Washing Dishes in a Bathtub | Kim’s Rude Awakenings S1 Ep5

  • Ever since Dad ripped apart their home to renovate ten years ago, the Gallea’s have not entertained. After all, their master bedroom is a dumping ground, they wash their dishes in the bathtub, and their living room houses a computer, an aquarium, and a bed. Not a single room in their house functions as it should… And with a teenage girl and a toddler, that spells disaster. That’s where domestic diplomats - Kim Woodburn and Mike Chalut - come in. Determined to clean up the mess, they vow to set the family straight, teach them to finish what they start, and restore the house to working condition. The Galle’s admit things have to change… But will they commit to seeing it through?

I grew up like this. It's a damaging environment. Parents like this are unable to take responsibility or accountability. They even sometimes blame the kids. My mum would say "we all live in this house, so it's all of our responsibility.". I grew up thinking that it was my fault. We could never have friends over.
I moved out and I thought, OK since it was my fault, then my mum's house is gonna be clean and tidy without me there.
Years later, and it's still the same. She never changed or can recognise that she is the problem. She is a narcissist.
My sister and I live in clean and tidy homes.
Homes like this are unsuitable places for children and cause mental health problems.

My dad used to tell us that if he lived alone, everything would be clean and tidy. I was a child when he told me this. The irony is I live alone and it's clean and tidy... my dad lives with someone who is very untidy who has hoarding tendencies.

@@PilotFlight2Mars I've built a sincere and empathetic approach with my experience as a child of a hoarding parent to help people to declutter and get organized, but yes, the affordable aspect... if your nation's health system recognizes mental health needs and gives that the support it deserves, there may be someone who is approaching treating this as an addiction, there might be a grant, or contact a program like Kim's. A&E in the US has "Hoarders" but it's not as empathetic as I'd like, but it's a start. Peter Walsh in Australia does this work, or Stelios Kiosses in England.

Omg I love that kid! She's more responsible than the parents in the sense that she's worried about the little brother and the parents don't seem to be. She's great!

I wouldn't like a wardrobe with frosted glass doors like what's in the parent's bedroom. It still makes things look cluttered.

I will never understand starting a project and not finish it before starting another. That makes no sense. How could adults do nothing to protect their baby from the hazards of all those unfinished projects? They're lucky the daughter called the show for help and not Child Protective Services. Both kids would have been removed immediately. It is a long expensive process to regain custody of children once they are in the system and the family stays on the State's CPS records forever.
