    Thanks for sharing this Dr M it was educational to see how you applied your knowledge to this artefact, shame we don't see this level of educated rigor in every historical investigation.

    *Seventy is a formulaic number* in Canaanite/Hebrew legend and mythology, and if the inscription does say 70, it may be hyperbole in this inscription.
    The Canaanite pantheon was said to have 70 gods and in Genesis, after the Flood, 70 nations are identified.
    The Septaguint is so-named based on the idea that there were 70 translators.

    I am certainly no expert, but according to Israel Finkelstein, Dan did not come under control of the Israelites until the reign of Jeroboam II, which is roughly 60 years after the time of Joram / Jehu / Hazael.
