That looks like a scaled down design if BMW'S Tele-lever front suspension. Designed to reduce fork dive under braking. Just imagine the types of bikes we'd be riding if some of these ideas actually worked/caught on.
I love this video. the 90's was a special time for mountain biking. are those allen /hex key skewers the control Tech titanium ones? lightest at the time if I recall. i still have mine in black ..
I’m not actually sure! They came on my KHS Montana Team but I thought they worked better on this. They’re not branded from what I remember but I’ll certainly check them out now!
I have the black version of the 1993 Mongoose Amplifier in my collection but with a Risse Genesis oil/air rear damper. This damper is much better as the orignal spring rear suspension damper the Amplifier came with because of the higher breakaway moment. The rear of the bike is much stiffer now and it no longer rocks as much when you pedal.

Can't help but think that squiggle was thinking 'Nice bike mate, but you've parked it on my lunch, any chance you could shift it, ta?' I wonder if time has come back around for a bike like that - ultra short travel just for comfort, rather than bomb proof monster truck.
At the point where you get thrown off a modern bike, it is with no bike-handling skills, at a much more dangerous point at greater speed. Getting thrown over the bars was the problem, but as long as you can size up on the frame and down on the reach that is OK. It is more of a bmx for the trails, and there was a time when even those were out and about.
I really do respect your appreciation and dedication for the old bikes. It certainly is a work of art and well worthy of any bike collection. That squirrel though 😅 👍
I can almost feel how twitchy the front would be with those short bars and long stem! Great to see it brought back to the trails. I let out an audible "ooh!" when the video opened with that shot of it leaning on the stump.

Good spot! Yeah it's not the best angle at all. It was hard to try and get them balanced as it always wanted to pull to the one side. It worked... but it still dragged a little.

The modern machine cut well groomed flow trails are probably the best place for retro mtb riding.
For comfort sure! They still hold their own elsewhere though - you've just got to hold on tighter :)

The RD is fine. It’s the design of the frame. The chainstays sit a lot lower on the dropouts than normally. Just a bit of a design flaw.

You mean like the Rockshox Rudy gravel fork? Yup - They do a 30/40mm travel fork for gravel bikes now!

Looks like a fun and fairly smooth ride. Well equipped drivetrain in a good sweet spot age for vintage MTB and experimentation.
Yeah that blue trail is really mellow and smooth. It was built as part of the commonwealth games to get more people in to MTB.
