that farok menish shot was so awesome, for 2 reasons. the player wasn't scared to take the shot, which you dont see nowadays with all of the overcoaching. and also because of how all the announcers got into it, when they all yelled "goooood!", i think that type of broadcasting is going to be the future, where its not as much one announcer calling the play, but a group of guys watching the game with you and honestly expressing their emotions, kinda like ESPN did this year with the title talk thing during the bcs game.
i still watch this and CAN'T BELIEVE he took that 3 lol. if he would have missed... that coach would have lit his ass up LOL HE SPLASHED IT ! LOLOLOLOLOL
I am a UNLV alum - and Farokhmanesh beat us with a 30-footer at the buzzer the game before this which no one remembers because of the shot he hit in this one. That is probably one of the most forgotten NCAA buzzer-beaters because he followed it up with an even bigger shot.
ill never forget this game! i was a sophomore at st cloud state and i remember EVERYONE on campus filled out their brackets and had Kansas winning the natty but then this game happened!!
Kevin Harlan (the play by play of this game) is a Kansas alum and it sounded like he was shocked and sad at the same time. Love listening to him call games though... Man in 2010 just about everyone had Kansas winning it all and I mean they was the best Team until that Upset that had to be a top 10 Biggest Upset of All-Time in March Madness history
That KU team reeked of "crown us now", "we watch all our highlights" swagger. I live in Kansas City and every week was another article of a player or analyst (to be fair, not coach Self), talking as if the tournament was just a formality. And Northern Iowa was MUCH better than their rank suggested. I remember saying on FB before the game started that if KU took their foot off the gas for one second, it's gonna be bedlam on the UNI campus.
one thing most people don't know about Northern Iowa is that from their first appearance in 1990 through this game, every tournament game they played in (they were 2-5 in the tournament entering the game against Kansas), whether they won or lost, was decided by 5 points or less. Their Sweet Sixteen loss to Michigan St. was the first time it wasn't (they lost by seven).
Noticing that inbounding for uni is terrible. Thur escaped this game, but were embarrassed a few years later against a&m. Comes down to a coaching problem.
What you do is have the guard take the ball out pass to a big man stepping out of bounds especially if the man guarding the ball is a forward or center who usually can't stop the guard from getting open stepping in !
I remember seeing Ali shoot this, he thought about driving to the basket. Time stopped and he thought, for teams like us to win games like this I've gotta roll the dice and hit shots like this and he went for 3 to make it a 4 point game and totally demoralized Kansas
If you show up prepared, play/work your ass off, believe, don't give up, give everything you have...who knows what can happen. Sport is a microcosm of life!!!
I'll agree Ali had the dagger look. Lots of nifty moves for him in that game too. U guys who know pls advise;why did he not make it into SOME league somewhere. Don't think he did well in Europe either...
Not sure why Kansas called a timeout when it was 63-62. Kansas had all the momentum and Northern Iowa could barely inbound the ball without turning it over at that point but the timeout allowed them to set up an inbound play and led to that 3. I think the timeout cost them the game. Kansas should've made Northern Iowa use their last timeout.
a couple things here.... looks like a man to man press which was doing a good job but guy gambled and went for the steal which basically broke everything down. Farokhmanesh sets his feet at 30 shot clock and 37 sec left in the game... if he misses, Kansas has a chance to win it coming back the other way. Instead he was serious with that shot and drilled a COLD BLOODED 3. but if the one guy doesnt gamble for the steal, youre not scrambling on defense. and after the charge was taken on the defensive end.... game..blouses..
The more athletic talented teams should implement more full court pressure on mid major teams who have limited ball handling. Kansas would have smoked these scrubs if they pressed them all game long after made buckets. Kansas had a deeper bench and just more athletic guys than Northern Iowa. Just look at Northern Iowa turn the ball over like crazy when you challenge them.
+i'd still smash though you can't call him good or bad, there is no way to really tell. coached before him at ku have had good teams, after him there will be good teams. ku gets a lot of good players, and teams will always be good no matter who is the coach there. we would have to put Bill self at some mid major school or something to really see if he is a good coach
Bill Self now has 9 Elite8s, 4 Final Fours, 3 National Title game appearances & 2 National Titles at Kansas. Kansas just won their 16th straight 1stRd gm in a row. Kansas has the MOST NCAA Tournament wins in country last 20yrs. 😆 🤣 😂 😹. Nice "call!" Rock Chalk!
5:30 is still the most insane, coldest shot in the history of the game.
Stop it.. in the history of the game.. IN THE HISTORY OF THE GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!
Joey Gillespie I’ll get you banned from UA-cam for your use of exclamation points and capital letters
It’s the basketball equivalent of going for it on 4th and 10 when leading by 2.
@@matthewerspamer6274 worst analogy
Once every couple years this shot by Farokhmanesh will pop into my head for someone and I'm forced to rewatch this video. So epic.

