Best explanation ever for " a valediction : Forbidding mourning " poem written by John Donne. Thanks for explaining, this makes easier for me to understand what the theme of the poem & what the poet wants to say in the poem .
Big thumps up for your explanation 👍👍
Jitni khubsurti se john donne poems likhte the utni hi sundarta se aapne ye poem explain ki hai
Thanks for providing a very good explanation.
I think, In this poem, poet John Donne wants to say to his lover that there love is different from the love of others. Even if they are getting separated, they must not feel sad about it. He compared themselves with different objects such as compass, planets, great men etc. This also shows us the vast knowledge of poet, something which metaphysical poets were very fond of using in their poets.
Some critics like Dr Johnson have criticized it by calling it 'bringing different ideas together by yoke of violence'.
But TS Eliot appreciates it . Eliot in his essay on Metaphysical poets, use the phrase of 'Unification of Sensibility' to appreciate Metaphysical poetry.
