    I don't understand, why kit cars are such an underrated low grown market. This and the Factory 5 and Ultima GTR are such bargains compared to any supercar.

    • @20spray1

      I think it's because most people just want to buy it and drive it. Few people actually want to build something

    • @pluviamachina3583
      @pluviamachina3583 5 років тому +2

      Probably because kit cars such as those provided by Factory Five and DDR require parts from an ultra-specific donor vehicle that not everyone has, let alone belonging to the same requested model year. With Superlite, you have the advantage of putting virtually anything you want in it, and the parts don't have to be pre-owned.

    • @dannyMCDelight

      You need skills to build a car. Plus you’re not saving money building a kit car. It’s probably about $110,000 to build an SLC with a good engine, paint.

    • @ReconVette19D

      (Some) people buying high end ferraris want to brag about the brand, but they usually dont want a track version like a scuderia. There's awesome lesser known watch companies too that make extremely cool ones but they'd rather have a stupid $70k octagon shaped one.

    • @MuShinnen
      @MuShinnen 4 роки тому

      @@dannyMCDelight You can build a pretty decent SL-C without spending that much. I've seen a few examples that are cheaper that were done well. LS engines are dirt cheap, and paint isn't a necessity as wrapping, or dipping is a cheaper alternative. Doing it yourself is also a money saver though time investments are a thing.

    Ever since I discovered this car and Factory 5 I have wanted to build a kit car. Back in the day they were garbage overall, using outdated chassis but these two companies have shown that a kit car doesn't have to be junk. Just a point about your 6 point harness.
    If you do it up nice and tight, then you really need to be wearing a helmet with a HANS device.
    Otherwise, if you have a moderately high rate of deceleration in a crash, you are going to seriously hurt your neck.
    The worst is craniocervical instability, which requires surgery, if you survive.

    • @bloodypsycho6025
      @bloodypsycho6025 5 років тому

      helicart what kinda deceleration are we talking about? Like 150 to 0? Would I have to worry about that if I drive it in the street

    • @CamThai
      @CamThai  5 років тому

      @Bloody Psycho - anyone that runs a hard mounted harness like these needs to worry about these types of injuries. Standard autos use multiple systems to slow you down and will “give” in an impact. This is why you see all competitive/track drivers using HANS devices with these types of belts.

    These cars are very quirky, but every time I open the garage it puts a smile on my face... it’s hard to deny how cool they are! BTW, you once again forgot the doors lifting at very high speeds! 😂

    • @CamThai
      @CamThai  5 років тому

      @SS OFFSHORE - I verified my doors don’t lift at 120mph. Maybe they will at higher speeds 🤷🏻‍♂️

    • @Fliszt88
      @Fliszt88 5 років тому

      I have been thinking about a possible quick fix for the lifting doors at a higher speed. Not elaborate but you could possibly use two small brackets; one for the door and one for the body, and connect the two with a quick release pin on the top rear corner of the doors. Simply insert the pins through the two brackets when you think you might be going a bit faster than say, highway speeds ;) You can keep the pins out of the brackets for regular driving, and if you attach a small steel cable to the heads of the quick disconnect pins, you won’t have to worry about them being loose or getting lost. This seems to work very well on the H60 Jayhawk helicopters I work / fly on. The only downfall I can see is exiting the vehicle in an emergency situation, or for emergency crews to get the door open from the outside if necessary. If you have the two-piece windows it could be possible to get to the quick release pins from the outside.

    • @Steve_643
      @Steve_643 4 роки тому

      CorvetteCody put the brackets on the inside of the SLC around the top of the door. You might have to modify the inner tube and door panel to have a solid place to mount it but definitely want it accessible Incase of a roll over and you need to open that door. You also might want to have some cabin pressure relief vents, at high speed there could be a lot of air coming from your hvac system and the fact it’s a kit car probably isn’t air tight! Must be allowing a lot of air in the front of the cabin with nowhere to escape considering your engine firewall is probably the only air tight barrier in your car. You could mount some relief vents with pressure activated valve under the seats so there out of sight.

    Im sure the power yiu have in it still destroys 98% of the cars out there..especially when it comes to handling and reliability..
    How much did you spend on it when all is said and done ( under 80K not counting your time )
    I wonder how it would do compared to the V6 turbo Radical car..
    It is the SLC or Radical im considering..
    Though im thinking the SLC is more favorable in reliability..both should be about as quick though the Radical will handle better..yet the SLC is a far better price and bargin..
    Your thoughts ?

    • @CamThai
      @CamThai  5 років тому +2

      @MrBOB39 - thanks for the kind words about my build! The radical and SLC (can) be very different cars. My SLC was built to be a very capable street car but it is not an all-out track/race car. There are many things I did that compromised performance in favor of streetability. The radical has fewer provisions for compromise, it's a very focused track car that can be plated and driven on the street. I think you would likely have to invest a fair amount of cost and effort to make it a "comfortable" street car, insofar as these can be made comfortable. Even mine would not be well suited for most drivers. Either car, you have to be prepared for it to not be well suited for getting groceries (unless the grocery store is on the other side of a mountain pass). I enjoy driving my car to and through the canyons and the way it is currently configured lets me do this. I would make several changes if I wanted it to be a more serious track car. Whichever decision you go with, it will be a fun journey with many challenges! If you have more questions feel free to reach out to me via my blog or on the GT40s website. Good luck!

      @Infinite Reality - it can be done without too much pain, you'll need to drop your a-pillar covers and remove the upper panel to get access to the rear cross bar. Weld a tube off the cross bar and cut a hole in your tub so it can stick out. The platform/harness I have for the child seat mounts using the same holes that my seat mounts to.

      @@CamThai umm, either one is not very flattering for you. I'd hope you put the proper engine in it (based off sound, you did) therefor just a little stick practice (I wouldn't practice on your custom built race car though lol).

      Cakes Maker - No no, I’m perfectly good with the score I gave it. It’s cool, not everyone gets my sense of humor. Not sure how you can figure out if an engine is well suited to a car based on poor audio quality but I’ve never tried designing a machine based on sound. And I get plenty of stick practice!

    This carbon fiber issue is so overrated people failed to realize that cutting too much weight off a vehicle with so much power do have a deathamential effects whereas the wings and other components doesn't perform as they should've all because of power to weight ratio
