I always come back to this song at least once a week, for that I’m glad it’s never been on any popular streaming service because I’d over play it. Ride somehow can voice what aggression I’ve bottled within myself. Everything MC Ride from “dismiss this life, worship death” in this track “to try not to dwell on myself my empty shell shedding me” in Artificial Death it’s a curiosity really how talented and misunderstood Death Grips is.

"in the time before time eyes 'bove which horns curve like psychotropic scythes and smell of torn flesh bled dry by hell swarms of pestis flies vomiting forth flames lit by an older than ancient force that slays this life with no remorse" Ride is seriously amazing at writing lyrics. The imagery here and throughout the entire song is fantastic.
Now I'm not too big into the rap scene, I know a bit of Brockhampton, Eminem, Kendrick lamar and shit, and of course Death Grips. Now the things I listed are about as different as lemons and apples but this track is the most visceral, angry, soulful flow I've ever heard. There is not a single drop of corporate mindset in this track. The verse is 2-3x longer than the chorus, and it just beats you over the head again and again with the most beastial lyricism I've ever seen in a track period.
As a rock/metal oriented music guy, I’m surprised I even ended up checking out this album. I have never found my own tastes in rap/anything experimental like this, definitely gonna continue with it 🤘
It's the horns, the droning ambient synth in the background, the incredibly dark and apocalyptic lyrics, the occasional rising tones and the almost hypnotic chanting of "God is watching" that blends in with the rest of this hellish combination of noises that create a cacophony of hellish darkness and bleak evil.
Im so grateful that my brother showed me this when i was 12. By the third listen I was hooked and listened to the album outside everyday for months until the next album dropped. I felt like such a freak at that time and these tracks gave me so much comfort and made me realize theres other people that feel like I did. Thank you so much for the music Death grips.
This is the best song ive ever heard I love the contradiction of “God is watching” “To pray is to accept defeat” He aint tellin u shit, hes laying out the options for you to choose your own path in life I think this song is legit just “be ur own person”
"I am the beast I worship" Is such a motivational line weirdly enough It's saying "Be whatever the fuck you want to be and worship yourself for it" It's beautiful
To pray is to accept defeat ISNT contradictory to Christian beliefs. We surrender that we cannot do shit ourselves so we ask God to help us or to do it.
I don't think it's a contradiction. It's two sides of the same coin, it implies God (if he exists) is indeed watching, but he doesn't really give a toss about your prayers, praying is simply an admission that you cannot handle his challenge.

Made to make me shine as a testament
To why the ways of the blind will never get

Exhaled like spells from the endlessness
In the bottomless wells of emptiness
Channeled to invoke what we represent

Creeping fire
Seizing power
Riders of the lupus hour
Eye on palm
Time is gone

Fly til dawn

In the time before time eyes 'bove which horns
Curve like psychotropic scythes
And smell of torn flesh bled dry
By hell swarms of pests flies
Vomiting forth flames lit by
An older than ancient force
That slays this life with no remorse
The spiral storm
Of flames inside
The torch I raise
The force I ride
Feel my vessel go up in flames
Flesh torch lit by thee unnamed
Direct connection to the source
Vestment of unnatural force
Forever burning black torch
Wisdom of the old and true
Possessed by the chosen few
Shining to reveal the ways
Of a darkness that pervades
All that is and ever was
Inferno of witches blood
Worship is not on bended knee
Nature knows not of mercy
To pray is to accept defeat
Power pisses on the weak
Bow and beheaded by the beast
Beggar on a bitches leash
Scum is desperate for relief
Worship is the way I ride
Witching currents through the eye
Of storms that force the false to die
Worship the flames with which I rise
Into apocalyptic skies
Harsh winds flay mine flesh to bone
In splintered skeleton I roam
Wastelands with not to call my own
But the path I walk alone
The hunger burns, within my gut
As my bones turn into dust
And I know soon come my time
For in mine void a pale horse burns
But I fear not the time I'm taken
Past the point of no return
Wage war like no tomorrow, know well there wont we one
For all who deny the struggle
The triumphant overcome
I close my eyes and seize it
I clench my fists and beat it
I light my torch and burn it
I am the beast I worship
I am the beast I worship
fucking Death Grips man..I wish they had more interviews MC Ride seems like an interesting guy
That's the appeal though. They're mysterious, they have you coming back for more.
"I'm a very private person," says Burnett. "I have very few people that I call my friends. I'm very distrustful of human beings in general; I'm very distrustful of media. I have no interest in sharing my personal life with the world. Zero."
from a spin article
ROhjklyuiop Yet...he creates music.
Oceanrust4 yeah, he creates music, he has already given to us more than we deserve, we shouldnt expect him to open up about his private life too
Is his music not personal?
I always come back to this song at least once a week, for that I’m glad it’s never been on any popular streaming service because I’d over play it. Ride somehow can voice what aggression I’ve bottled within myself. Everything MC Ride from “dismiss this life, worship death” in this track “to try not to dwell on myself my empty shell shedding me” in Artificial Death it’s a curiosity really how talented and misunderstood Death Grips is.
Something about the line “I am the beast I worship” hits me hard
2018: wow that sample of Charles Manson is cool
2020: dear god it's Joe Biden
Jesse Hamilton you love to see the Joementum.
riden with biden
At least Charles Manson actually had a functioning train of thought
Best laugh of the day for me.

