    • @greyone308
      @greyone308 5 років тому +1

      Digital PPM meters are very cheap(25$). 0-300 ppm is good for babies, above that its hard for the youngling to feed due to heavy osmotic pressure. 300-600 good for veg weeks, 600-1200 ppm good for blooming, should be easy to eat for well grown plants. after 1200 only vines, trees and berries can handle higher PPM numbers.
      Very important to flush well if you hit 1200-1500 ppm otherwise you will ruin the expression of flavinoids by masking.

    DUDE you really helped me! This is such key info.
    And if you happen to have your water softened, where calcium and magnesium are stripped from the water, and then decide to grow in coco, you got a double whammy of no Cal mag. One solution could be to grind up eggshells to a fine dust and then mix in as atop dry amendment? I've not tried this though.
    sensi calmag does work well for me, but would prefer an organic alternative.

    Can you recommend a High quality soil ? IVe made my own for years. I use Faffards pink bag because its a soil without fertilizers . I add a quart of Perlite to a 10 gallon pale , I add 2 quarts of Peat Moss , 1 tbsp of Blood Meal, 1 tbsp of bone meal , stir it very well and my plants have thrived . I feel ya on Fox farms soil , Ive tried using there ocean forest and just had numerous deficiency issues through the grows, I just seemed to chase my tail through every grow i did with FF.

    Sorry for necro but what about calmag in hard water ? For example, General Hydroponics does Tripart where Micro has version for soft and hard water. If my base tap water has a lot of calcium, lets say 92mg/L , im adviced by (gh) to use hard water version so there is less nutrients in it because my water has plenty of it. But i still see people using calmag in hard water. From what i read, calcium in tap water has bigger molecules which cannot be absorbed by root pores. Adding another calmag on top of it will create snowball effect and those big molecules will stick to small and nutrient lock other nutrients in solution. Soft version of Micro (for RO water etc) has enough calcium and adding calmag is not recommended. Its very confusing.

    The solution to not having calcium problems is to never let coco dry out too much and have plenty of drain with every feed. Often the problem is that the calcium thats locked up is depleted when drying out, so when watered again the CEC will act like a sponge and suck up all the calcium. I never used calmag in coco and I have no problems, but ofc my nutrients contain calcium and magnesium already.

      Coco substrate absorbs calcium making less available to the plant. Therefore if using a synthetic nutrient line, it is recommended to add a Calcium supplement. I like CaliMagic, works well. I hope you understand ppm. The feedings of nutes in the beginning is not heavy, first 2 weeks 250ppm should be target.

    @9:00 This information regarding Coco is incorrect. Coco has a HIGH Cation Exchange Capacity meaning Coco has many anion sites that want to be bonded to positively charged ions aka cations. Calcium (Ca) and Magnesium (Mg) are both cations with double positive charges thus Coco requiring it's own supply of Calcium and Magnesium to fill these sites before the plant will have access to these ions for it's own use. As these anion sites are satisfied with Calcium and Magnesium they release their weaker bonds to Sodium (Na) and Phosphorous (P) and hold on tight to their new bonds with the Calcium and Magnesium.

      Check your nutrient brands website for feed scheduling and dosage... that’ll give you a base to go by. Typically 1200ppm (everything together) is used in flower, and cutting that ratio for smaller or less mature plants.

    • @Des420
      @Des420 6 років тому +1

      If you're using tap water, then most likely you don't need it at all... But if you're using RO or distilled water, then you should use 200 to 250 ppms of CalMag, added before your nutrients.
