Why do these industrial videos always have such epic dramatic music? It's like there's a contest to see who's music can least match what's actually going on:)
I question the purpose and safety of cleaning subsea chains in this manner. If the overall concern instigating the cleaning is one of gradual decay, caused by the saline environment, wouldn't a pressure washer risk destroying a severely weakened link in the chain? If something like this is deployed in real life, how often should a customer expect catastrophic chain breakages _during_ the cleaning process? In reality, does the buildup on these chains actually cause accelerated decay, or does it actually inhibit decay and protect the chain?
Although under tension, most of the time the chains are not exactly straight but slightly curved. However, with a typical length of say, 2 kilometers, the curvature over the length of the cleaning tool is hardly noticable.
I think this tool would be perfect if it weren’t for requiring the ROV. Also, the video is good and all but how does the tool spiral with the chain links like in the real world?
Why does it need a ROV? Why does it need a cable when it has the chain itself? Why not attach it to the chain above water and then let it climb down the chain and then climb back up?
The next random suggested video is a masonry video about brick walls, and the old way to build them versus the newer way. I won't watch it, because I know I'll start to question my life, and what I'm doing with it. It's best to stop before things get out of hand. If I'm here at 3:45AM, then I think it's time to stop.
Not bad but could be better. Get rid of the winch hook's and use a Toothed wheel with teeth distanced around to centre in the chain links then place the device at the top of the chain and let it work its way down till it gets to the bottom then use a floatation device to let it float back to the surface. This would eliminate the need of the ROV
doesn't explain how long that cable is--won't the ROV have to move the cable hook up the chain after the cleaner gets to the end of the cable? so would the cleaner slide back down the chain while the cable is being re-positioned? what holds the cleaner in place while moving the cable up the chain?
Just some of its many design flaws, it requiring an rov to move and handle it under the sea, why not attach at the surface!! clamp it on let it slide down the chain and clean it, have it on a winch haul it back up when it hits bottom! meh
Can't they just clean the chain as its pulled up. I feel like they could come up with a much easier way by having something attached to the ship to clean it as its pulled.
2) because plants need light to grow and the light can only penetrate so far 4) to reduce drag from currents -> increase stability of whatever it's chained to
OK at least 1 question maybe 2 why not hook at surface and run to bottom then unhook and float to surface or run back up chain seems like more work to hook under water
Why not use a 4-6 toothed sprocket inside to prowl the length of the chain, you could start lower and work up the entire chain with the same equiptment, and it's about the same weight seeing as you need the cable motor to run the sprocket, unless a sprocket could run off a smaller motor, long fingers on a possibly 10-15 degree side motion sprocket could use the chain for locomotion with the sideways tolerance for just incase it hits top dead center of a link it'll bounce off the side and then when it's on the side, still trying to move, the path of least resistance is the center of the chain. Even better with two sprockets on one gear train, possibly with a differential and center bearing where the cleaning head could twist with the chain ahead and the drive could twist with its own direction for real life twists, the sprockets would also help align the cleaner as it would always twist with the chain itself because it uses the holes to move
It's 3:35AM...why am I here? This is almost as confusing as the time I went from gaming videos, to chemistry videos, to a video on how to properly cut a wheel of an expensive variety of parmesan cheese by hand.
I fell asleep half way through the music, woke up again and the clamp is already off the chain, and the chain still look as creepy as it ever was........
Why do you need to clean them. ❓that stuff will all fall off when it’s winched up. The chain probably costs less than this tool. Hook it on at top out of the water and let gravity take it down. No rov needed. Winch it back up when done. Drop it down a few inches a minute. Idea 2, attach it at top and use it when bringing up the chain. Clean as you go.
it in not designed for ‘ocean ships’ it is designed for offshore installations that are anchored in deep water, upto 2500m, for anything upto 40 years! Ocean going ships only anchor for days, and heave the anchor up and clean it!
Man made things underwater. now that is scary. never go swimming at a big harbor or close to a big buoy. I did that once. it might be the last thing you’ll ever do.
Adam Kalman i liked your response to this sleepy fuk!! Space X is defiantly real, all of it with out a doubt.. Some people say its CGI...how stupid are they huh??
I have never seen a client worry about sea growth on their chains before, which I suspect is the reason this is only an animation, you have to find clients that would pay to hire this, which is a big ask for something none essential.
The website is down... I guess the prototype didn’t make it

when the chain cleaner enters the water, I am transported to an aquatic world of wonder and mystery

david esktorp great, now i can't sleep...... have to research this one and get to the bottom of this
There are composers who specialize in Industrial Dramatic Music Scores.
Never have i been emotional for a chain before.
lol
Dayday Ramos lol
Pure genius!!! Put a vid on youtube of an idea about a possible invention and let the people in the comments of vid work out the bugs!!
What about the rare and endangered "Chain Mollusk"? We'll only miss them when they are gone, sadly...

