Easy on the little, I maybe little but I pack a big punch 😛 How comes you made the change from PE to FE Martyn? Prefer the Azure blue over the Deep Orange colour? Thanks for watching and commenting, all the best!
Hi matey, thanks for the reply. Sorry about the “little”, just teasing.😜 Listening to you asking why people would swap from a MK8 ST to one of the Editions. Well I originally bought a 68 plate ST2 in white. I insisted they put the ST3 rims and red callipers on, that was a deal breaker for me, hate those 17” rims.🤢I kept the ST2 for just 15 months, although I loved the car, my son who then worked at Ford sorted me a PE for just over 23k, and although I was in negative equity I just couldn’t resist the 🍊🤷♂️. I envisaged myself keeping the 🍊indefinitely, but then the Edition arrived!🙄To be honest I love the orange more than the blue, but the deal was just too hard to resist. Due to the hike in used car prices I could have actually recouped over 24 1/2 k, that was back in September when prices were at their highest, unfortunately the 💙didn’t arrive until last week!😂😂 To be fair to TC Harrison at Derby they honoured their valuation from back in October, which meant I got the Edition with just the equity in my PE for the deposit, and I’m now paying £260pm compared to the £340pm on my 🍊Don’t get me wrong, if I could have bought a new PE then I would have, but I’ve got to say the more I catch sight of the Edition the more I love the colour. And for some reason, maybe the coilovers are set up slightly differently, I’m finding the ride a bit smoother.🤔Maybe that’s just in my head?🤷♂️
RE: i20N, we are in talks with Hyundai to get one for another twin test but not many on fleet and the ones that are available happen to be unavailable due to demand Not that I've driven one but I've heard the engine isn't as strong as the Mk8 but the rest of the car is as good if not better in some areas (i.e. customising driving parameters instead of just Normal, Sport and Race in the Fiesta)
Yeah I can believe there’s not many about. Hyundai reckon my lad’s will be here end of February beginning of March.🤔 Must admit when I sat in the back for his test drive I was pretty impressed. The amount of stuff that comes as standard compared to the ST was surprising, LSD, heated wheel and seats etc. My lad says he wasn’t keen on how the revs seem to hang when changing gear, I think a few people have said that. I’ll talk him into having a drive when he gets it, looking forward to seeing how it drives. Seemed to have plenty of grip when he drove it on pretty greasy, bumpy roads.😎👍
Brother used to own a stage 2 mk7 st2 (MT) and I owned a standard mk8 st2(performance pack) ... We both seemed to agree that the Mk8 was the better car out of the box, especially if you can be bothered to stage 1 it. The interior of the mk8 for me personally is what made me get it over the mk7, I hate the tiny screen and the buttons on his. The engine on the mk8 for sure runs out of puff after 5/6k revs i feel but at 2.5/3k it is boosty as hell, loved that. The standard sound absolutely goes to the little 3 cylinder engine of the mk8 without a doubt. The pops and crackles in sport always put a smile on your face, though my brothers was modded so sounded infinitely better as you'd have guessed. His also looked way better from the exterior, that's one of the reasons I decided to sell my mk8. It was just a very boring to look at car (i had the grey) and compared to his modified mk7, it just didn't stand out. Price to performance you can't go wrong with the mk7. You can pick them up for decent mileage at around £8k whereas its around £16/17k now for the mk8 with performance pack. Both compared to my current slightly modified mk5 Golf gti..... the golf feels more planted and heavier, sticks to the ground more, but absolutely lacks the torque and nippiness of the fiestas. Its boring in comparison but that could be due to its age also. (06 plate) Overall, if you want the best for the price, get the mk7, put some mods on.... especially a quaife diff. If price isn't an issue, get the mk8 and stage 1 it. Thats all it really comes down to nowadays, price...
The tiny infotainment screen/lack of Android Auto is a killer, more so these days! Luckily there's a Sync3 retrofit from the US market ST180s so fingers crossed I'll be doing that at some point Both cars are equally as good and as you could see it made it difficult to choose but either way whatever one you have, you have a great car to play with and enjoy! Very good video Chris. As you know I love the fiesta ST’s and as my genuine opinion, I trust the MK7 ST’s to last much better with that 4 cylinder engine compared to the MK8’s. But as a MK8 owner, I am so happy with my car, I think the power delivery from that 3 cylinder engine is so impressive, the way the power revs all the way out is really surprising and I love the unique sound from the 3 pot. However the 1.6 4 pot I trust a whole lot more and originating from the zetec engine family, that engine can be easily trusted when tuned. I do love my MK8 but I’m keeping it stock power as 200hp from a 1.5 3 cylinder is enough for what I enjoy from my MK8, but aswell to the point I don’t want to push that 3 cylinder anymore than what it’s doing from the factory 👍🏼
It is indeed a superb engine. I decided to get the Mountune M235 for my mk 8 and i can tell you that it takes a great car and makes it Epic. Will hit 0-60 under 6 seconds and is more urgent at the top of the rev range. It adds more grunt without taking things too far. I feel its worth the money and I've not had any issue having already done 8000 miles with it.

