Showed this song to my grandpal (82nd airborne korean combat vet) and my father (82nd airborne conflict of Grenada) and both of them had tears in their eyes and said that's one hell of a war hymn and it hit deep especially the end. "His foods not to be mine , because I cursed his name every chance that I could and I recon that's why I'm still alive" both of them have passed away in the last 2yrs of cancer😔 miss them deeply I felt like I was robbed by the man upstairs only being 28yrs old lost two of the men that I looked up to. This song reminds me of them and I get teary eyed each time I hear it. "Ife is short Despite of your plans So tell the girls they're pretty while you can 'cause one day they're gone And all you got left Some empty bottles and an old country song Plays on and on" ❣️❣️❣️❣️
@greg wigren Thanks so much for listening! I put out a new album a few months ago called California Mistake. There’s some acoustic tunes on there you might like as well!
Fought in OEF. I can't imagine what it must have been like to go through WWII, or Vietnam, or... just... Christ, this song is putting me back in that headspace; and I know that I never had it nearly as bad as so many others who fought before me. God, I might actually cry. Fuck.
I served OEF also i can't imagine what they had this song is beautiful just saw them in November and had to go to the restroom and take a few minutes to be able to return to watch the rest of the show
I absolutely love this song. As a war vet, I love this guy. I joined a little earlier though, I was 17 in 2002 and went to Basic in Fort Leonard Wood, MO. I watched Lucero in Fayetteville, AR a couple years back. This was their last, but best song they played. Hats off to these guys. Their music is appreciated.
My buddy just sent me this after I sent him the ghosts of you by my chemical romance because I love that video. He was like hey check this out he wrote this about his grandfather. What a moving touching tribute to our veterans well done.
thanks for your comment i had a rough day and was listening to this amazing song to try to forget but your mention of perspective did what i was hoping this song would
my grandad, on my dads side, was a D-day veteran,. with the 56th infantry attached to the 7th armoured division. i know its a cliche but they really were the greatest generation. people like us cant even begin to imagine what hell they must have gone through. whenever i hear this it always makes me think of him. i just wish he could have lived long enough for me to tell him this but from the bottom of my heart, THANKYOU GRANDAD!!!!
Every damn time, honestly. Makes me think of my grandad and what he went through in France and Germany, I'm sure it hits a lot of people because of that.
Derrek L I can't imagine what it was like during WWII. Iwo JIma, the pacific, europe, etc.. Just unreal when you really take a step back and think about what they did.
My grandfather (Mom's dad) was a D-Day vet. I was having a helluva day on June 6 last year, reflected on the day grandpa was having seventy years before and promptly quit feeling sorry for myself. However necessary that war may have been, it wasn't glory. It was absolute terror, like all of them. He almost never talked about it.
Ben Nichols can write a damn song. This may not be my favorite (it still kills me), but this is a killer version. Perhaps, i should talk to the guy that i know that plays accordion....

Wow this has to be the most well worded song I've ever heard about WW2. Especially the last verse and the last chorus..
74 years ago today! Grateful for those boys on this day!
Saw him play this last night in Denver.
As good as a war hymn can get... Well done Ben. Great show last night

missed it by a couple of day, but 77 years ago, i am still grateful for those boy who made the ultimate sacrifice.
Veterans Day 2013, thanks guys.
This is likely the best song ever and we are singing along
Some songs allow us to check our perspective, heal and move on. Well done. Thank you.

We stand for what's good and right, but what's right sometimes isn't good.

I like hearing thr "remade" version of this song. Bens voice sounds so mich different
I would love to sit and listen to the story behind this song...
@Jimmy Dodd
Yeah kinda got that part Capt. Obvious....
I don't bitch about hangovers anymore
Or bitch about many things after learning about solider experiences in WWI and WWII.. This song does it justice.

Accordion is too loud
i love lucero, but i think he needs to start paying some serious attention to the health of his voice.