This video was off the chain y’all
What purpose does the chain even serve? To anchor the beach to the sea floor?
Lord Feueranzunder lmao
Probably oil rig chains that hold them in place.
To hold offshore filling buoys so tankers can fill up.
MPSecare - 😂
Lord Feueranzunder lul so he says a couple bad things and you throw all you’ve got at him like wtf
can't wait to get mine
Absolutely amazing video, thank you. My only question is this, are the chains always straight, like that?
Although under tension, most of the time the chains are not exactly straight but slightly curved. However, with a typical length of say, 2 kilometers, the curvature over the length of the cleaning tool is hardly noticable.
CGI
4:44 but WAIT the chain is not finished clean
Great piece of equipment, is this out now?
I think this tool would be perfect if it weren’t for requiring the ROV. Also, the video is good and all but how does the tool spiral with the chain links like in the real world?
JAlexL00 I assume it would based in how it holds itself onto the chain
Lazy robots always quittin halfway through the job. Now my mysterious sea chain will never get clean...
Possibly the most satisfying video i have ever watched.
is it can be used for submarine pipelines ?
Why does it need a ROV? Why does it need a cable when it has the chain itself? Why not attach it to the chain above water and then let it climb down the chain and then climb back up?

wilkoslavakia I like your thinking
You might need different sized toothed wheels to compensate for different sizes of chain though.
Ok... this music is ridiculous.
Lukeaduke510 no ,it's way better than the video.
what economic benefit comes from de fouling a anchor chain please explain to an ignorant like myself
Dear Team
Can you tell subject tool can clean the mooring chain which is partially burried.
doesn't explain how long that cable is--won't the ROV have to move the cable hook up the chain after the cleaner gets to the end of the cable? so would the cleaner slide back down the chain while the cable is being re-positioned? what holds the cleaner in place while moving the cable up the chain?

TheRedPanda that chain isn't pulled up. Thats why they need to clean it.
A chain that big isn’t for a ship to be pulling up and down, it wouldn’t get to bad if it was. These are probably more for huge oil rigs
These are permanent mooring chains for offshore rigs. They are not pulled up until the rig is moved, and they can stay in place for years.
Crappy job. They didn't even finish cleaning the chain.
its a joke ffs
ffs this is not real
they're ladies of the evening ffs
Dr. Zoo your a fucking savage
Tie prisoner to anchor chain, in vhain locker. ‘If you want out, start cleaning chain’. Next port, deploy anchor. Rinse, and repeat

OK at least 1 question maybe 2 why not hook at surface and run to bottom then unhook and float to surface or run back up chain seems like more work to hook under water
Moorings are pretty much support beams under water you pull those in you in trouble
the website doesn't work, can you give the link?
And who cleans The chains of The chaincleaner
What's the cleaning rate?
2’ per day bas d on this video
Why do they even have these chains there?
Crazyhusky787 Gaming channel to moor large ships at or near oil rigs and such.
why do you need to clean the chains ?
Crazy... This video no comment since 2013 and 2 within 15 minutes lol... must of been watching RC world ???
james mole to keep the corrosion in check
The chains are quite an expense. Therefore, regular cleaning helps to prevent harmful deposits from forming and ruining the chain.
The buildup on the chain is a natural protection. Excessive cleaning will destroy the chain faster.
I agree with you, David.

4:26 work time is over, time to go and have a beer with other robots
Why not just put it on at the top of the chain and work down?
This looks way more complicated than it should be to slide down a chain and power wash it.
OK, come with a better solution.
It makes a cute little noise felt like I was watching a Disney movie
Firstly I have no idea why I am here, secondly wouldn't it be better to winch at the top, and let gravity do the rest?
Ben Smith yes. I thought the same thing.
Yummy
Pikapetey Animations of course I see fuckin pikapetey watching shit like this.

Got emotional by the music
Someone answer why, why the chain, why clean it, why why why
Would like to have seen the real one in action instead of a computer simulation.
There is ecosystems on that chain
lego pieces on the side?
doesn't work in real life, that's why it's all done in CGI.
Video says 'prototype' - probably to support the 'patent pending' paperwork and presales process..
for some reason that chain scares me
How did I get from writing an essay to here?

errrm... ok... but why?
Well the good thing is, the lame music here, can't be heard while doing it for real.
1. There is no need
2.it causes water pollution
3.expensive
4.destroying habitats
5.cant see it working tbh
Is that actual footage or animation?
Mark Ryan animation
Definitely animation
Computer simulation has finally reached levels when it's undistinguishable from reality
