Sebastian Fitzptraick If all drugs were legalised, and thus regulated, the dangers would be much less. If misused, anything can be dangerous. Alcohol is the most dangerous recreational drug in existence, but would be far more lethal if it was illegal - people are often made blind from drinking unregulated made alcohol. Heroin is the least lethal drug on its own.

Gawain Davies this is just heartbreaking. He clearly had pneumonia here, heroin does some really serious lung damage anyway. You can kind of see here that he knows in his head he’s not up to it, but his heart and spirit are still full of hope, he certainly didn’t want to be dying anytime soon. It’s just a shame that someone didn’t drag him off to a hospital right then and there and pump him full of antibiotics..they might have saved him, but maybe not. His body was clearly failing him here, so perhaps it was too late already and the damage was done.
Lizzy were amazing and he was the perfect, charismatic front man. I was privileged to see them perform at Dundee Caird Hall in the early days, Can't begin to describe how good they were on stage. Everything just worked.

A tragic loss maybe, but it's what you produce with your life that matters. The music Thin Lizzy produced is pure rock, and utterly timeless. A goddam legend!!
+FreedomZealot Same. Heroin is such an evil drug. It's taken Phil, Layne Staley of Alice in Chains, Kurt Cobain from Nirvana and countless other wonderful singers and musicians. It's a shame. I grew up in Springfield Missouri and was age 8 in 1976 when Boys Are Back came out. My mom had killer taste in music and took me to see 3 Dog Night when I was 9 ( my dad wouldnt go ) and her friends were all the band members of Ozark Mtn Daredevils whom she grew up with in S.M. so we always had great rock playing in the MG convertible on 8 track or the house stereo. 1976 was a great time to be in your 30s with this type of music culture. Even I in the center of rural Midwest kids my age knew who this band was and all the radios played this nonstop. Loved this song. What we would call: Real Rock. So sorry to learn he passed so soon after this interview and never maybe knew how huge he really was, so humble and down to earth as evident in this video. Aloha Phil Lynott.

A movie about his life would be great. A thorn in the side of the catholic church. One of only a handful of biracial children in Ireland at the time. How the church wanted to give him away as a baby but his mother fought them. Going on to be The Rocker. If I had the money I´d produce it myself.
Only black man in Ireland? What are you talking about? And he was born in England, where's this Church wanting to give him away crap? He has described his childhood as happy. Any movie made by you about Phil would be pure fiction.
ok. Who were the other black men in Ireland in the 60´s? True he was born in England but he lived in Ireland from the age of four. Have you heard is accent? His Mother described the problems she had with the nuns when Phil was born. I don´t know what part of that is "fiction".
Oh right, is that what makes you like Phil Lynott, the fact that he is a halfcast? I'd want to see a film about Phil Lynott's love of music and becoming a rockstar and his downfall with his addiction. I've heard enough about racism I'm getting sick and tired of people talking about it. For people who hate racism and don't see colour, I notice alot of people in Ireland like to suck up to black people. People are so full of shit.