Would love to Lawrence, but unfortunately Toyota is tough on giving out press cars 😒 I'd still choose a Fiesta over a GR86, as its more versatile as a daily car Thanks for watching 👍🏼
Nice double whammy video boys. Enjoyed the top trumps. I've not driven a fiesta st since the mk5. I still can't get into liking the noise of these modern 3 pot engines. The performance they get from them are great though.
You definitely need to drive both (Mk7 & Mk8), the Mk6 ST wasn't bad for it's time but had the EP3 keeping it on it's toes! Once you drive even a Mk7.5 ST, you soon realise how much the Mk6 was missing/behind. The 3 pots aren't bad, you just find they run out of puff higher up in the rev range compared to the 4 pot in the Mk7 Again jumping in the Mk7 from the Mk8 you miss the exhaust pops/crackles and other noises that bring it alive, so it's swings and roundabouts with both cars. A difficult one to conclude but a lot of fun and would do it again in a heartbeat 👍🏼 Thanks for watching!
Having owned both I have to say after not being a fan of the mk8 to start with I find it to be the much better car imo. Things that needed improving on the mk7 they did with the mk8. I’d say the mk7 is a slightly more raw car to drive but I just find the mk8 the next level up in terms of all round flexibility
Yeah I totally agree, pretty much sums up the same conclusion both me & Aaron made For me, I driven so many new cars recently and they just miss the same driver connection you used to get from older cars. With the Mk7 & Mk8 ST's that statement above rings true when you're jumping from the Mk8 back into the Mk7 However, if you after a more comfortable car to live with; the Mk8 will definietly be the better choice but I'd argue the comfort side is something I could sacrifice especially in a Performance Fiesta but each to their own Thanks for watching and joining me in the comment section Stefan!
Mk7.5 revs cleaner and far more of an ST for raw fun , especially if stage 1 or 2. by Revo, !! :-) , also not liking the back lights. of the Mk8 like the B Max,or 3 pot 1.5. , just runs out of revs early and not so tuneable. as the 4 cylinder 1.6 , robustness i,m sure we,ll find out in time, with the 1.5 3 pot . my views as a mechanic and life long enthusiast .
A lovely video from both you lads… well done I am getting the 285 upgrade on my mk7 (currently MR230) and am really looking forward to it - although it’s not cheap. However I recently saw car focussed review of it and he didn’t seem overwhelmed which has slightly worried me lol But I have always stuck to Mountune and this will be my last power upgrade - just hope I do not regret it. Keep up the good work 👍👍
Thank you for the kind words and for watching too! If you live with the car everyday and after the extra buzz, I don't think you'll be that disappointed - of course there is plenty of other options for more power for less money I'm planning to go S280 Turbo with custom mapping (low and high boost maps) I'll be covering the journey of getting mine to Stage 3 in the near future 👍🏼
@@PocketRockets oh it's a pleasure ... Nice to see some humble reviewers on the YT platform Yes I think you are right. The lads at mountune HQ namely Fred and Jonathan (now FJRS) are just brilliant and I only feel comfortable taking the car to them. I will look out for your journey with the mk7 and maybe I will see you on the road one day All the best for now 😊👏👍
Humble and honesty are key 100% 👍 ... the boys at FJRS are great, more so now as they spread their wings and fit not just Mountune parts too! I would consider Mountune (had many cars tuned by them) as they are 5 minutes away from me but I'm looking for more power (340 - 350bhp) and multiple maps for different driving conditions i.e. road map and a track day map to keep the car usable and reliable too Yes definitely, give us a wave or if you see me in person, come over and say hi! 😀
@@PocketRockets totally agree with you... Last time I checked/from experience, both men and women drive most cars I speak to more people that prefer the Mk7 over Mk8 but regardless its individual preference/opinion Mk7 STs started from £17,935 compare that to a Mk8 ST which is £27,500+ so again not sure what you mean? I'd still choose a Fiesta over a GR86, as its more versatile as a daily car
Thanks for watching 👍🏼
Nice double whammy video boys. Enjoyed the top trumps. I've not driven a fiesta st since the mk5. I still can't get into liking the noise of these modern 3 pot engines. The performance they get from them are great though.
You definitely need to drive both (Mk7 & Mk8), the Mk6 ST wasn't bad for it's time but had the EP3 keeping it on it's toes! Once you drive even a Mk7.5 ST, you soon realise how much the Mk6 was missing/behind.
The 3 pots aren't bad, you just find they run out of puff higher up in the rev range compared to the 4 pot in the Mk7
Again jumping in the Mk7 from the Mk8 you miss the exhaust pops/crackles and other noises that bring it alive, so it's swings and roundabouts with both cars.
A difficult one to conclude but a lot of fun and would do it again in a heartbeat 👍🏼
Thanks for watching!
