The overall length of my current one is 5.5 inches. It is 3 inches high and 1.75 inches wide. The flat area on the top (tallest part) is 1.5 inches. The keyboard is a Logitech Illuminated Keyboard K740. It kind of has a laptop feel to the keys but I prefer that since I spend most of my day on a laptop at work anyway.
I know this is really old now, but I just got a DFGT super cheap as my first step into using a wheel & this is the best idea for a brake mod I've seen. Only problem is I can't find 1.75" thick rubber foam ANYWHERE. :( Do you think if I buy 2" thick & squeeze it in it will still work? I'm thinking that it being squeezed from the sides to fit might make it stiffer, but I'm kinda worried it might end up too dense & block the brake from going all the way down that way. =\
@@EnragedN3wb As long as the foam is not too dense, you can essentially cut it to whatever shape/dimension you want. I played around with a few different shapes back when I first recorded this video (wow... this was a long time ago!) and eventually found a good size that provided enough resistance but still allowed the pedal to go most all the way down. Also, the pedal does not need to go completely all the way to the stop. Just re-calibrate the brake pedal when you get to a point where you feel it is at it's maximum firmness. Then the brake will still give you 100% but may not go all the way to the bottom.
@@airik7777 Just dropping back in to say thanks! I ended up buying the 2" foam, mounted the pedals with the base against the wall behind my desk so they are inverted & swapped the brake with the gas in the software. Then I cut the foam to 5.5" length but 4" tall instead to make up for using the weaker gas pedal as the brake. After recalibrating the pedal for the lost travel distance & doing 3 laps with it this way I've dropped 3 seconds off my previous lap time already & feels SOOO much more natural! My mind is actually pretty blown from not only the difference it made in the feel, but also the ability to control stopping power consistently & accurately. Even stretching out the spring didn't feel this good imo.
If you are struggling to cut the foam to make the wedge, I found that using an electric kitchen knife works fantastic! You can get very nice clean edges and shape it however you want.
While I used packing foam that Dell uses when they ship servers, I found that fabric and craft stores almost always have this kind of foam available in different densities. I was thinking about getting a piece that was a little more firm but ended up buying a set of Fanatec ClubSport v2 pedals instead. The foam really makes the brake more useable on the DFGT's but I also wanted a clutch pedal and the foam can't help with that. Thanks for all the feedback!
I am now experimenting with a new foam wedge that is the same physical dimensions but I drill a hole down through the middle and insert a round coil spring. Based on the spring strength and position, it adds a little more resistance to the foam wedge. I'll probably post another video of that once I get the correct spring I like.
This is awesome. Can't help feeling that the video could have been only 30 seconds long and still included all the main points you needed to get across. Anyways thanks, gonna do this.
I ordered the LDF GT set earlier today. And I was actually thinking about the break and how it would feel as there's is usually no resistance as you brake with these driving sim thingys. Anyways, I went on youtube to check out some reviews and stumbled across your video. It looks like the perfect mod to the brake pedal, and I work with this kind of material every day. I will most definitely try it out. Thanks man!
Really wish I saw this video 9 years ago... lol. Happen to have bubble foam type material from the 3d printer packaging I have. Found a block there that was exactly 5 inches long, 3 inches high and 1.75 inches wide. What luck. Shaped it accordingly and in it went. Wow, regret not doing this long ago when I first started using the wheel. My brain and leg muscle will need to adjust to the pressure, but I see the advantages already. Now onto figuring out how to make the DFGT work with a PS5.
Use the sliced foam tubing used for insulating household water pipes. about 3 inches long stuffed with a half slice of same and attach it to the back bottom of the foot plate so its about cm off surface and too wide to go into slot. this makes it free for first of movement , increases force all the way and nothing to stop it at bottom. ( and I think less leverage applied onto hinge)
@michoppy183 That video was from awhile ago. I now have triple 24's that are on a slider that I can pull closer when using as a racing sim and push back when using for work. In fact, other than the keyboard, nothing about my rig is the same anymore!
I remember having to mod my old Wingman Formula Force (not the later GP) with a squash ball. I've still got the pedal box and may look to rewire it to work with the Driving Force GT
Just some brief constructive criticism, this is a 6min 29sec video to explain how you cut some foam and jammed it in. I don't sub to your anything and this is the only video I've seen, so I'm not sure if you do it often, but you could probably have kept the interesting stuff (increase/decrease resistance with different shapes) and still made this video only 2-3 minutes long. You rambled quite a lot about what other people had done and where you got the foam. Other than that, it's a great idea and I'm going to try it out on mine. Thank you for making the video. :)
"I'm all about simple. I like to do simple things, very quick, that doesn't take a lot of time." Apparently that means making a video with no post-production.
Thnx dude for the info =) The mod, as you yourself said, is a easy and quick, yet effective way to mod a fairly cheap wheel a little more like the real thing. I will definetly try this out, when I get the foam from some where. Anyway, thumbs up and thanks again =)
dear Airik, I have three monitors too, but when I try to use one of then with ETS2, I can´t use the others two display, where I want to open the program´s manual at the same time! Do you have any hint about? Tks.
Looks like a great mod .Been put off the DFGT buy it's infamous pedals .Til now that is . Would be a step up from GT experience ,other issue is noise .I know gears are loud at times ,wondering if you get a lot of noise playing F1 2013 or is it only on games like Dirt 3 ?
I have this steering wheel and I think it is still pretty good. The pedals and wheel don't feel real people say, but that's okay because I'm using them on a fake car and I just wanna a have fun,... LOL,... I forgot thanks for the video!!!
LAWRENCIO11 The overall length of my last one was 5.5 inches. It is 3 inches high and 1.75 inches wide. The flat area on the top (tallest part) is 1.5 inches. I have since upgraded to a set of ClubSport V2's but this simple mod really made a difference in the Logitech pedals. Hope this helps!
The dimensions are in one of the earlier comments. I have those pedals packed away now so not easy to re-measure but look through the comments and you should find where I posted them before.
Sorry for the first comment> I know it doesn´t have anything with the matter, but you are the first person I found with three monitors. And about your easy mode brake and accelerator it should be useable.
anyone know where I can find this kind of foam? I checked my normal office supply store, packing supply store both places didn't know what I was talking about.
You have to use two hands because you're an IT guy. Us manual labour guys only need a pinkey lol. Great, simple MOD. As we used to say in the ARMY. KISS keep it simple stupid.
Finicky? It's about having pedals that match the quality of the wheel. The pedals for the Driving Force GT are not of comparable quality. Maybe we can't all afford a G27. You obviously can! Idiot.
ANDYB1478 Again it's a budget wheel, if they made them equal in quality you would lose quality in the steering and feedback. Simple mods like this one (tried it 15 mins ago love it) make them alright until we can get a deal on a 27 or find better pedals which seems stupid me personally as the wheel isn't that nice.

