- University of Michigan professor John Jonides shares his findings that show one can train their brain and increase short-term memory.
Here are the links to the n-back tests mentioned in the video.

More scientific credibility for the one type of brain training task that can both be called "game" and help boost fluid intelligence. Great report.
fluid intelligence is IQ,,,, it is also about logic, analysis, creative thinking etc.
Note how he says fluid intelligence, which is only one of the many components of intelligence.
Omarolobe - we added the links to the games in the description above.
Have played this game everyday for 10 months, 20 mins a day and the whole point of the game is to play it intuitively without using chunking techniques, I have managed to reach 8 back with a maximum score of 75% without chunking, The one effect I experienced was that I had by far better dream recall ,other than that I have experienced absolutely no other noiceable effect, my short term and long term memory is still pretty poor, my verbal skills are still the same, my already decent mathematical ability is still the same.IMO its not worth it and it is excruciatingly boring.
It would be interesting to know which test or games can increase the brain power...
so did u get the review on lumosity ?.... i was thinking to choose a plan in that website ... wat say ?.... or the free sources are good?
Armis would love to fund a study to determine if the game improves brain function, memory, and or actual intelligence. Do you perform such studies?
@IPKMB This works on adult brains as well
Does anyone know if the benefits only accrue if you play the game intuitively? I tend to remember the events as a string of digits (assign each positions/sound/etc a number) but I wonder if it diminishes the cognitive effects.
@Poloniaas Perhaps. But he sees the same gain in adults.
I've been training with the n-back for an year now and honestly,. not sure if it did anything to my Gf.
@Happyascanbe1 It's not an actually brain it's just a method for displaying fMRI data. The subjects brain isn't shaped like that.
boost memory
4 back yea
The most recent experiment by university of michigan with Detroit kids is unfortunately not all that convincing. Couldn't it be that those students who experienced larger gains with the n-back task are going through a grow spurt in intelligence? Looks more like correlation than causation.
htThis study tries to replicate the n-back study independently and finds no transfer to fluid intelligence.
Google Chooi 2011 dual n-back(for some reason I cannot attach links to this site)
Need motivation!!!!
what about with adults who forget a persons name 2 seconds after hearing it ^_-
'the only game to be "scientifically" proven to increase fluid intelligence is dual n-back. '
I this video, the professor states (at the end) that single n-back is JUST AS effective as duale n-back training.
the only game to be "scientifically" proven to increase fluid intelligence is dual n-back. You can in fact download n-back for FREE online. Don't buy or play lumosity unless it's n-back. Its a waste of time and money imho.
LOL!!
Fluid intelligence is basically genetic/heritable/innate/immutable and we should be highly skeptical of any claims of increasing it. THis is like someone saying that they increased someone's average height from5'1 to 6'1. In other words, its very hard to imagine. Although the UMich people claim they have proven fluid intelligence can be improved with dual n-back, other studies have tried to replicate this and have null results.
