Steve Comella emerged victorious in the 2023 Dodge Hemi Challenge as part of the 69th annual Dodge Power Brokers NHRA U.S. Nationals at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park. This is the third year in a row the talented driver has won the coveted Dodge Hemi Challenge, the longest continuous specialty race in NHRA history. As he celebrated in the winner's circle, Comella was awarded a prize of $15,000 and a one-of-a-kind, custom-made trophy created by Tom Patsis of Cold Hard Art.
“When the car is killer like this, it’s a little extra pressure to not screw it up,” said Comella, just moments after exiting his car to receive his check and trophy. “I just spent the day listening to the car and doing what it asked. That’s kind of the trick. It’s tough to come down here and talk when you get out of the car, and you’re kind of in this zone. And then you have to get out of your car and try to be intelligent. I don’t really know what to think at the moment.”

The Hemi Challenge is better than watching Pro Stock
i agree , no friggin camaros .
They have ruined pro stock
I was there😀🇺🇸! These cars are the fastest original cars on the planet 🌏 . When they fire them up the ground shakes! Long live these iconic Muscle cars! SS/AH😀🇺🇸
Wichita Falls?
@@davidcarper5411 nope Indy! US Nationals 🇺🇸
Cars so fast the only competition is themselves. Hemis are just awesome
Love watching the Hemi Challenge.
My favorite drag race of the year!
Of course they’re better than pro stock. We watched them to see real cars race. Pro stocks should not be allowed to use the word stock and the funny cars should not be called cars.
Race tracks close due to lack of interest. Well, dragracing moved away from it's origin. Admissions are usually paid by people who enjoy what they can relate to. How many can relate to top-fuel racing? Go guys, keep it lit. By the people for the people!
I bought a 1990 Dodge Daytona in 1990 from Jim Pancake out of his Chrysler dealership in Delaware, Ohio.
Awesome race every year! I'm a bowtie guy all year until the Hemi challenge. Lol
Awesome! Oh the memorories....
Blabber jaw, take a breath and let Herb speak. Your lack of respect here made me turn the video off.
So many gorgeously prepared cars
The very best class in racing
Hemi cars, nuff said!
Hemi
The king of the V8's!
SUPER STOCK IS MY FAVORITE ESPECIALLY THE MOPARS
Last years was Awsome being there live.
Hemi
427 Chevy L -88 Rat.
"Dragracing keeps you young!" 👍
If Herb had those tires and wheelie bars in 68, he'd give these cars a run for their money. At Indy back in 68 there were a slew of them running. We had one set of points and switch the other points on for advance on our Hemi.
Herb is the man

now that they Allow front steering like the Rack and Pinion style , how many cars have switched to Front Steer? and I am pretty sure they rev slightly higher then 7,500 R.P.M.
15k for a win? I'm guessing one engine cost more than that. Do they even make enough to break even? I worked with a guy who went to the nationals in one of the lower classes. He won and did not make enough to pay for his travel expenses.
I wish I was there as a Fan or Competitor, the Best Division in NHRA,
Comella + Warfish + Militia power = VICTORY!
Steve Comella, and Jimmy Daniels are good guys.
Oner my favorite series❤ thanks guys
Iron blocks & heads !! Wow.
How much horsepower do these modified hemis have?
As I recall, the original 426 hemi was advertised at about 425 horsepower - but was underrated for insurance purposes and was more like 500 horsepower or more.
These current cars must be 2 or 3 times that much horsepower to run 8s and 160+ ???
So what mods have been made to do that?
3200 lbs and 900+ HP.
so that's kind of like dropping two 426 hemis into a Dodge Dart like my first car - a 1966 Dodge Dart Gt@@brucesumner6993
Bud Fauble had honkin hemi
I see parachutes on cars but don't see them being used ???
Long runoff area means they don't need the parachute to stop even though their capable speed requires it to be installed. There are tracks that they use them.
makes sense, so does each track get to decide to enforce the rule or not?@@brucesumner6993
Comella cuda was not bought from wescott
That is the old Warfish that Comella is driving. Wescott powered.
Comellas car is rick housers old car built by Gary Hansen
Sure missed seeing Bucky Hess compete but he just got the new car done called FishStick didn't have time to test and get it lined out.
Is this 1/4 mile or 1000 feet ? Thanks 🙏
1320
Ok thanks 🙏
they used to be called ss/aa whats the h stand for
Hemi
It stands for HEMI🇺🇸
The Brand X camps cried so much about them being so much faster, several years back NHRA gave them their own class, because there's no competition but their own kind, Hemi vs. Hemi!
