and they loaded it on the lowboy and took it away.

    I have seen people mig weld aluminum with a spool gun, I went out and bought a $500. spool gun wrecked a dozen tips and never got a weld. Tig is the only option for me.

      If this machine can tig aluminum, I'll definitely be trying that.

  • @RC-Heli835
    @RC-Heli835 2 роки тому +1

    How did you have the polarity set for the aluminum Scott? Someone else said the manual was wrong and quickly tried the other way. He was getting smoked up dark globs of messy looking welds before switching polarity.
    I have never in my life been so embarrassed as the day a guy brought me an aluminum 4 wheeler muffler at the recommendation of my daughter.
    I had gotten good at Tig welding stainless at the shop and was like ya bring it on I have some aluminum rods.
    Then I didn't understand how clean aluminum has to be to weld it and without cutting the silencer completely in half there was no possible way to clean all the soot out of it. Needles to say it didn't weld at all worth a darn no matter what I tried. If I had it over to do again I'd saw it in half so I could clean the inside. Part of me still don't know if it would work on a soot filled dirty muffler.

    • @ScottRods
      @ScottRods  2 роки тому

      Yes, I did change the polarity which helped. I just need a lot of practice.

      If you set your voltage for plate thickness and turn the wire feed up higher to where its pushing the gun away then start backing off the wire speed until it settles down to a nice spray arc.
      Also I like the pull ahead and wait for the puddle to fill out gun manipulation.

I never got any freebees to test, I always had friends that worked at Miller Electric so they were able to get me discounts and I was always able to test welding equipment at local technical college. Sorry I didn't see this a year ago. ALL MIG WELDING IS ELECTRODE POSITIVE. THE WORK CLAMP IS NEGATIVE. You reverse this for flux core. FLUX CORE IS NOT MIG. I'm cracking myself up. Go to Miller MIG settings calculator. Just Google it. It will say not recommended, but it will give you spray arch setting. MIG welding aluminum has a hissing sound because it's a spray transfer. Most people try to weld it with too short of a wire stick out. It burns back to the tip and clogs it, the birds nests at the drive rolls. I taught myself to MIG aluminum in the 80s with a Lincoln SP100 110 volt MIG welder. I repaired VW transmission cases for a transmission shop. Roughly 5 a week. Try 3/16 material, 23 volts, 425 inches per minute, then go up or down on the wire from there. Push the wire and have 3/4 inch stick out. I hope that helps.

    • @messybench
      @messybench 9 місяців тому

      Also flux core needs twice as much stickout as MIG. it's not a short arc like mig. It needs space for the flux to release and shield the weld. Go slow, keep a long stickout (wire length), and drag the the wire. If it slags, it drags.
