    Boy those are just darlin little Hawks...love'm ✔️‼️& nice to see that RR spikes can be used without having to add a high carbon element to them!!

    Okay, I'm inspired. This is possibly the prettiest RR spike tomahawk I've ever seen. Now I need to go heat and beat some iron! Thank you for sharing this.

    I've been waiting to watch this one until the time was right. Just got an order for one of these, so thanks for the tutorial. I plan on using my fancy new Frog's Head hammer on it. Thanks, Sam.

    I make alot of railroad spike tomahawks and because of the low carbon content, even though I've had alot of RR spikes harden enough that a file will not scratch them, I now cut the head of the spike before I begin forging and I forge weld a small peice of high carbon steel into the spike where the edge is and they have been awesome little tools even though it seems like tedious extra work

    Good job Sam, never thought there would be enough material in a rr spike to make a throwing axe

    A very good video. Most of the videos with music are distracting so I don't watch them, but yours was relaxing and very pleasant. great job on that Mouse Hawk too.

    Wow you make some nice ax heads from just simple rail road spikes. Interesting to see there is enough mass to make the edge. Enjoyed watching the video.

      I make them using the point end as the blade and the head of the spike becomes a small hammer I sell them as camp tomahawks the hammer is great for driving in tent stakes.

    Will a low carbon spike hold an edge without a high carbon insert forged in?

    • @SamTownsBladesmith
      @SamTownsBladesmith  2 роки тому

      Yes it will, but not as well as a high carbon insert would, of course haha
