Absolutely stunning views, recently looked at Paramo for the first time, originally was looking at the smock but your review has swayed my decision to go for the Alta 3, superb jacket! Great features. Fantastic review, can't wait for the snow to arrive now! Cheers.
Thanks for that Barry, its kind of you to say. Its a great jacket, you should enjoy its use. Likewise, I love the snow, I hope we get some this year, (locally I mean). Enjoy your outdoors time, Andy
I've taken, the costly, plunge and bought the Alta 3 along with Cambia LS and Cascada 2 trousers. Spent the afternoon and early evening at Speakers Corner in the gear. It's definitely drizzle proof but surprisingly cool -I was barely warm enough when fully battened down. Mind you I was standing around for a good 2 to 3 hours in high single digit temperature. I'll get the grid base layer and also their hat in the same material. That should be warmer. I'm not overly concerned by this coolness as I'll be less likely to overheat when actually being active in such conditions. So far so good. The only criticism is a subjective one about pockets as I'm used to jackets with a multitude of cargo pockets, and a variety secret zipped ones. Oh yes don't leave an open chocolate bar and smartphone in same outside pocket you end up with a molten chocolate bar and cack on your phone and in base of pocket.
This is the problem with advising on warmth, we are all different. Remember, its not designed as an insulating layer, but a water proof one. Standing in cold damp conditions is also a cold thing to do! Give me minus 5 over plus 5 any day! Its also a jacket for moving in, its key advantage is moisture management, your moisture. Have a good walk in the hills to get a true feel for what you now own ;)
Hi Bob, I think it was a large- however, it’s a pre-production sample, so not a good example- however, I take a large in this jacket (and nearly all Paramo, though I have a medium Bentu, which I will cover in an upcoming vid), and a medium does largely fit 😊 hope that helps, Enjoy your outdoors time, Andy 🏕🏔🌀
@@WildcraftBritain thanks for your help very much appreciated... I really am tempted to get the jacket.. I'm usually strictly a old school berghaus fanatic.... How does it handle some serious rain or a good few hours in the drizzle... I'll be using it for hiking around the Yorkshire dales.... Best regards and stay safe...
@@WildcraftBritain fantastic jackets... Don't laugh one bought 3 in various colourways two new colours the blue. And pumpkin midnight... But my favourite is a older colour... Wine midnight.... Stunning piece of kit.....
Great review and video! After years of goretex, event etc jackets I'm going to go for a paramo. I just can't decide which one, Velez, Alta 3 or Enduro (2016). I'll be using it as my winter jacket, (UK wet weather) and for snowboarding. I feel the Enduro would be the best all round, but seems to lack as many pockets, or at least useful pockets as the Alta 3, and even though the Velez only has the higher up pockets at the side, they can at least be used for hand warming. Either way, I'm also going to double up with the paramo endure fleece for when it gets really cold. Any info to help me decide would be great!
Hi Tim, thanks, thats kind of you to say :D I am just finishing my Endure video, will be live in about a month, (I am heading to Scotland this week, with my Enduro). I was going to get an Alta 3, but the Enduro (2016) made more sense, as I use helmets quite a lot. If you use bags with waist belts or harnesses, the Endure works out at more pockets, as the two side hand pockets are raised, so can still be accessed, (and are good size). There is one less internal pocket, and its the larger one, but it still has a lot of pockets, (I cover these in the vid), including a lift pass pocket on the arm. The Velez is proving to be a great jacket though, and perhaps more versatile, in that is much lighter and cooler, so it can be used in warmer times. It has a lack of pockets though and I have not tried it in hard winter conditions, but the use we have put it to so far shows it to be an excellent water proof and super breathable! Choice, as ever, is yours ;P which ever you get, you are unlikely to buy a hardshell ever again! Enjoy your outdoors time, Andy
Trailblazer Outdoors thanks Andy. The lift pass on the Enduro has swayed my decision for me a bit (plus the red/blue colour combo is a bit snowboard-y!). I did notice on your Alta 3 video that the hood with a helmet was a bit tight, so again for snowboarding the Enduro hood would work with a helmet. I think I've talked myself into the Enduro! Thanks again for the vids, they have good production and useful, there's not many video reviews on the paramo stuff!

Trailblazer Outdoors It'll be great for its intended role.
Trailblazer Outdoors I'll be more active outdoors this evening.
What size were you wearing please