I have no fucking clue about Hip Hop, and I just discovered this band 2 weeks ago, cuz I'm an out-of-touch old fart. All I have to say is:
*Holy shit.*
how old are you?
35 :D
+InnerPartisian You're not old, I'm 32 and I don't wanna feel older then I am now.
2 of the 3 members of dg are older than you

The implementation of the Charles Manson soundbite in the intro is GENIUS.
They stole that idea from the Jane's Addiction song "Ted Just Admit It", which is off of the same album that the sample in Beware is from ("Up the Beach")

Kind of sad that I’ll never have the opportunity to hear this for the first time again
"Directed by Flatlander" nice work, like the very minimalistic style of this music video
:)
This is a great track. Just started to listen to Death Grips. Awe-inspiring.

Sam Hyde got me into DG
Your crush: I love rapping to my favourite songs!
You, trying to impress her: *recites the entire Charles Manson monologue*
First song of their first album, and its still amazing to see that many new people are still getting into death grips after their first time listening to this amalgamation
I wonder if Stefan, Zach, and Andy knew what they were doing when they made this album. This is music that'll be remembered for centuries.
This song actually gets better with every single listen, truly one of DG's best
Jane's Addiction - Up The Beach
the bassline
Yeah, and maybe like a little snippet of guitar in there too. Song kicks ass though.
10 years and still as good as the day it was released
shms
I have a tendency to listen to this song whenever I'm doing something life-changing, which -if you're in your early 20's- tends to happen a lot.
I listen to this song when my life is falling apart, which also tends to happen a lot
Mid 20's
I'm reading this being 23 years old and just having taken a big change in my life a few hours ago and riding this song on repeat. You speak the truth Mr Pivot.
This aged a lot better than dubstep
Not really
@@daybrink1267 if you think dubstep aged better than one of the best experimental hip hop albums ever I got news for you dawg
@@hopnod777 I don't think Exmilitary aged poorly, I take issue with the concept that dubstep didn't age well. These are two idiotic things to compare because Exmilitary is a single album and Dubstep is a subgenre of EDM. Dubstep grows and evolves on its own and is constantly becoming something new and different (100 Gecs, for example). Exmilitary will never change because it is one album.
Fake dubstep maybe, I'm still bumpin that Burial LP to this day
@@MasDouc genres change. Dubstep changed. Dubstep now is not fake dubstep, nor is Burial. They just different. Same thing happens in every genre.

and smell of torn flesh bled dry

Ride is seriously amazing at writing lyrics.

I have never found my own tastes in rap/anything experimental like this, definitely gonna continue with it 🤘
listening to this in the morning while making yourself green tea with ginger is truely a new form of meditation
Fuck. There's something about this song I can't explain. It's so ominous. Almost scary. I love it.
I think its the ambiant horn that desends in the background
It's the horns, the droning ambient synth in the background, the incredibly dark and apocalyptic lyrics, the occasional rising tones and the almost hypnotic chanting of "God is watching" that blends in with the rest of this hellish combination of noises that create a cacophony of hellish darkness and bleak evil.
@@leonthethird7494 the horns and (BEWARE, GOD IS WATCHING) shit is sampled from the song: Dicky Burton - God Is Watching You
@@thekeyandthegate4093 check out the original song they got the music from: Up The Beach by Jane's Addiction, it's an epic song!

"to pray is to accept defeat" drops incredibly hard, and i love it
Im so grateful that my brother showed me this when i was 12. By the third listen I was hooked and listened to the album outside everyday for months until the next album dropped.
I felt like such a freak at that time and these tracks gave me so much comfort and made me realize theres other people that feel like I did. Thank you so much for the music Death grips.
this is wholesome
This is the best song ive ever heard
I love the contradiction of
“God is watching”
“To pray is to accept defeat”
He aint tellin u shit, hes laying out the options for you to choose your own path in life
I think this song is legit just “be ur own person”
"I am the beast I worship" Is such a motivational line weirdly enough
It's saying "Be whatever the fuck you want to be and worship yourself for it"
It's beautiful
To pray is to accept defeat ISNT contradictory to Christian beliefs. We surrender that we cannot do shit ourselves so we ask God to help us or to do it.
I don't think it's a contradiction. It's two sides of the same coin, it implies God (if he exists) is indeed watching, but he doesn't really give a toss about your prayers, praying is simply an admission that you cannot handle his challenge.
I go about my day pretty normal, like I'm a normal guy, I'm a swell guy...
But when I get a little sugar in me..
I close my eyes and zerk it
To pray is to accept defeat, such a great line
this is one HELL of a opening track on a mixtape that would make this group known to the public, god damn!!!!!
