Thus was Rob Tapert's greatest mistake in killing off his wife. Considering that later Lucy did agree that perhaps it was a bad ending. All she had to do was come back from the dead like every other season and life would have been good.

I've only watched this episode once. It was the first time that it aired, Pt 1 & 2. I ended up getting a job 3 years into Xena, and I would always ask my mom to record it for me so I wouldn't miss an episode. I was 14 this show started. I've only watched A Friend in Need once, and to this day, I still can't watch it again. It hurt me so much. This show meant so much to me as a kid, and even now.

based on the ending they gave us the fans I'd have liked to have seen Xena reunite with her son Solon in the elesion fields after she vanishes from Gabrielles side at sunset

I loved the show but hated this episode. They should have ended Xena in Greece, not Japan. The show never felt the same after the Twilight. It felt like they deflated what made the Xenaverse so unique: the idea that the gods could show up at any time. I wanted FAR more of Athena and Artemis that what we got. Ending the show in a foreign land with an unfamiliar villain was just an odd choice. I would have rather seen Callisto, Ares, Alti or even Hope one last time.

Yeah it wasn't a good choice to not end it in Greece. It feels like a different show with just xena and gabrielle thrown in. A finale honors the past and legacy.

I really would've liked to have heard them talk about the actual story ending in addition to the making of it. Also wish they would all get together and make just one more episode where they reunite Xena and Gabrielle. Even if it's like 30 years later in the afterlife or something idk haha Such an epic series and story of love and enlightenment. There's really nothing else that comes close.

Notice how there’s all this stuff they wish they could’ve done differently?? That’s because the story sucked. Why did Xena have to stay dead to avenge 40,000 people who tried to kill her while doing an honorable burial for her friend?? Never made sense. If Xena was going to die it needed to be in an honorable fight not being outnumbered 100 to 1.

Xena should not have gotten killed off. But I will say that they both made sure they got the kisses in even though Rob didn't want to do this scene. Sure would like to see that whole kissing sequence. Bet it was sizzling! Ya think?
