    Thank you for this great review, Lana.
    I don't really bother for a special pencil, especially not for faber-castel. And now I know what you told me...
    I've always used the pencil that was close by hand and still now but most of the times those are relative soft. Only for technical use the hard ones are needed and my eldest brother had those.
    It's so great to hear you explain all the ins and outs while you comfortly draw a little birdie. I love that. Oh, and yes, the cap... Most of the times now I use a mechanical pencil, but when I have a Conté, I take a Bic cap and scrrrrrrrrrrew it on top of it (it's not easy, but it works for me).

      Thank you for the kind comment! I too use the same ones for decades really and only buy singles to replace the hardnesses I used up. But this time I was just curious about this one (and the ones from next video).
      The Bic cap is an awesome idea! I didn't even think of that. The pencils I bring on journey are mechanical too, so they don't need a cap. I guess the cap is a solution for a problem we have already solved for ourselves. ;)

    I don't like the sharpener either. It has the same problem that the other Faber-Castell sharpeners had: dull blades on flimsy plastic. Don't get me wrong there are good plastic housed sharpeners, but FC seems to make their walls too thin in my opinion. And yes I also think it meant for school/office supply and not drawing.
    I would suggest to stay with the proven method of a sharpener with housing that collects the trash and just one of the eraser pencil caps, KUM for example makes both that are often from recycled materials and for the caps there is also one from FC themself.
    Anyway, thank you Lana for giving us a small look at this pencil set.

      That's a good point. I have a small full metal standard sharpener in another set from FC and it seems to work just fine. My favourite is a small brass sharpener for a long point and a bigger M+R one for the desk, where I can shange the point. Very useful and both are holding up for years now.
      I don't mind not having a housing or something to collect the trash, just need it to sharpen smoothly and well without breaking the lead.
      If the cap sharpener was actually sharp as other sharpeners can be, it would be sooo handy.

    I really like pencils, but just can't figure out the hardnesses, I know it technically, but I work the same with hard and soft. To me this pencil seems very full of itself mostly, but I have not tried it, so,no fair judgement.

      Yeah, but the harder pencils aren't as dark on paper, so I feel like I need the soft ones to get the really nice dark values. The pencils I have always have a jump between the hardnesses I use. Like 2H, HB, 2B, 4B, 6B etc. But I don't use all of them for regular sketching, only when I want a piece to look nice. The "perfect pencil" indeed promises more than it can deliver. The most handy thing is the cap, but only when you carry the pencil around.

    Hi Lana! Isn’t there a version of this pencil with a silver plated cap?

    • @LanaGoesArt
      @LanaGoesArt 2 роки тому

      Hi! Maybe, there are versions for up to 200€ that I've seen in stationary shops, but I'm not sure it would be worth it for me tbh.

      @@LanaGoesArt €200 is a lot for a pencil… or a pen, come to think of it, even if it’s silver plated. Silver is actually not that expensive. €200 would get you about 1/3 of a kilo of genuine silver, not just a pencil cap.

      @@awatercolourist I've looked it up, they go up to 420€ with silver, rose gold or platin covered caps and the expensive ones come in 2 sizes (the Magnum a bit thicker and a 4B lead). They look pretty. I think most of the prise is the design and the exclusivity you buy. It's a luxury item to accompany very expensive pens/ fountain pens. I don't think they are intended for art, as they'd be used up pretty quickly.
