    You made the comment that more spin on the cueball doesn't equal more spin on the object ball! That's incorrect! In your diagram lining up the cueball and object ball in a straight line, if you put 1 tip of left on the cueball it will throw the cueball 1 tip right or hit the first diamond on you right. If you apply 2 tips of left on the cueball with the proper speed you will make the object ball. You can throw an object ball up too 2 1/2 diamonds. You can do this by going over 2 tips and down 1 tip on the cueball. In your example that would 2 tips left and down 1 tip roughly 7 o'clock on the cueball. The cueball has 15 basic tip positions, 5 across the top, 5 across the center, and 5 low on the cueball. By combining these positions you can get many different cueball and object ball reactions.

      +Clarence Marsh I must’ve meant Sidespin. Throw is at its greatest with 1 tip of draw and 1 1/2 tips of side

      Clarence Marsh, I would love to see a video of you using spin to make an object ball with it and the cue ball lined up on the second diamond. I don't see how that's possible.

      @@shakes469 CJ Wiley has a video explaining this exact technique. He shows how to do it along the table width wise and length wise. The more spin on the cueball the more spin on the object ball.

    how would you do the bank shot from same position if the corner pockets eres blocked, so to try a negative bank into the centre pocket?

    • @clarencemarsh7801
      @clarencemarsh7801 6 років тому

      @TheSmilermike The easiest way to bank a shot in the side pocket if both balls are starting at the 2nd diamond location and the corners are blocked. Aim the object ball between the 1st and 2nd diamond with medium speed and hitting half the object ball, no English is needed on this shot.

    A law isn't the next level from theory. Theories and laws are different things entirely. A law describes what a phenomenon is observed to do, like that massive objects attract each other. A theory explains why a phenomenon occurs, like massive objects bend spacetime, which creates gravity wells that other massive objects fall into. One is a description, the other is an explanation. The law of gravity and the theory of gravity.

    I like the vids BUT......I "almost" gave this a thumbs down.
    The greatest achievement is when u can bank by "feel". That's also when u can come up with some amazing shots too!! Haha
    I fear this vid is gonna create more players taking forever to shoot while over analyzing. (Even advanced players fall victim to this)
    Another reason why I LOVE shot clocks!!

    Playing for over 60 years and thought to be a good player, my attention was always on the next shot and not on the effect shooting shape had on the object ball. Outstanding video. Proves you are never too old to learn.

    Great training videos. I have been playing pool for over 55 years having been taught (beat) by the great Joe Balsis. Your videos are the best and easiest to understand I have ever seen. Keep up the good work and maybe we will have a resurgence in the great game of pool (straight pool I hope). I am old school. Shouldn’t left spin and right spin be referred to left and right “english”?

    You'd think that the cue ball path would match the 'true' angle of reflection when you hit it as slow as possible while still reaching the pocket. Medium pace should cause a little bit of cushion burying. Or... I feel like testing this now.

    Ah, if it only were so easy. Even practising with the cue ball alone, it's not so obvious where the spot on the rail is that will create the fabled angle of incidence equal to angle of reflection (especially on a larger, snooker table).

  • @jceepf

    Hi Jaden, to be precise they are all laws of physics. (I am a physicist but a bad pool players who love your video)
    It is simply that the mid-speed equal angle law is simplest since it does not involve friction neither between the balls nor the cushion. But correct me if I am wrong, but the speed at which applies must also depend on balls, tables, etc.... also it would not be the same on a snooker table or a heated 3-cushion table?
    PS You make lots of sense but too many variables for many people who think pool is trivial!

    • @jeremiahshields7827
      @jeremiahshields7827 6 років тому

      jceepf pool seems trivial, until you play it regularly. Once you get the "basics" down i.e. stance, stroke and cue ball control while using only center cue ball strikes, it becomes fun. When you learn what is possible by using "English" and or cheating the pocket (picking a section of the pocket to put the object ball in to develop more deflection angle for the cue ball when it comes off the object ball) the game becomes more and more alluring, but what makes it addicting is beating your opponent with smarts, because a good shooter with a low table IQ isn't going to win many games. Pool isn't about pocketing a ball with every shot, its about making sure you're the one that gets to pocket the designated final ball, and running 8 balls with 7 other balls possibly in the way(8 ball) is no easy task. I highly recommend you get in to it my friend, its one thing to understand the physics and geometry, its another to get your body to pull it off.

    • @jceepf
      @jceepf 6 років тому

      Absolutely agree with you.

    • @clarencemarsh7801
      @clarencemarsh7801 6 років тому

      @jceepf You are correct the mid speed angle is the easiest to figure out. You are also correct that the table rails, ball condition, and material, plus cloth are all very important factors. What Jaden fails to mention is that when hitting the ball at faster speeds it compresses the rail which in turn will change the angle of deflection, so all physics laws are null and void. When the resistance isn't the same on all shots the essence of the physics laws isn't completely accurate. A pool acronym i was taught over 40 years ago is S.K.A (Speed Kills Action) meaning whatever english you are applying at fast speeds will be greatly decreased or totally lost because the speed will cancel the english. Also banking a shot with a draw stroke will also shorten the angle. What he is showing is the simple equal in equal out for banking. At slower speeds you get whats call rollout or curl on the object ball. This varies greatly with cloth and ball condition. If the balls are dirty it will cause more friction which will result in greater rollout, also if the cloth is heavy like a flannel shirt it will also cause roll out. Most tables I shoot on have Simonis which i believe to be the best and usually plays very fast. Hope this helps you.

    • @jceepf
      @jceepf 6 років тому

      Thanks for the informative paragraph. I would not say that the laws of physics are null and void, but in practice they are. If you need a supercomputer in your head and data on all possible surfaces, wear and tear, on all rails, etc... then, correct, in practice they are null and void!!!!
      It is easier to compute the split of atomic levels due to quantum electro-dynamic effects than the trajectory of a billiard ball with all the effects you mentioned above.
      Best,
      Etienne

    An added tip. If you are on an unfamiliar table the variables of the table impacts the choice of shots. I'm less likely to try a bank shot if other options. In contrast, at home, I know my snooker table and can pot the bank shot every time if ( a giant 'if') I hit the ball correctly. I'm not experience enough to read a different table and adjust. What I can do is change strategy and shot selection.

    Thanks Dupree. I purchased a new full size table and my son "Ethan" is struggling with the basics, shot accuracy being or most importance. Any chance of a quick shout/lesson on shot stance, grip and left hand bridge please?

    • @clarencemarsh7801
      @clarencemarsh7801 6 років тому

      @Stuart Austin. As a lefty myself, the best bridge I like to use is the open bridge, simply placing the cue between your thumb and index finger. This bridge is good because it allows you to see more of the cueball, As far as stance the right foot should be pointed straight while should be turned approx 90 degrees. This opens the hip allowing for a cleaner stroke without hitting your hip. There are several good videos on stance, the most important thing is finding one that gives him a solid base and he is comfortable with.For the accuracy try a stroke drill by simply placing any ball on the spot of the table and shooting it into the corner pockets at the far end of the table. This drill sounds simple, but it will show any stroke flaws by allowing you to see if your stroking through the shot. What you can do is place 2 golf tees one on each side of the cueball about a 1/2 inch in from each side. When shooting the shot and you knock over the golf tee it tells you that when following through you are going to the right or left and applying english to the cueball which will cause you to miss the shot if you think you are hitting center ball. Lokkup Tor lowry pool secrets 1. He explains the stroke and stance very well.