I was lucky enough to meet him backstage at the Hammersmith Apollo in '83. Gave me a signed copy of his book of lyrics & poetry (still got it). I think both of us being followers of M/Cr United didn't go amiss? Loved the guy. Huge fan of the band from the early 70's to date. His lyrics compare to anyone - period. Still think his passing was such a sad loss.
Philip was an honest, humble, generous and caring man as well as an amazing musician. Only the good die young, drugs are poison. Ireland misses you man ❤️ 🇮🇪
Sebastian Fitzptraick
If all drugs were legalised, and thus regulated, the dangers would be much less. If misused, anything can be dangerous. Alcohol is the most dangerous recreational drug in existence, but would be far more lethal if it was illegal - people are often made blind from drinking unregulated made alcohol.
Heroin is the least lethal drug on its own.
@@brianjones3191 Sorry man but heroine is always gonna ruin your life even if it's legal or not.
@@brianjones3191 My neighbour was the lead singer of a well known Australian band. He told me the music industry is awash with alcohol and drugs. I suppose one will eventually get you.dead.
Phil Lynott was a legend. His music will live on forever. RIP Philo.
Phil was the best have all the thin lizzy albums always loved thin lizzy listening from the 70s and still listening today
Sorry, the man was three weeks from multiple organ failure, pneumonia, and eventually death. He was not well. I still get teary eyed watching this clip...I only hope he realized the musical impact he had on a great many of us.
Tiernan S. but bless his heart, he knew it, you can see it in his eyes, but he was still full of hope. I think he knew that the train had left the station, but that wasn’t going to stop him from trying to run after it and jump on..who knows, time may have been a little kinder to him, and he may have made it.
He looked ok in this interview I can’t believe he was gone in three weeks.
@@Guitar387 He looked okay most of the time, but if you watch closely you'll catch a few times when he really just looks defeated. He had too much class to just let it show, but he probably wasn't feeling well at all.
@@Guitar387 he is NOT ok in this video. Listen to him!!!
Love you Phil Lynott. You inspired my musical life in a lovely way and still continue to do so!
"I'd like to get a solo career first before I, you know, live off past glories."
A damn shame for us this never happened. What a great artist.
He seems very genuine and sincere too. Like a great guy.
What a sad loss to the music industry, and music fans globally. A humble genius.
What a wonderful man. You are missed Phil 😢
Such a nice talking voice as well as a good singing voice.
When creativity meets heroin, heroin is always going to win. Except there are no winners really are there. As Phil said on Got To Give It Up "Now and then I powder my nose. Oh I think I've lost control, mamma I'm coming home". Drugs suck.
It was alcohol that led to his kidney failure not heroin.
He died from drinking too much then? he was an alcoholic?
Sceptasemia I heard
It was more than alcohol that led to his demise, he was doing hard stuff for awhile, a good night's sleep does not get rid of the damage
Keef won it over but then nothing kills Keef!
Lovely man, such a tragedy ! First band I ever saw live in 1975 on the 'The Fighting' tour. An amazing experience and something I've never forgotten. Superb frontman !
A tragic loss maybe, but it's what you produce with your life that matters. The music Thin Lizzy produced is pure rock, and utterly timeless. A goddam legend!!
Jesus Christ is the meaning of life. And all that matters. What we do here is all vanity.
@@everykneeshallbow then get the fuck out fuckhead
I miss that guy every damn day.
magnetic!
+FreedomZealot Same. Heroin is such an evil drug. It's taken Phil, Layne Staley of Alice in Chains, Kurt Cobain from Nirvana and countless other wonderful singers and musicians. It's a shame. I love Thin Lizzy and I was born in 1994. I still don't understand why they didn't make it bigger in the States. They were on the same level of Rainbow, Deep Purple, Alice Cooper, KISS, but they had a different, unique sound and it's just one of rocks' unknowns.
+Michael M there definitely to underrated, i was born 2002 and not a single person at my school knows of them. There to busy listening to mainstream rap or new emo bands
+rory cannon yes they were really Good ,i was 12 when i first heard them and they blew me away with the jailbreak album , then i discovered all there great music thin Lizzy are Nothin but Phenomal, and Underated,,,
will now he's snorting cocaine with Jesus and the and Robin Williams
So sad. I wish he was still with us. Lizzy got me into playing guitar. And I always love them for that. Rip philo.
Phil's voice
Phil Lynott had more talent than all of those other cheese dicked metal bands that came along .Why this band never got the recognition it deserves is beyond me
Brian Matheney its still my favorite
Why thin Liszt didn't get the recognition they deserved? They did....do your homework
Phil was only 33 when Lizzy disbanded, it seems just as they were really getting super great with Sykes on board...I always wonder why it stopped there
They did at the time, l was a teenager then and they were huge.
@@picassoboy52 I have. They didn't get enough recognition in the US. Classic rock radio is stuck on only a couple songs
Great to see people still commenting every week on this video that was posted in 2006! Such a shame no one noticed that he was clearly already battling pneumonia in this film. Never got to see my hero in the flesh! Born 4 years later...
+Harry Fox
He is struggling to breathe. You can actually tell there is fluid in his lungs.
+popmarter Good call there but also Mark Putterford's book (Philip Lynott: The Rocker) is excellent in its detail and writing style
Met Phil a few times he was a gentleman gave me his poetry book a song for while I'm away he signed it to me as did Scott. And the 2 Brian's so sad he ended up the way he did heroin took his life his family and took the GREATEST talent ever to come out of Ireland from us his fans 😥
Thin Lizzy and Phil was and is really big in Europe and they erected a statue of him in Dublin in 2005.
@@Bone74838 OH..thats really great to hear!!
Nickleback should watch this interview to see what a rock star is. Then go home and throw their instruments in the garbage.
this is one funny comment... lmfao
If this comment was posted on Reddit, You would get gold. Could'nt agree more!
Too funny, and true, lol.
Yeah thats right
Maybe you shouldn't pay any attention to " nickleback " does that make any " cents "
Proud to be able to call you a fellow Irishman, you were an absolute credit to yourself and your family Rip phil never will you be forgotten .
You can tell he is struggling with his breathing. A week later he would be found by his mom collapsed and died on January 4th 1986.
rest in peace Philip Lynott.............the music you created will live on forever...........god bless you brother.............wild one.
What a man. 'Whisky in the jar' is one of my favourite tunes ever. Everything about it is perfect but Phils voice in that track is near perfection
Simplesmente um gênio, ate hoje choro a partida desse musico genial!
I agree, the river of garbage is still flowing and shows no sign of ending :( class like Phil will live forever and be remembered forever too :) God bless him....
I never really knew when he was born (just realized this), he was born on my mom's birthday (: (Trying to look at a happier time for Phil). It's so sad this great man (and I love Irish accents, loved hearing him speak ((: ) had to leave us so young and so soon. RIP Phil, you are loved, admired and missed by so many people in this world...and I'm one of them!!
Wow. He keeps talking of plans for January. Little did he know he was gonna die in January. Sad. RIP Phil.
The fact that he collapsed on Christmas day too is very depressing

