  • "Mercer County Unknown" is a series of videos documenting some of the county's lost, forgotten, or undisclosed locations. The third video in the series features the Kidds Mill Covered Bridge near Transfer, Pennsylvania, the last remaining covered bridge in Mercer County. The bridge spans 124 feet across the Shenango River. It was built in 1868 and named for the Kidds Grist Mill that used to exist in the area. Built to replace another bridge destroyed by a flood, the bridge carried traffic until 1979. The bridge is still open to pedestrians and there is a small park nearby with picnic tables, restroom, and a kayak launch.

Gotta see this now! Anywhere near the Shenango Trail? Would it make for a good flatlanding adventure???

Yes! The Shenango Trail runs 8 miles south from the bridge to the trailhead at Big Bend. Very little vert, but go when it's dry, cause some of the swampy parts can be underwater when its wet.

Thanks for this awesome video. I need to go out there some time. My mom's name is carved somewhere in the bridge by an old boyfriend.

You are welcome! There was a lot of graffiti and carvings inside the bridge.

Super fascinating info about the structure! it’s a pity you can’t drive through it anymore.

It really is. There are two covered bridges in neighboring Lawrence County that you can still drive across and they are just as beautiful!