Yeah I totally agree, pretty much sums up the same conclusion both me & Aaron made
For me, I driven so many new cars recently and they just miss the same driver connection you used to get from older cars. With the Mk7 & Mk8 ST's that statement above rings true when you're jumping from the Mk8 back into the Mk7
However, if you after a more comfortable car to live with; the Mk8 will definietly be the better choice but I'd argue the comfort side is something I could sacrifice especially in a Performance Fiesta but each to their own
Thanks for watching and joining me in the comment section Stefan!
Really nice video🔥Make more videos like this
Thank you very much, glad you liked it
Plenty more twin tests to watch over on ThoseTwoCarGuys, a new joint channel with myself and Car Obsession
A lovely video from both you lads… well done
I am getting the 285 upgrade on my mk7 (currently MR230) and am really looking forward to it - although it’s not cheap. However I recently saw car focussed review of it and he didn’t seem overwhelmed which has slightly worried me lol
But I have always stuck to Mountune and this will be my last power upgrade - just hope I do not regret it.
Keep up the good work 👍👍
Thank you for the kind words and for watching too!
If you live with the car everyday and after the extra buzz, I don't think you'll be that disappointed - of course there is plenty of other options for more power for less money
I'm planning to go S280 Turbo with custom mapping (low and high boost maps)
I'll be covering the journey of getting mine to Stage 3 in the near future 👍🏼
@@PocketRockets oh it's a pleasure ... Nice to see some humble reviewers on the YT platform
Yes I think you are right. The lads at mountune HQ namely Fred and Jonathan (now FJRS) are just brilliant and I only feel comfortable taking the car to them.
I will look out for your journey with the mk7 and maybe I will see you on the road one day
All the best for now 😊👏👍
Humble and honesty are key 100% 👍 ... the boys at FJRS are great, more so now as they spread their wings and fit not just Mountune parts too!
I would consider Mountune (had many cars tuned by them) as they are 5 minutes away from me but I'm looking for more power (340 - 350bhp) and multiple maps for different driving conditions i.e. road map and a track day map to keep the car usable and reliable too
Yes definitely, give us a wave or if you see me in person, come over and say hi! 😀
@@PocketRockets totally agree with you... I am not looking for crazy power and tbh I am too safe with the car but for some reason I like to have all the mountune upgrades on it... an expensive OCD condition lol
But for your needs what you are doing makes sense. I am down at the workshop next Thursday all being well for the upgrades so if you are about we could meet 😊
Look after yourself in the meantime and thank you for taking the time out to reply 👍👍
@@gooner70_ns Drop me a follow on Instagram and drop me a message nearer to the time, I'll see if I can pop by!
This or the I20n I can't chose
It's not an easy choice that's for certain! Myself & Aaron may soon be finding out that question very soon ... Keep posted!
Thanks for watching!
Stock RS, if you plan on doing mods ST
Not sure what you mean? It's a while ago since I made this video, add some context please 🙈
Thanks for watching!
The red car has more sexy line! Everything else is irrelevant!
Why is everything else irrelevant?
208 gti, not 308 gti.
The 308 gti is way above. 270 bhp, Meca diff, enormous brakes.
And the 208 gti bps is still above nearly everything is this range
If either of us said 308, we meant to say 208 (not sure we did, filming was a while ago)
Thanks for watching Robin! 👍🏼
Mk7 looks far better than the mk8 may be personal appinon ?....
Exactly right Jordan, everyone has an opinion sometimes it may differ from others
I happen to agree with you that the Mk7 is a better looking car overall over a Mk8
Thanks for watching 👍🏼
MK7 boy racers wet dream. MK8 far more refined and mature design. Take the boy racer shyte of it and it's a lovely car.
Mk8 has a spoiler just like the Mk7 👀
27k for a fez 😂id rather get n rs for the little extra mk7 so much of a better car
Facelift Mk8s exceeded over £30k 🙈
MADNESS! Thanks for watching 👍🏼
mk7 is for ladies, sorry but it is....the st version looks ok but otherwise its like a toy car. New mk8,5 looks so much better than ever. The price comparison was stupid or was the mk7 price 19k as a new?
Interested to know where you got that information from Dunkku? Last time I checked/from experience, both men and women drive most cars
I speak to more people that prefer the Mk7 over Mk8 but regardless its individual preference/opinion
Mk7 STs started from £17,935 compare that to a Mk8 ST which is £27,500+ so again not sure what you mean?
Thanks for watching
...for ladies? 😂👍That is certainly also the reason why the car was so popular with all male testers & the majority of the drivers are men. My mk7 st is my everyday vehicle & I'm sure you've never driven one. An absolute driver's car. Such comments only come from clueless.
@@svend.7324 I'm still clueless on what Dunkku is on about lol, glad I'm not the only one! Thanks for watching &commenting Sven
Literally never seen a woman driving one
They don't weigh 1088kg they are 1163kg
1088kg is dry weight but yes Kerb weight is 1163
Regardless, the ST180 wins