"You can't be serious with that shot." Not for nor against either team but that stuff is forever etched in my March Madness memory.
Bro predicted the manning cast
@@midnytemassacre same. but that kid had some serious stones shooting that 3 at that point.
It's not "overcoaching" to have players not take a 3 with 30 seconds left on the shot clock up 1 super late.
i still watch this and CAN'T BELIEVE he took that 3 lol. if he would have missed... that coach would have lit his ass up LOL HE SPLASHED IT ! LOLOLOLOLOL
They have to shoot the ball anyways in the possession. It is a good shot. You are just a clueless sheep
He had the green light to shoot.. coach Jake would’ve trusted him in taking that shot
Suggested videos: #15 over #1 Kansas, #12 over #1 Kansas, #8 over #1 Kansas etc etc. :D
alex2405777 how would a 15 win against a one? Unless they made it to the elite eight. Also you must really hate Kansas
@James for Safe Streets bro...
Ku never wins the big one
5:31 If only Bill Raftery was the announcer.
Bill Raftery: Prince Ali with the dagger.... 'howls like a wolf' ONIONS!

Yea, tbh i wasn't even aware he did that in the prior round
Dude, what on Earth are you doing taking that sho-
**swish**

My childhood was cedar falls. This game was amazing.

I love how the picture quality looks like its from the 90's
one of those iconic shots in March

probably my favorite shot of all time
Farokhmanesh basically said "you can't beat us" with that shot. But that one he hit against UNLV was equally ice.
Might wanna rethink the "greatest shot in UNI history" part as of right now
As a Kansas fan this upset hurt because this team was stacked like the 97 Kansas team and the 98 Kansas that loss to road island
What a heartbreaking loss, for Kansas.😢😢
Never gets old.
If you show up prepared, play/work your ass off, believe, don't give up, give everything you have...who knows what can happen. Sport is a microcosm of life!!!
Faroukmanesh with the balls of steel
We need these shorts back
@ 5:30 ALI!! BOMAYE!! ALI! BOMAYE!! ALI!! BOMAYE!!!!
2010 it was Northern Iowa. And 2011 it was VCU. Lol
? Lol..2008 it was NATIONAL TITLE with only FF feat all 4 #1Seeds.
2022, Kansas Jayhawks NATIONAL CHAMPIONS again...
The most vicious shot in the history of college basketball.
Nobody to rebound. LOL. Let 'er rip.
I'll agree Ali had the dagger look. Lots of nifty moves for him in that game too. U guys who know pls advise;why did he not make it into SOME league somewhere. Don't think he did well in Europe either...
I love how Marcus Morris just hangs on the rim for like 7 seconds at 5:43 and somehow doesn't get called for a technical
It’s cuz he was trying not to land on anyone and injure another player
They let it go if there’s bodies on the floor.
There were players under him, it's not a tech if it's necessary to hang on rim for safety
And on the first day of spring...
big shorts, big shot. the farokhmanesh story.
Cold blooded!!!!!!
What a dagger that was
5:42 look at how long Morris hangs on the rim lol
That just broke my f'ing heart........LOL, Go Big Blue!
It appears Kansas is listed several times in the suggestion column.
GET LOST FIKE AND MEG
cant argue with that
definitely charges. not even remotely close
Every time March rolls around, I watch this because it made me fall in love with March Madness and also saw this on TV.
Northern Iowa for the win.

I don't know team always call a timeout when they score the clock does not keep going down like it did in the 90s
it sets up the defense better
Kansas always gets upset here in OKC
That Farokmanesh 3pt shot took huge, massive, swinging balls.
FIKE NEED YOUR OLD PROPERTY BACK YEAH CALL THE FIRE DEPT ON HIM

bill self chokes again
2022 🏆 KU
me to
Kansas has taken more BIG "L's" then any team in March Madness history and they've all been epic! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Say what you will about bill self at Kansas, but he is not all that good in the tournament including loses here, #Bucknell and #Vcu

Nice "call!"
Rock Chalk!
Both of those offensive fouls are terrible calls.