I think he knew he was done. You can see it in his eyes. I love him so much still. 💔
The true nobility of rock. Just talent with no ego
Phil lynott was the greatest and thin lizzy are still the greatest rock band. Black rose in my opinion is there best album with the toughest street in town my favourite song. That said every album is awsum and I still play them weekly. Phill you live on in us all still...thankyou for your music...R.I.P
One of the most under appreciated artists of my time. Phil was the songwriter, orchestrator , vocalist, bass player, and band leader. Lizzy was so much more the Boys are back in town. Kickass rock and roll band, but could be as soft and melodic as can be. R.I.P. Phil
Humble man.. Phil will never be forgotten
Makes me so sad, the best entertainer I ever saw. You are a legend Phil and I still miss you.
I never met Phil , but I would've said "Vagabond of the western world" is my favorite song of all time 😊
Thank you for writing and recording it 🙂
I've listened to it no less than 20k times, no exaggeration.
Wow. That's at least once a day for the past 47 years since it was released.
Phil was a great musician and song writer. Great frontman as well. It's hard to believe that it's been 27 years since his passing...R.I.P. Phil,Thank You for all of the great music and memories....
Very smart man and talented. Sad he's no longer with us.
I miss this man and his talents so much. He was a MAJOR part of the soundtrack to my life.
a gent and fantastic entertainer..forget the drugs ..elvis the beatles bee gees all on it....remember the legend...not his illness
Very true,Linda. That list is very long ! So right..admire the genius in him when he wrote songs & played his music.
moronic comments from swiss-cheese brained tabloid readers
Who the F..needs tabloids, when you were there and saw some of them use stuff?? Just saying, Phil wasn't the ONLY one...and he WAS a genius when it comes to his guitar & music.
I remember both, there is a price to pay to play.
You were going well there till u mentiioned the Bee Gees :)
I wish that someone could have saved this Beautiful life 💔💔💔💔Such a tragedy ❤️❤️❤️❤️
A movie about his life would be great. A thorn in the side of the catholic church. One of only a handful of biracial children in Ireland at the time. How the church wanted to give him away as a baby but his mother fought them. Going on to be The Rocker. If I had the money I´d produce it myself.
Yes that would be an awesome movie.
Is that what makes me like Phil Lynott? eh, no. It would all add up to the makings of a great movie is what I was saying.
love this man,,what a rocker he was.
I wish i could give him a hug, love you Phil!!!!
That man will never be dead to me... Rip Phil.. A true legend sir.
What a lovely guy.
Love your comment!! I could'nt have said it any better than you did. I feel EXACTLY the same way. When I see Phil, all I see is one extremely talented musician, period!! If I enjoy a bands music, I don't care what color they are. Phil was an amazing musician. And I have heard and read many articles that say he was one of the nicest guys you could ever meet. It is so sad that he died so young!! Always been a fan of Thin Lizzy and guess I always will be. R.I.P Phil!! You are truly missed. :((
Phil Lynott will never be forgotten, and his music is immortal!
Heartbreaking ... Phil, you are sorely missed ... hard to see him unwell in this interview
Phil was Irish.
He always said he was.
