The Dakar Rally, started in 1978, is annual event organized by ‘Amaury Sport Organization’. Initially it happened from Paris to Dakar, later the events were held in South America. From 2020 to 2023, the rally has been held in Saudi Arabia. The vehicles used are true off-road vehicles and motorcycles. In the true off-road endurance test, they have to cross dunes, mud, camel grass, rocks and erg. The five competitive groups in the Dakar are the motorcycles, quads, the cars, UTVs, and the trucks class.
In this Episode, we head to the Masturah Dunes to follow the Dakar Rally, held in Saudi Arabia in 2021. We start out early in the morning, and reach the dunes. We played around on the dunes a bit, with our FJ Cruiser. Then, we go meet our friends who had camped there on the previous night. Waiting there for us is a cute Husky! After a while, a helicopter swoops over the camp. He was greeting one of his friends who were camping there. We head to a nice dune to watch the Rally. Soon, we begin to see the vehicles. We saw some bikes at first, then the bigger vehicles come rolling in. The first truck to reach us is Number 501 (Team Kamaz), who went on to get 2nd place overall in the Truck category. After a while, we go a bit higher up the dune, so that we could see further away. We went around the dune, and came across a driver who had stopped. Their engine had overheated, so they changed the coolant. It was very interesting to see how they handle such situations in the field. After that, it's time to head home.