Checking this out a decade later and will be trying out this on my DFGT!
Hahaha same here 😂
I think these might just be the best budget wheels on the second hand market. I would love to see someone compare them with g29
same here😂
I just stuffed a sponge (like for dishwashing) under the brake pedal and it seriously made a world of difference. For like.. $0.20 or something .

Best mod for the brake pedal I've seen around UA-cam! Kudos! ;)

I had some V2's. they have got to be the best thing on the market period! Literally took a little more than a second off my lap time.

Just found this mod. Great idea and it works very well. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you, that was what I was looking for because on F1 you lock up easier without this mod

Thanks for the helpful hint. Used a piece of memory foam mattress. Feels much better
You sound like a really great guy! :) Thanks for sharing your mod!

bro this really works
"maybe I run into you one day, literally"
haha, ace!
i bought a large car wash sponge and cut it and it worked well. thanks
This was my go-to method too. Works great.
grt mod I squeezed in 2 erasers behind that foam for that added depth, now serving me very well in assetto corsa fanx

This does work really well. Thank you
Please tell me. Wich potencionometr uses in this set of pedals?
I want to repair my pedals.
2:26 ya i know it's pink XD
simply the best solution! ;)

amazing, can break so much later now, thanx alot!!
Thanks, I had the same thought just not the right type material (too dense). And the bungee cords...really?!
and do you get to press the pedal at its 100%?
thank you
Listen to the words coming out of you speakers? Thank you.
I'm not a native english speaker, sometimes i don't get to understand everything. You can go fuck yourself my beloved michel
You like simple? Then simply get on with it!
airik7777 Hey man, nice video! I was wondering what the measurements of the foam are. Makes it a little easier for me, because yours looks fine to me.
LAWRENCIO11 The overall length of my last one was 5.5 inches.
It is 3 inches high and 1.75 inches wide.

Like the little Piper on the desk :)
Diego Azcuy Ha! That's because my "full size" Piper is too big to fit on the desk!
I will do this, thanks
Measurements? Size? Thanks.
It is also protected from dust ✌
How do you like the surround monitor setup up in portrait mode?
Duan Dao it’s not it’s 4:3 monitors
great idea! any chance u can share length x height used?
The dimensions are in one of the earlier comments. I have those pedals packed away now so not easy to re-measure but look through the comments and you should find where I posted them before.
How do we get the foam out
Just grab it and pull it out. It's not sticky or anything like that. The only thing that holds it in is gravity and tension on the sides.
thanks :)
Sorry for the first comment> I know it doesn´t have anything with the matter, but you are the first person I found with three monitors. And about your easy mode brake and accelerator it should be useable.
Put the block from logitech 25 or 27, do not worry!
отдельно он продается редко
İ will try it out as soon as i find a foam dfgt pedals are really bad
Weird, my DFGT LED glows white but your's is glowing blue here.
Actually, mine is white too. It just appears to be blue in the video.
Room lighting OP
MintLatios yeah haha
2:58
Brilliant!
That's the stuff!
I have dfgt brakes really dont bother me, only cost me 50 pounds
dude, you gotta bring those screens closer to the edge of the desk. give you a better POV
Awesome! :D
evrybody is fooling around with foam LMAO just put heavier springs in the pedals i did that works great no fluffy stuff needed
anyone know where I can find this kind of foam? I checked my normal office supply store, packing supply store both places didn't know what I was talking about.
Brent Parker Did you try a fabric / craft store? This kind of foam is used in upholstery and craft making so that might be an option.
can u make me one??
Thanks very much
very good
i got this wheel and its good
thanx
should have made this video 30 seconds long... what a waste of 5 minutes...

i just put in other springs besides the ones present works great for me no problems here feels like 300 doller pedals now
GridlinkedGames dude there not 400 bucks really there only about 150 if your talking about the dfgt
GridlinkedGames I got mine for 85 lol
