Thanks for explaining this, Dan! I've been making gen art for about a year and didn't know what that was all about. 😆 It seems like short form and long form aren't great names for what they are. Maybe curated and non-curated would be better. I really would like to see a platform where the user can pick options and then run through variations until they find one they like, and then mint that. If such a thing exists, let me know. I find it annoying having to reduce creative possibilities in order to eliminate stinkers, and the process for offering curated pieces seems very tedious, at least on objkt.
Well, fxhash is going to have fx(params) soon, which will allow the user to set certain parameters that'll you'll be able to pull into code.
So for example, if you had a "const Chaotic = fxrand()" value, you could now allow the user to set that value, and you'll pull it in with something like "const Chaotic = fxparams.chaotic" (not sure exactly how the syntax will go).
You'll be able to let them select more general things, and then do your own generative stuff after that. Or let them set very specific values that really nail down the output.
I reckon just hang tight for a few more weeks to see if fxhash brings in what you need, (and start thinking about how you could use it).

Wait so 1/1 (one of one’s) are short form? I guess that means because of the curation step each output picked becomes a 1/1. And a full collection of output from that algorithm is really just each, or all, 1/1s of a project/algorithm then.
Yeah, kinda of. Naming is tricky in generative art. So a genart drop with like 250 different outputs, is often called 1 of 1 of x, because each one is a one-off, but there are a lot of different one-offs 😁
Short-Form means the artist gets to cherry-pick the results and sells maybe just one of the outputs. Even if they sell 100 of that single output. Lots of people throw the term "1 of 1" around, so it can legitimately mean different things at different times.
Funny thing is this is exactly part of evolutionary biology. As in I could use the same figures to explain how evolution works. I hope generative artists pick up on modern evolutionary biology, because there still a few more modes possible, specially if recombination (remix) is involved.
Yup, the artist William Latham was doing this a good 30 years ago (and still going), with "Evolutionary art" and back then it was called also called "Genetic art" where you'd "breed" and mutate the outputs as new inputs, while trying to avoid local maximums. Good stuff and it's fun to see the transition from genetic to generative.
