1:13 that is an Eclair 16 NPR, also a great camera. I know it's a lot of hassle compared to digital, but I can't help but love film, both 16mm and 35mm formats. It looks polished, classy and deeply emotional. Anyway: awesome documentary.
i know this is a late reply but IIRC its a thing that constantly tracks the distance of your subject so you can refer to it for focusing. usually i see this in cinema shooting for the focus puller to use the measurements as a reference to follow focus from
