Thanks for the shout-out to WTA! I'm a regular volunteer and it made me so happy to hear our work mentioned on the channel ☺️ Have you ever thought about trying a day of trail maintenance? Could be a fun video for the channel. We have work parties all over the state all year long, so there are lots of opportunities!
2:46 those are thimbleberries (Rubus parviflorus)! Those leaves are big and kind of look like a fun cross between vine maple and big leaf maple leaves. the berries look like a thimble! salmonberries (Rubus spectabilis) look a lot like raspberries, and the foliage is three leaflets to a leaf, the bottom two kinda look like butterfly wings!
I am sitting here eating Dunkin’ for breakfast with my husband and he hears Miranda describing the backcountry toilet process and is like “What on earth are you watching?” 😂😂😂
Thank you, WTA for your work. I saw this system for the first time in Canadian National Parks. They know really what they're doing there regarding human waste. I'm glad this is now coming to America's National Parks and other sites.
There is a story about a momma bear telling her cubs a fancyful tale when the cubs asked, "C'mon, Mom, is that really true?", to which she replied, "Sure, does Miranda poop in the woods?"
I vote for a remake of this one once its rebuilt! Four part series instead of three. And I would not be opposed to this being a continued series on your channel. Oh ya! And I loved that Rainer pointed out poop being flown out for free when helicopter tours are so expensive. But also really glad to hear it gets flown out and not carried out by human or mule. I was concerned about that.
Ohmygosh ohmygosh ohmygosh!!! Miranda! Image lake in glacier peak wilderness! The backcountry bathroom there has got to be a 10/10 for all your categories… maybe besides access, you’d definitely need to make it a part of a backpacking trip - hoping it made this series, or comes up in a part 2!!!
I hope to see more of these in the PNW. Saw WAY too much unburied human waste and used TP on my last backpacking trip. It was so discouraging to see and smell.
Just got back from kayaking the Ruby-Horsethief Canyon section of the Colorado River. You can't dig holes on any section of this canyon, so you have to carry wag bags or a portable toilet. We opted to rent a portable toilet. Would not recommend. Though you could set up the toilet wherever you wanted, so we had some epic river views. Would highly recommend kayaking this canyon. So beautiful and so easy for kayaking beginners.
Thank you Miranda, Rainer, Abby, Chelsea, Kyle, Katie, and Tucker for all your hard work! I cannot wait for the big #2! These are the proper people to produce perfect poo-pportunities for all poo tubers. ♡
Outstanding video. Very few hiking, bikepacking you tubers mention pooping (where and how). You cover all the basis. Thanks to you I purchased the Happy Bottom backcountry bidet.🥰. Best thing ever👍 Love your positivity.
Dear Miranda and Rainer (et. al.), You NEVER fail to make me smile and laugh out loud!! Thank you for that!!! Can you imagine the thought process of those who constructed these privies for us--"We know people will have to poop up here; let's make it extra special nice for them!" Thank you, WTA! And thank you, Miranda and Co., for the GREAT work you do for us! "Feces you next time!" (You're right, these jokes DO write themselves! Hahahahaha! 🤣❤
Just finished though hiking the Appalachian Trail and I can tell you I had the opportunity to experience some nice, some great and some just disgusting privies along the way. One that stands out was in VA, top of a mountain next to a stone shelter (used to be a Ranger's house). As you sat and did you business you could leave the door open and look out across a beautiful valley and watch the sun set. Yep, I kept the door open and it was GREAT. Nice video. Try hiking with trekking poles, they do help.
@@MirandaGoesOutside The irony of finding thimbleberries, regarded as nature's backup toilet paper, I thought was hilarious when you consider the video. For people who don't know, their the leaves are nice and soft and are perfectly safe to use.
When my sib and I were kids any time we found ripe thimbleberries (which as an outdoorsy family in western WA was very often) we had to pick them and put them on our fingers like they were actual thimbles, never got old.
There should be a guide book on outdoor toilets.😂🤔. Thanks again for “demystifying” pooping in the outdoors. My daughters and I love your videos and we “can’t wait” to watch the rest of this series.
You should hike the Lake Superior trail in the porcupine mountains of the upper peninsula. There’s a fella up there that poops on logs and benches all along the trail.
nice work WTA you rock, i wouldn't have ever thought the poo gets air lifted out i just presumed a composter ( or com-poo-ster) type set-up, oh no i've caught the poo-pun virus, keep doing great work Miranda 🥰
@@MirandaGoesOutside Oh ok. Mom duties first. Taking Milo with you guys can be an option lol. Im sure there are ppl who would like to know how camping with kids would be like.
I'm very excited about the new toilet system. Is so interesting how they need to solve this problem, that's so cringy for most to think about. 🙏 respect.
The group site toilet at Indian Bar Camp on the Wonderland Trail in Mt Rainier NP, best I have been to by far. My recommendation is to hike in from the White River side and camp at Summerland before heading over the pass to Indian Bar 👍
I experienced a conveyer belt toilet in Zion NP, on the Angel's Landing hike! (Before the chains, not at the top) I had never heard of it, quite a cool system! 💩
It's been a while since I have been to Gothic Basin. Maybe 2003 was the last time. Now that I live on the Olympic Peninsula I rarely backpack in the Cascades. Image Lake used to have an open privy that faced Glacier Peak, a stunning view to have as one does their duty. Or is that doodie? Anyway, don't know if it is still there or in the same place.
Are they "bathrooms" or would a better word be "latrines" or "rest stations"? Maybe "relief location"? I like " privy" or "outdoor toilet" or "outdoor potty".
So confused that I've been to Gothic a bunch of times and never knew that toilet was there. Silver lake (same trailhead as Gothic) has a pretty great pit toilet view though
Great series Miranda! I need all the ‘poop’ knowledge I can get. One question though after seeing your poop in the woods videos is what do you do with your pants? I have accidentally peed on mine and am curious to know the secret to a successful ‘dry clothing’ 💩 Taking them off just isn’t a convenient option most of the time. Thanks!

@@MirandaGoesOutside You made a typo should be “absolute poofection” !!!
It’d be awesome if Miranda and Crew made a video on trail work/conservation organizations.

Now that she has this official channel, it was only a matter of time before before poop floated to the top of the filming priorities. :)
I hoped burping would be first but the poop lady has her own agenda.
This is a masterpiece! Ranier is a regular Stanley Poobrick!
Thank you for sharing your poopertunities with us! May you have many more, great work Miranda you got a new fan.

Never thought I'd need a backpacking video on the wonders of out-houses but I'm here for it and thoroughly intrigued.
See! Backcountry pooping can be a joy!🎉
Oh and " bridge, bridge, bridge, " is my chant now when I cross trail bridges ❤
Yay!! Bring the bridge chanting to all bridges everywhere! 🥳

A loo with a view! (loo - slang for toilet in England) Gothic Basin looks lovely!
Picture perfect panorama view from the pooper.
I was just there yesterday and the new fancy toilet isn't up yet, just kind of a standard box. Still a pretty epic view!

@MirandaGoesOutside idk what yalls experience has been but the poopers inthe enchantments have been absolutely blasted id rate it 💩out of 💩💩💩💩💩

What a fun series visiting all of the best outdoor loos in the world would be.
You should visit the Boundary Waters in Minnesota... each US campsite has its own very natural privy! No walls, no doors, very picturesque!
That was entertaining and informative as always. Rest in Pieces Gothic Valley toilet. Don't take it poo-sinal.

Guernsey Reservoir in Wyoming has one of the most scenic ones.
Worth considering the road trip
The toilet at Chasm Lake in RMNP has the conveyor belt. It was so cool!
