They should not have killed off Bobby in a manner that left no possibility of him returning. Even if it was what Patrick Duffy wanted, the producers should have refused. They should have told him that he could not be certain how he would feel down the line and they needed to keep their future options open. Not finding a body after an explosion would certainly have sufficed. Once that decision was made in 1985, there was a big decision to be made in 1986 when Patrick agreed to return. Not bringing him back was not a good option. Perhaps he could have played a long-lost twin. The entire return would have gone differently. There would have been no shower scene. And it might have taken a large part--or all--of the first season until the Ewings finally met him, face to face. During that time, they could have fleshed out the character, and allowed us to know him and his entire backstory, as well as the complex life he was living. They could even have tied it into the whole Wes Parmalee story, somehow. Maybe dealing with Parmalee makes them more skeptical of the new Patrick Duffy character, which in turn makes him more hostile towards them. This dynamic could have driven the show for years. And people would have been endlessly debating whether Duffy was better as Bobby or the new character. This certainly would have made Pam's departure less depressing, with the way she abandoned her family. The character was forever altered in her absence, after she left the show. Without Bobby there, she and Christopher could have quietly moved away. Of course, the producers could not have known that in 1986 when making their decision, and even if they had, they still probably would have done it exactly the same way. I tend to think that it was better to bring Bobby back the way that they did, based on what they knew in 1986 when making the decision. With the benefit of hindsight, it would have been better to bring him back as someone else, given how that would have impacted the way Victoria Principal's departure played out and how Pam left the show. All that being said, the real mistake was made in 1985 when he was killed off without leaving a plausible basis for saying that he had survived and was returning.

the foresight was the responsibility of the producers that shld have been more creative with duffy's departure from the show...death was way too final and they left themselves no latitude if duffy decided to return...they caught a serious break cause duffy elected to return the following season after his departure....what he decided after 2-3 seasons later...no way the cld make the last z seasons a dream season...a dream season..brilliant? ..that's a serious matter of opinion because it turned off a lot of viewers and the show began to decline in the ratings..

It would have been best to let Bobby RIP and in the long run it would have been better for the show. The dream thing turned Dallas into a joke.
They could have had a doppelgänger storyline like Dynasty did with Krystle- the only difference being we the viewers were unaware that a lookalike had swapped places with Bobby who was being held captive somewhere....and a year later having still been held captive, escapes to return to Dallas. Bobby’s death speech wouldn’t make sense obviously- but still I’d have preferred this story to the dream.
The writers who killed Bobby off in the first place are really responsible for the fiasco not the ones who had to come up with a plausible return. He could have gone missing like Jock for a year to give the writers time to see how the audience reacted to the show without Bobby. they made a mistake of having him killed off so overtly
+wild 72 they should have had Bobby go into a coma while gone from the show.. then have him come out of it when he returned. I think that would have been a better idea.
I know how ridiculous the dream thing is in the first place...but they should have least had katherine attempt the rundown AFTER the dream so bobby could do a 'do over'
I only wish for the sake of continuity that Pam had the same haircut as she did when Bobby “died”. The bob with the bangs, it was one of her better styles, played up her beautiful bone structure. It would have been easier to swallow this crazy development if the dreamer looked the same as when she fell asleep, just sayin.
It would have been funny if Patrick would have came back as Man from Atlantis, instead of Bobby. Course it wouldn't make any sense, but, it was a dream after all!
Pam should not be moving a man with a potential spine injury. Also, the gardener seemed very concerned about pulling the wig off Katherine. If I went to assist someone after they’ve been in a car crash, the first thing i would do is not to pull the person’s wig off.
They say it was all a dream in Pam's head but I choose to believe Pam was suffering from a Mandela Effect. For a year she phased into a parallel Universe where Bobby died and then returned for reasons not fully understood. It's plausible that mysterious Demon Adam from the series finale had a hand in this.
Why didn't Bobby just tell out to Pam straight away the car was coming to her and all of a sudden the first Miss Ellie was back at the funeral this was when the series started to get ruined and a bad upload of this when Bobby came back
Even though this was the dream season, I think this is one of the first times that JR was genuine about caring for someone.

I remember JR turning good.
Mr Han Man , didn't JR get kneed by his wife?
The writers who killed Bobby off in the first place are really responsible for the fiasco not the ones who had to come up with a plausible return.
He could have gone missing like Jock for a year to give the writers time to see how the audience reacted to the show without Bobby. they made a mistake of having him killed off so overtly
+wild 72 they should have had Bobby go into a coma while gone from the show.. then have him come out of it when he returned. I think that would have been a better idea.
I was young when Dallas was on. Why did Patrick Duffy leave the show?
+Athrough Z he was tired and worn out and wanted to move on to other projects.
He nailed the role of Frank Lambert on Step By Step.
+wild 72 Yeah, but when an actor quits they like to send an "UP YOURS" card
It was not seen here, but the next season began right after they were at the hospital with Miss Ellie wearing a different outfit.
♥️🤗👌
I know how ridiculous the dream thing is in the first place...but they should have least had katherine attempt the rundown AFTER the dream so bobby could do a 'do over'
I only wish for the sake of continuity that Pam had the same haircut as she did when Bobby “died”. The bob with the bangs, it was one of her better styles, played up her beautiful bone structure. It would have been easier to swallow this crazy development if the dreamer looked the same as when she fell asleep, just sayin.
Not to mention that Bobby left Pam's wearing different clothes than he arrived in the previous night 🤣
& that her bedroom when she woke up was the exact same as when she went to bed!
i went to school with a girl who looked like pam ,,, every guy was trying to get with her,,, POOR GIRL was tired
We're you lucky though?
was it me... i got the same....
Jaa nee, iss klar!!
Wow and Miss Ellie looks like a different person at the funeral lol
The original Miss Ellie, played by Barbara Bel geddes had returned to the show.
The original Miss Ellie, played by Barbara Bel geddes had returned to the show.
Sylvester Stallone was good in that episode and bill clinton
I hate dis scene!! Was sooo happy when he, cameback.
Would have been more fun if it was a psychotic delusion by Pam and not a dream.
Yes Bobby returns
JR always got punch up from Bobby lol
This scene is a little confusing was Katherine trying to kill Pam was she trying to kill Bobby or both of them?
Katherine was trying to kill Pam.
They should have taped the scene agian when he died so her hair was different
It would have been funny if Patrick would have came back as Man from Atlantis, instead of Bobby. Course it wouldn't make any sense, but, it was a dream after all!
Barrrrrrrbieee
I didn't see pam look down at Bobbys hanging 10
What’s Family Guy? ;) 😂
Bobby and JR both attended each other’s funeral… that’s gotta be a first 🤔
At least we know that they cared about each other.
Not likely
A better come back would have been that he was in witness protection so he could testify but this just killed the show.
Sajnáltam hogy alakult a sorozat? Minek?
They should've brought him back as a evil twin brother no one knew about...made him more evil than JR!
Why no CPR?
That would not of helped
Dallas jumps the shark
JR was the greatest.
Why didn't Bobby just tell out to Pam straight away the car was coming to her and all of a sudden the first Miss Ellie was back at the funeral this was when the series started to get ruined and a bad upload of this when Bobby came back
