    I like putting things on the floor and using catwalks to get around. This is more common in real factories anyway. It’s easier to create pathways for people around equipment than it is to build architecture and pathways for huge, mega tonnage of equipment.
    In the real world you usually only put things below ground or high up if you need to for better function or safety (of equipment and/or personnel). It’s expensive to do so, therefore you really need a good reason other than “I like to see the floor.”
    Obviously it’s a game AND playing it in many different ways is one of the great things about it. I’ve built overhead and kept the ground floor clear. I’ve built in “the basement” and kept upper floors clear. And I’ve done various other ways. It’s all fun.
    Thanks for the video.

      None of the factories I've worked in have utility facilities on the floor, unless it's in the ground (like sewage and water drains). Most processing pipes, electrical wires, etc. Are raised above ground and dropped to get to the places that need them. Maybe it's a difference of food processing vs. other processing. But even in non-food plants I've worked at did not just have everything on the floor

    You need to get the MICRO MANAGE mod, it will change your life. It doesn't add any parts to the game so if it is ever disabled or you remove it, it will not affect anything placed in the world. What it does is allow you to actually place parts where you want them. No more need for all the tricks to make a piece move, align, rotate, the way you want it to using other temporary parts to build off of only to delete them afterwards. Just place the part near where you want it, shift click to highlight it, right click to open the interface, then you can move up/down, left/right, forward/back, even rotate on all axis if needed.

    Honestly, the biggest issue I have is that Stackable supports (belts and pipes) _do not attach to normal supports at all._ So if you build one belt the normal way, then go "oh crap, I need multiple belts here", you have to _rip out the entire existing belt line_ and manually place Stackable ones. On top of that, you can't use Stackable as the default when extending a normal line, it only ever places normal ones... so you have to pre-place towers of Stackable supports (using the original single belt as a "okay, what _isn't_ too long between segments" guide) and then go back and put the belts/pipes in after the fact...

    Being efficient is also about removing parts that aren't needed in your factory. You don't need to bother with putting a piece of pipe inside of the wall. The wall pipe hole's only function is visual. In other words, when you are ready to place your pipe, just clip it straight through the wall. As long as it is aligned properly with your pipe hole, it will look right. Fewer pieces of pipes also reduces the amount of elements that the game has to keep track of. If you do end up connecting a pipe to one of the two sides, you can just start your next segment of pipe by selecting that same pipe hole and extending from there. You don't need to wall remove the wall to do it. The game will just let you do it. Pipes are one of those game entities that will clip through just about anything.

    Vehemently disagree with your most basic premise here which is that you shouldn't build at ground level. The thing I care the MOST about being efficient with is my time. Building on the ground is faster.
    This design is cool and there are times when I certainly build stuff above or below the machines, but generally speaking I find the most efficient plan to be throwing the belts and pipes at or near ground level and simply make the factory walkable by adding walkways.

      The video did exactly what it was made to do - deliver a burst of information and offer a solution to viewers who care about the topic. I really min/maxed this one for viewer retention with intense visuals to complement the rapid fire of information and at 77% retention, it clearly succeeded.
      The video has ~850 words (+/- 10). The average rate of speech is ~160-210 words per minute. Given the video's length of 3:45 (3.75 minutes), it is perceivably only ~8% faster than normal speech (at 226 words per minute). This is only the case because of editorial interventions like removing all filler words like "umm...", and cutting out dead air between sentences (like taking a breath or swallowing saliva) and the lack of contractions. If all of those interruptions were still in place the video would be ~4:30 (4.5 minutes) setting an average of 188 words per minute and landing it comfortably in the middle of the average rate of speech.
      Perhaps I underestimated the complexity of building a pipe and belt support, overlooking the fact that some players, especially those who play at a slower pace, might find it difficult to follow for a few minutes.

      This was in update 8 💁‍♂️ try using bps without the config file. Fixed crashes for some people. Can also try loading them in designer and saving again

    It's not bad, but imagine all those items together multiple in a single save. Sorry, but to much items spended

    • @approximatelybored
      @approximatelybored  Рік тому

      Item limit isn't real anymore... Just use gc.MaxObjectsInGame=99999999 and forget about it. Saving and loading takes 1-2 mins, but the game runs fine since "Chaos" engine optimizations.
      I'm currently at over well 4 million in-game entities (objects) and the game runs almost exactly the same as it did at 150-200k entities. The reason is - static objects (buildables) add ~ 1:1000 of the load of a manufacturing machine (like constructors etc.), so the game with ~1 000 000 foundations runs about the same as one with 1000 working machines.

      @@approximatelybored It's just 2m objects, and many things are more than one object. People are hitting it a lot more with zooping and blueprints.
