Why did Djokovic need a Wildcard?
He was NOT on the entry list from 6 weeks ago so needed a wildcard to play the event last minute
To me this screams positive mindset. Interesting to see how Nole finds form so close to a Major.
True, it shows that he still sincerely cares about winning. Which sounds stupid but when you’ve won so much you’d think he might lose motivation at some point
Dude, this screams desperation. Never in his entire career has he gotten this deep into a year without a title. Nole is toast.

Djokovic has decided to play to get some form before RG. Let's see how he gets on. He should feel the pressure, he's lost a few matches and I think it's right thing for him, he needs it.
I understand the concerns of injury but at this point I think he needs any type of successful competitive play before RG

I think he wants match practice because he got knocked out of Rome so early. Makes total sense to me.
Its a tune-up tournament for him. As long as he does not get injured or exhausted, then its a good plan.
That is the issue. He missed Canadian Masters and Shanghai Masters last year citing exhaustion after playing two weeks of tennis at Wimbledon and US Open respectively. Now he is playing 3 weeks of tennis (with potentially 4 matches in 7 days) with only 3 weeks of rest before Wimbledon. It is a big gamble that he will find form in this tournament and not over exert himself given the proximity between FO and Wimbledon.
True its not an ideal situation. The GOAT is in an unusual situation-- coachless and without a finals win yet in 2024. Him playing at an ATP 250 before RG speaks a lot about his lack of confidence at this point.

Needs more than just one tournament but it's a start.
I think that Joker is in great need of confidence and form* -- not just physical form, but also mental sharpness.
He's not played much this year, partially because of his choice and the other aspect is that he's been eliminated in earlier rounds. Aside from the GS AO where he placed in the semis, he's not been playing well all year.
If he doesn't change things around and place high at RG or at the Olympics, expect an announcement or his retirement by year's end.
He's a HUGE competitor who's used to winning results and will not continue on this losing path for much long.
I believe it's to his advantage to play this ATP 250 event, heading into Bigger ones.
Smart move -he prob wants to test hos movement. I doubt he will even care about winning many matches. If he can win a round or 2 that will be a decent lead up!
Roland Garros starts 2 days after Geneva. So yes, I don't he is there trying to win a 250 title.

@sohailhines that’s when qualifying for RG starts not MD draw RG always starts Sunday and has R1 over 3 days and Geneva finishes on Saturday

Excellent call for Novak. RG '24 is a BIG opportunity for him with Alcaraz and Sinner ailing, and former clay court threats like Rune and Stefanos not living up to past promise. Nadal playing on one foot. Etc ... Could be an easy major for him to pick up

What does wildcard for Djokovic mean? He is world no.1 so he is gonna participate while should it be Rafael Nadal who receives a wildcard cuz he was injured for a very long time
@wimzswimz9843 what it means his he decide last min Geneva entry list for tournament was 6 weeks ago any 250/500 tournament if u don’t sign up and then want to play u will be a wildcard very simple u can be WC or LC which means late entry line Adrian was in Lyon
@wimzswimz9843 Rafa doesn’t need wildcard since he is using PR since he was out 12 months so he gets 12 PR entry until he runs out so he’s 5 used after RG so he have enough for probably this whole year and probably AO 2025 if he plays I think

@@gabyhalim3417 you're spot on with the last part. It's exactly due to the unplanned early exits of the tournaments he did enter that he needs Geneva. He failed to go deep into the rounds and therefore didn't get the match play needed to be have a real shot at winning the main event. There's always the chance of injury at any of the warm up tournaments but players know that they need to play in order to accumulate both points and experience in order to contend for the GS event.
I do not like this at all. He should not be playing tournament so close to RG. Better to train and rest well for Paris, and simply accept the fact he is lacking matches. I do not like this for Novak. He would demolish them all on RG without this tournament.

@@ganeshasr141 I disagree. For slam most important things are good physical and mental state. Novak should not go into battles so close to RG. I would like much more if he went to Paris early and start to train hard and get used to conditions. Early rounds should be enough confidence booster for him. I hope I am wrong and that all will end up well for him in RG. Go Novak!
