      Exactly. I've seen such beautiful cakes for a decent price considering the time, effort and ingredients put into or on top of it and people are just like "that's way too much for that cake"
      Lots of people don't think about how they need to make a profit to continue to make the cakes and also be able to live their lives. I'd definitely be willing to pay $75 for a cake of that size with that beautiful work put into it and I'd be happy to do so.

      Some cakes and fillings cost more, some can be bought some are made from scratch and take a day to make.
      I don't think it's a 1 size fits all, I think many things go into play.
      Is it gonna be 2 layers or 4.
      What kind of cake board is it on, will if fit into a box, or are you custom making one?
      Have a base price for a simple heart cake, and go from there.
      And don't forget to include your time, it's worth something too.
      Also keep in mind as you get better, you'll get faster, so your time will also have to reflect your quality of work...

When people say that cakes are too expensive, I always remind them why they are hiring a professional to bake and decorate their cake rather than just doing it at home. I think if more people attempted to make fancy cakes like this, they would realize just how much time and effort it takes into building the skills to be able to make them.

Are people seriously not understanding a single pack of something like butter with four sticks can cost anywhere between 3(if very lucky), to 6 dollars. Before you comment about prices why not check your store and look at the prices of items used in making cake or buttercream. It’s not as cheap as some seem to think currently.

    • @babymama406
      @babymama406 Рік тому +8

      True. I live in a rural area and $35-45 would be reasonable….maybe even a little pricey for the specific cake she made in this video today. (Small, no special decorations, fondant, topper, flowers, etc….just a plain cake with icing.). But I know in other places it would be worth what she’s charging. Truly, it completely depends on where you live and how much demand there is for stuff like this. Personally, I don’t pay more than $30 for a cake of this size with nothing special about it. Like a special flavor, filling, or decorations. Basically, if I can make it myself with no problem, I’m not gonna pay that much money for it. But if it’s something special, difficult, big, or needs real talent (like sugar flowers or some fancy icing work), then I’d be willing to pay more.

    • @gurltalk
      @gurltalk Рік тому +1

      Nawwwww, I'm in the Midwest and would charge , $90 for this cake. It takes money to buy what you need especially if you don't have material on hand including the cake board and box you package it in. Folk never want to include that part. Ingredients and material to bake from scratch could be about $25 for this cake. It also depends on the size they want. The bigger the cake, the more ingredients it takes. The butter just to make the buttercream from scratch is not cheap. She then has to pay herself for time and labor which is per hour. She doesn't wanna make $5/hour. She wants to make $15-$20/hour like a lot of other people working make then she also needs to make a profit as well. Y'all want people to make crumbs and only charge y'all for the ingredients and material. It's not worth it if that's the case.

    • @babymama406
      @babymama406 Рік тому

      @@gurltalk I see that and I understand. It’s not that I think her cakes aren’t worth that much because you’re right, it would cost $30 or more to make. And you’re right that if she only charged what we view as reasonable, it wouldn’t be worth it for her. I’m just saying for me, personally (I don’t have a lot of disposable income) I wouldn’t want to pay that much for something I can do myself. That’s why I need it to be something I can’t do easily myself either filling or decorating-wise. That doesn’t mean I think her prices are unfair or that she’s charging too much, just that it’s too much for me personally. I also don’t hire people to paint my house or any walls. It’s expensive and I can do it myself. It doesn’t mean I think there shouldn’t be painters, it just means I personally won’t be their customer. You can agree that something is worth a certain price and still not be willing to pay that much.

      Being two separate market segments and demographics; a person who orders cakes from Walmart typically would opt for quantity over quality. There’s a good chance they’ve never ordered a cake that hasn’t been mass produced, frozen / thawed, and would see no reason to even go to a “real” bakery or cake maker.
      Point being; a small business cake maker would have more success aiming for clientele who are in a higher income bracket that can afford quality vs quantity. The client would care more about taste than price, etc

      For me, the "quality" does not seem to be much different than a Wal Mart cake. That is why I am asking... what makes her cakes better than what I can get at the grocery stores?
      If 2 businesses are selling the "same thing"... should one count out potential customers under the assumption that the customer who purchases from the other business probably wouldn't want to spend or couldn't afford their product? Sorry but that cake is not worth $75. I would pay no more than $50.

    I made a rainbow 8inch heart lace cake that honestly looked better than this for $24 where I work in a bakery. Honestly mine looked better and I gurentee I made it a lot lot faster.

    Please charge more, it’s your effort and time that cost, the cost of living is ridiculous currently and that deserves you charging higher prices, that cake is worth more honestly❤

    You're not only paying for the ingredients your paying for the time it took, the effort and the talent.

    $45??? i've never worked in cake making stuff but you were underselling!!! definitely!! learning how to pipe frosting and decorate in a consistent manner takes practice, and you do it well! i'm glad to hear you've upped the price, truly.
