Just watched a video similar to this in a way where fire can start traveling underground via hidden roots and not resurface for weeks and travel really far underground also and hence a random fire can indeed start elsewhere.

I live in Texas now, but I grew up in Colorado Springs and remember the cottonwood trees. Never heard of this before. Down here, out biggest blast of pollen comes from a live oak trees (these oaks are evergreen, they don’t lose their leaves in the fall) that is VERY common here. You wake up one morning in March and EVERYTHING is covered in yellow pollen. Later in the year, your lawn is covered in marble sized acorns.
There’s a magical place in Texas where you get both. You do your yard and wash your car and by the late afternoon the winds pick up and everything gets covered in cotton fuzz. Then the next day by the time you get home if you used the wrong kind of tire shine the sides of your tires are yellow from the pollen from the oak trees and your car is dusted in powder. With cotton fuzz here and there. 🤣
